Thanks Nicki ... love all the ideas! When I'm using original packaging, I will use packing tape down both sides to keep it from splitting - I also trim off the top of the bag, to the paper & that way, I don't have to keep opening the bottom of the bag!

That’s a great idea. Opening the bottom of the bag can be annoying for sure. 😊

Thank you so much! I need to organize my craft area and it seems overwhelming. I have things all over (although limited to a 7’ x 5’ space). It’s the stamps/dies/embossing sets that are driving me crazy. I know I need to take EVERYTHING out and figure out what goes with what, but again, it makes my head hurt. This might be just what I need to get started.

I'm already doing many of the same things that you demonstrated in this great video. I too got really tired of the high cost of magnetic sheets. I've pretty much dispensed with them, in favor of stashing my really tiny dies into small ziplock plastic baggies (3 1/2" x 2"), then back into the original packaging. Tim Holtz/Sizzix make his Colorize die sets which might contain 20+ dies, many of them really small. I stash whatever dies will fit into the tiny plastic baggie and figure that the dies that won't fit into the tiny baggie are large enough for me to find, should they escape from the original packaging. (That's my logic anyway, and I'm sticking to it! LOL) BTW, I'm sooooo jealous that you have an actual ROOM for crafting. Thanks for the video!

Great tips. I take off all my original packaging, but if you like to store that way - remember scotch tape is your friend. I used to reinforce the sides with scotch tape to keep it from splitting.

Nicki - I'm an organization freak and you just put my system to shame!! haha! Thank you so much for this. I LOVED it! And yep - the cost of magnetic sheets has killed me! Oh, and I store my stencils in a notebook (unless they are part of a set - then I store them with the die/stamps).

Hi Nicky. I use the same storage system including the Marietta magnets. I am a former store owner and addicted papercrafter so multiply the products you showed by 10 or 20 for my stash. I have several large cabinets with drawers built specifically to fit the Avery Elle pouches. I keep unrelated stencils in a binder and embossing folders by company. Thx for a great video. FYI: Jennifer McGuire has a video about the Brother labeler that shows how to eliminate that gap between labels. I do my labels on the computer because it’s faster and cheaper. Thx again.

I really like the folders for complete sets Nicki. I wish it was in my budget. The rest we do the same only I don’t have them divided into companies because I don’t have as much for supplies. It’s not my job. great minds think alike! lol! If you want to save a little money, last I checked which was long ago, Amazons checkout store pockets were cheaper then Avery and they are excellent quality with the flap.

Hey Nicki when the adhesive starts to not be as sticky just add some runner tape on it. Works fine, I do the same if the die set is just a few larger dies I just leave in the sticky backing and have even just make it for some dies that I got at yard sales that didn't have any.

thank you Nicki! I recently started following you and was happy to see this video. I am a long time crafter and after 30+ years, I have decided to downsize my items as most have not been used in years. I am also going through my stamps, folders etc and looking for an easier way to organize them. This video was so helpful. I do have one question. Do you have a system that keeps record of everything you have for stamps, folders and dies? Or when you create, do you just rummage through your bins looking for what you needed?
@NickiHeartsCards
@NickiHeartsCards 17 сағат бұрын
I do not use a database. I usually rummage through bins for ideas. I work much better visualizing and coming up with ideas when I go through a bin. I generally know where everything is but if trying to decide on a specific floral or sentiment, I flip through the bins. Try to keep my bins to only what I’m actually using. Everything else is donated.

I use a similar system, but I am wondering how you know/remember what you have. If you want a balloon die, how do you know where to find one without going through all the envelopes.
@NickiHeartsCards
@NickiHeartsCards Күн бұрын
Hey! I may be different than others on this because I use almost every single item that comes into my craft room before putting it away and I think that helps. I also purge regularly so that I’m keeping things I really love. So right now, I could tell you exactly where balloon stamps etc are. I do tend to keep my florals together since those can kind of run together. I keep each company together organized by size right now. I know lots of people have databases of their supplies but I have felt like that is a lot of work. I also find it inspiring looking through my stamps so don’t mind searching a bit if looking for something specific.

Well looks nice but if you use the ikea shelf inserts and clear storage bins, then keep your stamps/dies lengthwise you can store twice as much. Much more efficient. I probably have as much or more stored in a 8 space Kallax and all very visible and easily accessible

Hello All! I somewhat use this same method. But what I struggle with is, because I have a gazillion stamps/dies, etc., I find that I have a hartd time finding the one I want. Or, sometimes my sister will come over to play and she will ask me for any butterfly stamps. Well, I'm sure I have a lot, but where exactly. All of this to say, do any of you store by subject matter instead of Company who made it? And if so, does it seem to work better for you. I'm just not sure if I should mix different companies together??? And don't even mention using a computer storage app...I'm way too deep and too old to basically start over! ;). Thank you all and especially Nicki for posting this video.

Hi! Thanks for watching today. I store everything by company for a couple reasons - 1. Generally, for my work as a card maker, I need to keep a card to one company. 2. Companies tend to have products that are made to work together. Sometimes, I mix and match the stamps from different places like sentiments but not often. I don’t use any type of database because to me, it’s too much work for what I am going to get out of it. I think that using a color code system like Altenew’s on your labels may help you find sets. You could even make your own key to your color selections. I also make sure to purge things I don’t use so that I have less to keep up with.

Hi, I am actually a hobby watercolour painter who loves stamps and die cuts. I add die cuts and stamps to paintings to make cards for my family and friends. I store my stamps and dies by category. I have 4 photo storage containers that each have 10 or more individual plastic cases inside. I cut a card to fit the container and stamp any new stamps I add onto this sheet so that I can see it through the transparent cases. I label each individual box. ( e.g Christmas, floral, grunge, sentiments ) For my dies I use a similar system. I cut each new die out of card and then glue them in a book that I have labeled to match. It is easy then to flip through the book to find the die that might add texture to my card. For the stacking dies that I have added magnet strips to the inside of my cupboard door and attached the sets. They are easy to access and replace. Hope that gives you another possibility. 😊

I use everything when it comes in and purge things I don’t enjoy. I generally remember which company has a certain set and keep groupings together of florals, etc together in the bins. I know lots of people make a database like airtable but that has not worked for me. The best thing for my creativity is to flip through a bin for ideas. Or to think, I want a large floral- well in my room all my large florals are from Altenew, so I just go to that bin and check. Hope that is helpful and I know that may not work for everyone.

Nicki those white bins you keep your SS in, do they stack ontop of each other? Have you ever tried? I have the original silver wire mesh baskets that I bought over 25 years ago when I started. And I can stand up in pockets the regular size SS and lay the 6x8 on the side and stack my bins 2 high or as high as space allows. But they don’t make them anymore and I haven’t found a stacking alternative yet for if I ever run out of them and I only have 1 left. But I doubt I’ll buy much more. I don’t even stamp much because I like die cutting so much. But I’d like to know just in case. My room I like to keep in black and white so they’d be great! Thank you!

I used to have my stamps organized by companies but do not remember what sentiments I had. So about a year or so I changed and organize by subject/theme. The issue I have s that sometimes there’s multiple different themes in one set. I then miss some. Those are presently listed as misc sentiments. I used to take a picture of all my sets but i have over a 100 and stopped around 65. I don’t want to electronically list them. Any suggestions on a different way to store OR better way to remember??

You can use Goo Gone or UnDu remove the stickiness from the back of dies rather than using powder to reduce sticky.
