Ever since I stumbled upon this divine composition by accident, I have just fallen in love with it n more so, with the lovely, soft voice of Uttara. I just cant get enough of it n listen to it at least 4-5 times a day. Like many have said here, when Uttara sings 'amma akhilandeshwari' something happens in my heart...specially something is there in that 'ammaaa' .. cant explain what it is !! I recently presented the voice of Uthara to my best friend, a christian Sister : She was very moved, though she is a really aware audience. She told me, i would like to see her hands while singing, because i can imagine them moving and dancing. I answered her that, in a certain way, Uthara sings both with voice and hands, as a second language, like blind people excel to express the most precise details with hands movement ... Music is accompany and described by these hands movement, along with every modulations ... From France .

namastE, The research of David MacNeill of Chicago University (books -- Gesture and Thought) has shown that two blind people use gestures while conversing, which suggests that there is a deep connection between WORD and GESTURE. The blind talkers do not see each others' gesture, but they still use them. In India WORD is of two types -- VaRNAtmikaa (syllabic, that is spoken) and NADAtmikA (musical note based, that is sung). So WORD encompasses all communication -- both verbal and musical. Perhaps this explains the hand movements. I tend to think that the communication of the so-called primitive people was simultaneously singing, dance, thought and emotion. Maybe I am wrong, but that is what where I am at now.

It's not for blind people actually. In music traditions, if you choose a Raagam and Taalam to sing a song, you have to maintain the upswing and downsing in the song as per the permissible limits of those thaalams and Raagams you select to sing for a song.. so if you closely watch a traditional music singer, their hand movements are the way to calculate the tempo of the song for them selves while singing in order to avoid High pitch in a place where to sing in low pitch and vice versa.. it's the basic of Carnatic music to maintain singing with in the parameters of that selected Raagam and Taalam...
