Omg i love this book, actually i have a vintage german copy, i used to look at the pictures and tell the stories that way to my little sister as i didnt have a clue what it said, i also did the same for my own kids, i also read them the original grimm fairy tales aswell 🤣🤣, ive never actually heard what the story is in English so you just made my day lol. I didnt even know you could get a English copy !! Im going to have to find a copy now to add to my libary 😃

I remember this book! We had a German copy, so I could only follow along using the pictures. There is also a story about a child who sucked her thumbs until a guy with giant scissors cut them off. Also, a story about some children who make fun of a dark-skinned man. By the end of the story the children end up being dipped in ink, so they are completely black, darker than his skin. The thumb warning is creepy, but the warning about matches and tormenting someone for looking different are good messages, if written in a strong manner.

Is this from the same book that has "Little Suck-A-Thumb?" It's a poem where a girl keeps sucking her thumb, and a guy comes in with big scissors and cuts them off. There's also supposed to be a story in it where a crybaby cries so much that her eyes fall out.

Yes, this is the same book. However, in the German edition it is a boy (Konrad I think was his name) who sucks his thumb, but otherwise your story is accurate. I don't recall the one about crying your eyes out though.

@jakobmaximilianriedl1013 I've only ever seen the Suck-A-Thumb story as an example in a general "creepy stuff" book a friend had. It was in English, and the kid's name in it was, indeed, Conrad. (or maybe Konrad) Anyway... THAT book mentioned there were others such as the crybaby story.

That was fantasicsllly awful! 😳 I had a book wwhen i was young that was about a boy who wouldn't use his knife to push his vegetables onto his fork. He used his fingers instead. Long story short, he startsd growing vegetable plants out of his finger nails like some weird Edward Vegetablehands.
