Thanks for the great video. Simple question please: does the app give you step count? I see a lot of valuable data but don't see steps.
@callummoves4 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks :) no, the app itself doesn't give you step count but transmits this data to the GPS watch that you will connect it to (Garmin, Coros, Apple Watch etc, will provide this for you during the run) so this will be reflected in the activity recorded within the watches output. I hope this helps and thanks again for watching!

@@callummoves Thanks for your reply. So, will I actually see "steps" in the Garmin app or do steps need to be calculated manually? The reason this is important to me is that I can get discounts on my health insurance based on step activity but I would need that to be reflected in the Garmin app as it uploads to my insurance company (Humana Go365). Further complicating things is that I use a walking pad with a standing desk throughout the day. As a result, my Apple Watch is almost always stationary on the desk (no arm swing) and will not track steps. This led me to try to find a "foot pod" based system to get a step count. Stryd seems to be perhaps the only bluetooth foot pod still available to purchase.

@@callummoves Thanks. I am trying to get the step count into the Garmin ecosystem. I get discounts on my health insurance (Humana Go365) if I log step activity. The Garmin uploads to Humana. Here's the main issue: I have a standing desk with a walking pad underneath. As a result, my arms don't swing and therefore my Apple Watch won't record steps. This led me to try to find a bluetooth foot pod that would record step count. Stryd seems to be the only one left on the market. If actual step count shows up in Garmin, I'm golden but if I have to derive steps from distance and stride length, then it won't work for me.

Stryd works perfectly on treadmills and provides me with step data to my Coros app (and had done the same with my Garmin previously). So I’d suggest starting an indoor run (even if you’re just walking) on your Garmin whilst the Stryd is connected and you’ll get the steps through that way. I hope this helps!

Forgot to mention: Excellent wrong distance when changing shoes. You will need a calibration factor for every shoe

Would love to understand the %age difference you're seeing from shoe to shoe so I can make adjustments myself!

Question: does Stryd improve your running speed? I mean, if I use the Stryd's plans to training, will I get better over the time? My view about it is kind of that Stryd adapts to you, not making you running faster, only making you a "power based better runner".
@callummoves3 ай бұрын
From personal experience, yes. My times have improved across various distances. Yes, the app does adjust based on your performance, but if you follow the plans and hit the power targets then (again from personal experience) you will get faster. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

watches can estimate power too these days. I'm guessing stryd has a simpler (more robust) algorithm than one coming from a swinging wrist. But Garmin wrist based power is useful too, mich better that pace or hr for hill workouts or intervals
@callummoves4 ай бұрын
Yes, good point. I did run with my Garmin watch historically with no Stryd and comparing it to similar runs using it the power from the watch is approximately 10-15% off the Stryd power readings. Thanks for your comment and for watching! I hope you found it useful :)

@@callummoves Thanks for your insights, Cal. #DesFit and #ChaseTheSummit have done splendid videos comparing Stryd power recordings to those of Apple Watch, Garmin, Coros, and Suunto. They werar all devices for variable speed runs and then map the power from each device on an overlay The recordings are *startlingly* close! They are not, in their testing, even 2-3% off...and when they are "off", who is to say the Stryd was the accurate device. Stryd has issues with different shoes creating different readings; the wrist-based power devices do not. I personally train with power from either my Coros watch or my Apple watch, and the data they provide without a subscription is immense (ground contact time, stride length, vertical oscillation, to mention a few; and yes, cadence). I personally think the days of Styrd are numbered as the ubiquitous exercise watches all now have accurate power. The only question is whether power will catch on to the general public for training. Appreciate your sharing your experience.

Connectivity is bad, it takes minutes into every single run till the wattage actually shows - drives me nuts every time.

Interesting! Not something I've experienced - may be worth reaching out to Stryd as it sounds like you'll be due a warranty replacement? Thanks for watching :)

I wonder know which one is enough for Marathon training ,single or Duo?it seems duo is cheaper ,and I see on it's website ,user with stryd can get 20% off code this month

I think that single is sufficient from my experience. Thanks for watching! :)

Yes, they don’t run the pod on promotions much. Sorry about that!

It’s the worst device I‘ve ever bought. Inaccurate like hell when changing shoes.

Sorry to hear that you’ve had a bad experience with your Stryd! Interested to hear about how big the difference is between shoes - clearly need to check that too!

On the contrary, I've found it to be a solid metric for racing. I've totally moved from hr and pace to power for racing and it's given me fantastic results. You may have to retest for different shoes but in my opinion it's worth the investment.

Have you come across any information anywhere with an overview of stryd problems? Perhaps someone has already made a video on this topic or written an article? I'm really interested in this as I'm now faced with the choice of whether to give my $$$ for this box. I hope the author of the channel won't mind if you share links to critical opinions about stryd. Criticism helps the product to develop. :)

@@exo-tteam3832They are blocking any negative topics in their forums. In addition to that they are blocking users. If you want accuracy when running do not trust Stryd for pace and distance.
