Thrown in all the dlc and even while on sale, can still be 40 or more if you care about having all the content for what is a rather old game. Which can be a big turn off to some folk and turn them away from giving a game a try. Just due to still costing an arm and leg years later. Which is why certain indie titles might be more appealing. No. That's a horrible idea. One benefit behind indie games is how accesible they are compared to AAA games. Not only do they require fewer resources, but also cost less. Like 10-20 dollars. By making them 60 to 70$, you will take away such accessibility to the people, and it will also leave incredibly high expectations and standards to a genre of games that isn't known for reaching such standarda. Like, imagine if you find a 2d pixel art game that is good enough. Now make it cost 70$. The game is good, yes. But not 70$ good. In fact, by making them 70$, you are also showing a greedy side to, again, a genre that isn't known to that. Which will harm more indie games, as they will have a terrible reputation. Don't get it twisted; i'm not defending AAA games. In fact, i do agree with your point of *(SOME)* AAA games costing 30$. But if i see a 70$, i may as well expect a 70$ masterpiece. Indie games are great. Some are masterpieces. But most of them are not 70$ masterpieces. No. In fact, no videogame should cost 70 to begin with! 60$ was already too much!!

Having a standard price is a good marketing strategy, but ultimately, if you increase the prices too much, you will only cater to rich gamers. Steam's sales strike a great balance. Those who want to play the game right away will buy it full price. Those who kedp an eye on it (thus wanting it) and wait will get a serious discount, and those who buy at launch, missing out on most reviews, will usually get it at a launch discount.

They should stop using inflation as an excuse, especially when your customers aren't getting cost of living pay increases each year to keep up with inflation. If you made $40,000 a year in 2006, you were making more than if you make $50,000 today. So a game costing $60 back then was still cheaper than a $70 game is for people today. That's not even factoring in how many games are sold with content cut for day 1 DLC or future expansions, all the microtransactions, or the insane amount of $100 - $200 launch editions with bonuses... Also, that doesn't factor in that companies make WAY more from digital games today than the predominantly physical games they sold nearly 20 years ago.

You know the worst part about this for me? In the UK, we used to have actual parity with the US costs when adjusted for our currency. We paid £40 when you guys paid $50, £50 when you guys paid $60, and it all roughly evened out. For some reason, and its really crazy to me that nobody talks about this, we've now been put at the exact same number despite the difference in our currencies. So we paid the equivalent of the price the US customer had, and then you guys got a $10 increase to $70. Okay then. Well, publishers decided they could get away with new games being the same number - £70 over here, resulting in us now paying around $92 equivalent at the time of writing, when less than 5 years ago we were paying around $60. Doesn't help that take-home pay here is lower than it's ever been. It's an absolute disgrace.

I still dont think we should be paying the same price but i qlso just dont think we can talk about this without talking about the fact the pound is no where near as strong of a currency as it used to be.

In my honest opinion, Rockstar Games is a perfect example of the way Triple A games should be. Master crafted, lots of time to tend to, constantly improving, and really trying to put the money where their mouth is. Ubislop or Ubisoft is a perfect example of what Triple A games shouldn't be. Produced in short time, sloppy craftsmanship, putting overkill amounts of money into the wrong things, improving barely anything or the wrong things, and not really giving 100% into the project, more like 50% or less. See, the difference now vs before (at least regarding AA and AAA games) was that in order for a game to be successful, it had to be good and complete. If you published a blatantly unfinished game, there was no way to patch it and the game would not sell well. Nowadays, publishers can release blatantly unfinished dumpster fires of games under the guise that “it’s a live service game and it’ll get better” which has happened so often to the point where modern gamers just accept it. Releasing a game for $70 that is missing features that need to be added back in over the course of several months is unacceptable and the game is not deserving of that price. This is probably why we’re seeing a rise in indie titles recently which often have more polish for a cheaper price

The most im willing to pay on a game thats less than a year old is $40, after that even less. Never pay full price, always wait for a sale. $60 or more is not worth it for a piece of entertainment.

always sail the high seas for every single or multiplayer game, see if you will love it, if yes then buy it, ive saved myself at least 1k after installing 60€ games and realizing how much i hate em after 30-60mins. Ive played cracked palworld also which was working on their official servers, i loved it, i bought it. These psychos have gone crazy, who the f would pay 60+€ for a singleplayer game that just launched let alone 2,4,6 years old, not me. What we should do as humans is remove all games from the cart and wishlist and fvck up their metrics, when they see noone is interested theyll drop prices like crazy.

@@mvstermlndwhere do you find these games if I may ask?
@nordvestgaming12384 күн бұрын
@@mvstermlnd At least for single player games they really need to bring back demos as a mainstream thing. There have been multiple times where I found a game I wasn't entirely sold on immediately just based off reviews and marketing material, but it had a demo that I played and more often than not ended up going back and buying the full game.

$60 or more seems reasonable for a well designed game that gives you many hours of entertainment.
@spugelo3593 күн бұрын
@@mvstermlnd Because some games are actually worth it and some gamers are actually able to tell a good game without playing it, unlike some other people that just pick every game that looks mildly interesting. My time and money is worth more than that.

4:08 okay but why is zelda totk 70$, it's still on the same hardware as botw, which was 60$ and shares alot of the assets botw used

@Daft0Cean96819 сағат бұрын
yea iwl I usually defend Nintendo not cutting prices because of the fact that the games usually come out very polished and tend to be great, but it was really obvious that they just wanted to make more money off of totk. Do I think it's worth 70? yes definitely, but as you said Botw was 60, no real reason to bump up the price imo
@ThisIsNotMyRealSelf4 күн бұрын
If your game is gonna cost $60, or heavens forbid, even MORE, then it better put me in a constant state of euphoria the entire time I'm playing. Otherwise, it's NOT worth the price tag.

TOTK costing $70 due to it's huge playtime. The next Smash is worth $70 if it has at least 50 characters, and a single player mode. The next big Zelda, if it's at least the size of BOTW, $70 is fine. GTA 6 can cost $70 if there's plenty of content. No other game should cost $70
@SomeCowguy4 күн бұрын
What is a huge playtime? Will i hit 300 hours like on terraria, which costs 1/10th of that?
@RetroCheats4 күн бұрын
@SomeCowguy 80 hours, and game needs cutscenes, good story, good visuals. I'd happily pay $70 for these games, if I like the game. I personally don't even want to pay $10 for a game I might like, and rather save the money for a game I do like.
@SomeCowguy4 күн бұрын
@RetroCheats 80 sounds low for $70.
@RetroCheats4 күн бұрын
@SomeCowguy I meant 80 casual playthrough, not completist time. TOTK was too long in my oppinion... I want the next game to be just a bit longer than BOTW, and I'd gladly pay $70
@OneRandomVictory3 күн бұрын
@SomeCowguyAnd yet that game could never get away with charging $60+. At the end of the day, there are a lot of people that will not buy a full priced game unless it has high production value. And no high production value game is gonna be launched at sub $30.

The thing is, I am willing to fork out 70-80€ for a game and heck, sometimes even 30-40€ for a DLC if it's actually jam packed with content and I don't feel like the Developers behind it want to rip me off. Baldurs Gate 3, Phantom Liberty, Red Dead Redemption 2, Shadow of the Erdtree ... I would have even given them more than asked, for these probably once in a decade type of games and expensions The problem is, others would start to see the willingness of people to purchase products at these prices and than they'd make their next Shit of Duty or Fifa "We didn't change anything 2025" cost as much aswell. Also, I think for many a large part of the "development" budget is spent on marketing

If I said a restaurant meal costs a lot because it's cooked by a talented, passionate chef using fresh ingredients and will taste absolutely delicious... That same argument does not apply to a crappy McDonalds meal that costs the same amount. Yet with videogames, a game of the year winning title can easily cost the same, if not less, than a title nowhere near worth your time. Best thing I ever did with gaming was get into classic and retro titles. I can walk out of a pre-owned games shop with a pile of 10+ different videogame titles and it costs me less than half what a more recent game would.

I wish people would stop preordering and actually wait for sales. I grew up with video games booming in the 2000's and 2010's, and I still wouldn't pay 70$ for _any_ game. I'm not even paying 50$ for big budget games, because I don't trust the companies making them. The only games I'd pay full price for, are indie games, because I know they're more likely to price it at what they actually think is worth, and they're not raising prices to overpay their greedy CEOs because they don't really have them. Games used to be better quality, but now they're just more expensive... It's a shame that the younger generation will never understand what they're missing.

Games were not better quality in the past. You just have nostalgia goggles. I have played many old games and most of their gameplay did not age well at all. It always depends on the game some suck and some are amazing you just forgot all the bad ones.

I'm from Moldova which is not a rich country, while I have some livable money my rating is that AAA games deserve maximum of 30$, even 40$ for Skyrim was and still overpriced, that's why I still don't buy the Starfield because it costs 42.50$ in my country. If it costed less I'd buy it for let's say 18-23$. Then B class games like "War Hospital" or "Frostpunk 2" cost around 17-25$. And indie games are othen just 12-16$. Also as a great example I can point the "Forever Winter" for 14.50$ and "GTFO" for 14$ was perfect price for the experience I've got. For me it's too much for the scale of the game, the price does not represent a quality and how much fun you get out of it, just the scale of the game. Vampire Survivor costed me 3.50$ and is one of my most beloved and greatest games ever. Also I got DeusEx: Human Revolution for like 1.52$ and game surprised me, I honestly felt for the first time that I robbed the devs because I liked the game so much It worthed more money than I paid. So IMO 30$ is a musthave for 3A games. Examples like Baldur's Gate 3 and Cyberpunk2077 are perfect for their prices(I'm not here to rant about how much modern games are undercooked on the release). Also some indie devs noticed when they downed their price for their game in SA to 5$ their sales skyrocketed and they got very good money for them, just because they honestly put the price for their game it deserves people started ro buy it and not leaving it somewhere in wishlists. In the end my perfect price lists for games based on theirs scale is next. (BIG GAMES) AAAAA games cap 30$ (MID GAMES) 12 to 18$ (SMALL GAMES AKA INDIE) Free to 9$, best average for me is 6.5, it's honest price which majority can allow for not regret the spent money. Also DLC's are big deal, if they are so good as DLC 's for Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk their maximum price should be 15. But if it's some bullshit as always with Paradox games honestly it should be 7-10 at max! Not the sphere of influence for 22.50$ or Royal Court for 30$.

I got kingdom come for under 10 bucks. There are many great games for cheap. I have only bought 2 games at launch. MFS 2020 and Stalker 2. It is safe to say even at $60 the game has to blow me away to pay that much and anything near $70 has to be game of the year. Or else I will just buy games at a discount or get the game in a creative way
