Black metal without bass is like food without salt. Tasteless ! Excellent selection of songs and bands, that Marduk riff has haunted my childhood, and i am pretty sure B-War is using the legendary BOSS MT-2 metal zone to achieve this tone. Midnattskogens sorte kjerne by Dodheimsgard is a song i would really like to be featured on part 2. Or Pretender to the throne by Necromantia. Ευχαριστουμε Σταθη, δωσε πονο, Γουσταρουμε.

Thanks Timothy! There will sure be a part 2, I'm already working on it when I find the time. I haven't added Ulver in my list to be honest because although I checked their tabs for bass solos etc, I'm not familiar at all with their music. I could learn a solo by ear but I don't know which songs of theirs have one. In the future though I'd like to fully cover some of their songs, they have an amazing atmosphere.

Guitar and drums bring the noise to metal. But for the *heaviness* you need the *bass.* Without a good prominent (or at least audible) bass, metal sounds lacking, the sonic equivalent of a bird with clipped wings or a tiger with no teeth.

@TheGreySpectrum2 жыл бұрын
@@hephaestusofficial I've listened to all their albums and even splits, so if you haven't listened to them a ton and want any recommendation I myself would say 'Microcosmos' (there's a reason I mentioned 'Distant Cries of Cranes', about 6:05 into the track) and 'Blood In Our Wells' are my personal favorites. From 'Blood In Our Wells', 'Furrows of Gods' tends to be pretty highly regarded, and I'd agree with that sentiment. That said, I'll always recommend listening to the full albums. 'Eastern Frontier' is also pretty good good, but it's mostly a cover album. 'Autumn Aurora' was how I initially got into the band, though while it's very thematic and a pleasant listen, I don't know that I'd call it their best by any means. Bird noises are as much a component of that album as any actual instrument. That all said, I'm not sure I'd call any of their albums "bad", I just like some better than others. Don't know if that will help in any capacity, but hey! If I can help someone get into a band I love, then rad. Otherwise, it's no big deal; not everyone loves everything, ya' know? I mean, we're in a pretty niche genre as-is.

Absolutely! In fact I've also avoided De Mysteriis for many years just cause of the elitism surrounding it. "If they don't like it, it must not be good" and due to that I only listened to the Freezing Moon. Now that I got over myself and actually gave the album a proper listen, this song and De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas are my absolute highlights of the album! Also people who complain about the later albums "not being black metal enough", all I can say is that the musicianship of the band is far ahead for them to get it. Not saying that everything is 10/10 but many songs are absolutely great and Attila's vocals are phenomenal.
@blunderless5 ай бұрын
@@hephaestusofficial yeah, i don't think it's as musically monumental on the same scale as Burzum, but Cursed In Eternity, Life Eternal, and Freezing Moon are some of the greatest black metal songs to ever exist imo. they still have some parts that are kind of boring like most of Buried by Time & Dust. agreed on atilla's vocals. without intent to disrupt this online etiquette, to put it simply, the new albums make my balls feel funny, so i can't listen to them. that being said, i like atilla because he's very angular, relaxed, and has nuance, which are all traits that are exceptionally rare for bm vocalists.

I think but I may be wrong, that it's ours, the bass player's fault most likely. Many of us don't take the time to change things up a little either due to lack of knowledge or ideas. Bass is also far easier to start learning than guitar so many people just stick to the basics. That's not wrong by any means, play what you like! But in those rare instances that a unique bass line will find it's way into a song, it'll really elevate it!

I think it's more, or at least was, more of an ideological thing. 2nd wave of Black Metal bands thought that metal was becoming to mainstream, sterile and clean, so they pretty much went the exact opposite way. The channel Punk Rock MBA actually has a great video on this topic. I kinda agree that good ideas tend to get lost in the noise in black metal but on the other hand I think that often that noise is what gives black metal it's atmosphere.
