I wish I could do phone repairs. I have the knowledge and Hardware but my hands are shaking to much for this micro soldering. Thanks for sharing your repairs here!
@ststele4 жыл бұрын
Shaky hands can be dangerous but my hands really aren't very steady. I've learned to time some of the jitters with where I need to be. Before this video, I ate a few twizzlers to take in some extra sugar. That helps me some but I still have some nasty jitters! I should probably drink a half-pot less coffee in the morning. :-) Thanks for commenting.

I stumbled onto this video by chance. I have a master's in EE from 40 years ago. I did a lot of through-hole board design, troubleshooting and repair long ago. Watching you brings it all back and made me smile. I was excited (in the sick sort of way engineers get excited we are secretly proud of) watching you do this. I never learned surface mount and micro soldering. I moved on into Program Managing the development of cellular phone test systems before I ever had to. You made me want to learn how to do what you do. Your intelligence, mad troubleshooting skills, attention to detail and most of all tenacity are what it takes. This looks like such a challenge it makes me think of learning to do it just for fun when I retire. Too bad I could not do it while sitting on a beach drinking margaritas. Here's to you! I subscribed. You have me hooked.

lol you must have British influences because you say you reside in Florida yet pronounce solder (sodder-US) as solder (British). Also you don't sound southern so you probably reside in southern Florida (we don't consider that as Southern) lol [I'm from New Orleans but our accent sounds more like Brooklyn NY]

Have you seen the below process from Apple to remove the encryption password for new/future backups? If you can’t remember the password for your encrypted backup: You can’t restore an encrypted backup without its password. With iOS 11 or later or iPadOS, you can make a new encrypted backup of your device by resetting the password. Here’s what to do: 1) On your device, go to Settings > General > Reset. 2) Tap Reset All Settings and enter your device passcode. 3) Follow the steps to reset your settings. This won't affect your user data or passwords, but it will reset settings like display brightness, Home screen layout, and wallpaper. It also removes your encrypted backup password. 4) Connect your device to the Finder or iTunes again and create a new encrypted backup using the steps above. You won't be able to use previous encrypted backups, but you can use the Finder or iTunes to back up your current data and set a new backup password. If you have a device with iOS 10 or earlier, you can't reset the password. In this case, try the following: If someone else set up your device, ask them for the password. If you don't have an iCloud backup, you can make one.
@ststele4 жыл бұрын
Woah, I did not know about this. I haven't tried yet but I thought to get around the unknown encryption passcode, the phone had to be restored. My whole life is a lie!

STS Telecom Hi - I'm glad you saw my comment and hope it helps. It comes from the below link - towards the bottom of the page. Obviously no use if you were trying to restore a phone from an existing encrypted backup, but it should let you create new, unencrypted backups for your type of scenarios (or create a new encrypted backup with a known password) support.apple.com/en-gb/HT205220 I love your work and videos, wish I could perform the wonders on broken phones that you can.
