I stumbled onto this video by chance. I have a master's in EE from 40 years ago. I did a lot of through-hole board design, troubleshooting and repair long ago. Watching you brings it all back and made me smile. I was excited (in the sick sort of way engineers get excited we are secretly proud of) watching you do this. I never learned surface mount and micro soldering. I moved on into Program Managing the development of cellular phone test systems before I ever had to. You made me want to learn how to do what you do. Your intelligence, mad troubleshooting skills, attention to detail and most of all tenacity are what it takes. This looks like such a challenge it makes me think of learning to do it just for fun when I retire. Too bad I could not do it while sitting on a beach drinking margaritas. Here's to you! I subscribed. You have me hooked.

Shaky hands can be dangerous but my hands really aren't very steady. I've learned to time some of the jitters with where I need to be. Before this video, I ate a few twizzlers to take in some extra sugar. That helps me some but I still have some nasty jitters! I should probably drink a half-pot less coffee in the morning. :-) Thanks for commenting.

Nice work again, Sir! That was a nasty one and you took care of it like a king. Again, I really appreciate watching you learn as you go. And again, I'm not a cell phone repair tech (I've just been in the electronic business for a long time), but I really like to understand what's going on. So, looking at that NFC circuit, the missing resistor was there to supply an internal supply to another pin of that IC (Stockholm). Since it was missing, the IC wasn't working properly. As simple as that.
@ststele4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. If I had encountered this before learning about the issue on iPhone X, my next step would have likely been to try a software update. On the iPhone X, there winds up being visibly damaged pads between the board halves and it's easy to see what's broken. I probably would have never guessed stockholm was causing it without googling symptoms.

Hey Jason thanks for the laughs again. You mentioned IPhone 7 boot looping problems. Have you discovered the repair to get the data from the update disease? ( I’m pretty sure you have) I’ve got a vid ready but not uploaded showing how to get data. Think I should upload it?
@ststele4 жыл бұрын
Yes, when it comes to the issue where it will complete the update but then still hang on Apple after rebooting (with home button click). For that I have been jumpering the reset line on the north audio IC. I learned about pulling it from Jesse Cruz but then seen Jessa jumper that line on one of her videos. I think she tried something else after that but for me, just jumpering the reset pin does the trick. (wire across a single resistor to pull it to ground)

Have you seen the below process from Apple to remove the encryption password for new/future backups? If you can’t remember the password for your encrypted backup: You can’t restore an encrypted backup without its password. With iOS 11 or later or iPadOS, you can make a new encrypted backup of your device by resetting the password. Here’s what to do: 1) On your device, go to Settings > General > Reset. 2) Tap Reset All Settings and enter your device passcode. 3) Follow the steps to reset your settings. This won't affect your user data or passwords, but it will reset settings like display brightness, Home screen layout, and wallpaper. It also removes your encrypted backup password. 4) Connect your device to the Finder or iTunes again and create a new encrypted backup using the steps above. You won't be able to use previous encrypted backups, but you can use the Finder or iTunes to back up your current data and set a new backup password. If you have a device with iOS 10 or earlier, you can't reset the password. In this case, try the following: If someone else set up your device, ask them for the password. If you don't have an iCloud backup, you can make one.
@ststele4 жыл бұрын
Woah, I did not know about this. I haven't tried yet but I thought to get around the unknown encryption passcode, the phone had to be restored. My whole life is a lie!

STS Telecom Hi - I'm glad you saw my comment and hope it helps. It comes from the below link - towards the bottom of the page.
