Hey Jason, as far as I can tell, you initially did count right and it is 14 over for VDD IO. Your only problem in that configuration was the clock line. After moving everything over one, it would have never worked, but I don't *think* there's any damage on your end. After that, when moving over your lines, you moved over ground and clock onto the ip7 data and clock lines. Tbh, I don't blame you on that one, they did a bad job labeling that board. Assuming there's any hope for this thing since it still won't take charging current, that logic eeprom is probably still fine and readable, I'd give it one more shot with all of that in mind
@ststele2 жыл бұрын
Oh man - I'm gonna be going back after that eeprom once more after reading this. It's still laying here with the wires frayed off of it.
@BillCarrIpswich2 жыл бұрын
@@ststele I've got the JC ID V1S and it is insanely unreliable when it comes to backing up logic eeproms. The screen ones are fine, but iphone 6, 7, 8 and XS eeproms all took lots of messing about to get them to read. No mistakes on my part, no bad soldering, the tool is just extremely unreliable. It even detected the iPhone 8+ logic eeprom as a screen. Still backed up and wrote OK, after lots of fiddling. Try yours again, it'll probably work in the end, and you won't know what you did differently!

So, I guess for this kind of stuff, it would be cool to have a device with pins mapped to something like a breadboard via adapter with different pitches, so you can put the eprom chip, hold it down (some lever to be built-in), and you don't need to solder as long as pins are flexible enough to handle "dirty" package surface. I am pretty sure something like that already exists though
@Joel-st5uw2 жыл бұрын
From here in my arm chair, it looks like the "off by 1 column" error was on the ground pins and not the others. I think the ground connection was bridging GND and PP_VDD_MAIN on the chip. Maybe that shouldn't have mattered (is PP_VDD_MAIN for the inductors and not the EEPROM?). Anyway, I don't think that's what you meant to do. The column with all grounds was 11, it looks to me like you bridged two pins on column 10. Doubling up on ground pins seems unnecessary for this job, and adds extra avenues for counting errors. Perhaps safer to use just one ground pin on the edge for added confidence in the future?
@ststele2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, there was really no need to be trying to solder across both pins! Part of the tunnel vision I get when I know a camera is watching me.

I wonder how those inductor ICs work .. normally if you heat up regular coil inductors you might damage the isolation of the wire -- thus you are changing the value of the inductor and it might be the reason why the device draws more power than usual. I have seen that multiple times in the past.

It's kind-of not surprising if you look at the new M1 Studio. Basically the SSD is just memory chips, with the SSD controller in the CPU, ie, a mem controller failure can't be repaired with a simple SSD swap. The SSD is also 5x the cost of a normal SSD.

Perhaps all the GND pins are not internally connected in "Lisa"? You might have to find the correct GND pin by diode reading against 1.8V. Also, if a coil is burned open, why not just hook another coil up in parallel without desoldering "Lisa", in cases when it is just data recovery?
@ststele2 жыл бұрын
Ahhh, this could have been a ground issue. I think I could have made a backup as long as I started with enough charge in the battery. It will connect with USB but won't charge. I like the idea of just sticking that LX coil somewhere else and leaving the severed limb. 🙂

Hello bro, it is not your fault. 8/8p iPhones has a huge problem - design errors in layers of motherboard. 8/8p has two versions intel or Qualcomm baseband. For first and second design factories do motherboards, but there are different manufacturers. 8/8p on Qualcomm baseband has motherboard with poor layered textolite quality. Customers came with this phones, has different and weird problems (not charging, no power, rebooting, stuck on logo, no sound, no image), but board looks good. Just hot board 150 degrees Celsius 2-5 minutes and it can work perfectly. Non-reparable, yeah, swap to another board do not, because another board from those manufacturer, may be with same issue Xr has 3 different manufacturers, revision A,B,10 wrote behind the top under the sticker “A” or “10” can die or lose baseband/Wi-Fi/camera for no reason. Only “B” works good, and can be used as do or for swap

They do it to fuck with the repair technician. :-) I think they did it because there was "space" Condensing small ICs into few bigger one makes building of the devices easier. Less elements to place. This is is a beef of mine for 25 years. Even the old home computers had that problem. Atari packed 3 ICs into one in a newer generation of computers, making the testing an repair much more complicated.

Does anybody sell a breakout board for this chip (for the sake of EEPROM IO)? Seems like that could add a lot of safety and confidence in this kind of recovery. If these inductors are known to get toasted on 8's, it could be worthwhile building a quick breakout yourself (or asking if the community is willing to do it). Would prob be cheap to order from somewhere like PCBWay or similar service.
