For your search box popping up off the screen you can also try draging your taskbar to the top of the screen and back. (make sure you unlock the taskbar first) The search box should snap to below where the taskbar was, might be quicker then your blind keystrokes...

I've been attempting board level repair for a while now and teaching myself alongside with doing it. Today I finally managed to find a shorted capacitor on an iPhone 6 on a 5V7 power rail and resolved the short after removing the cap. Videos like these help me in my theoretical knowledge, but actually doing this stuff is a whole different thing. Anyways, the LCD now works...kinda, but with my usual bad luck the phone has further surprises for me. Turns out touch is not working, and the lcd has some strange ghosting effect (not to mention the whole motherboard is bent because I received the phone that way). Its difficult enough to do SMD rework with a crappy hot air & soldering station, without a microscrope and with a tiny working space, and now I've gotta reflow or replace the Touch IC? Screw me right?

Ist always so funny and hilarious, But whats is real important then your handy microscope ? Do you realize what are you breathing in? Heat up the bord , there is flux on the bord ans some flux and lead solder, tin residue YOUR 2 LONGS, LONGS THAT YOU CANT REPLACE SO BAY a AIR SUCKER OR MAKE IT YOUR SELF Make a simple sucker that you be sure that that smoke and flux residue will suck away from you !!

Nice fix :) ever serviced a Microsoft surface RT? I cant find anything about this board. I mean, nothing. It behaves like its trying to power up in a cycle and I say that because the 12v keeps oscilating. No water traces or corrosion. I'm thinking a bad cap but I have no clue where to inject power.

I enjoy watching these videos because I too like repairing phones and laptops whatever else. I repaired my iPhone 6 plus just because I couldn't see it there not working. So I got a new chassis for it and screen and it took forever since it was my first time ever removing all the parts from inside that it was a bit overwhelming lool. So many tiny screws and different sizes that I did try to mirror the positions of the screws on my mat but, when you have a child running around and curious about stuff the screws got mixed so it was a lot of trial an error but, I just put what felt right through tension not to much just incase I got it wrong and messed the board up. A few months after since I've been using it tho the screen on the top right corner is darken abit compared to the rest of the screen and now to add to the commotion when I press my power button to lock the screen it doesn't want to come back on but, the phone is still working as when I hold the home button it vibrates so watching your videos I'm coming to some conclusion that either one of the screws are too big for where I may have misplaced one or two or the screen needs replacing again as it was a rather cheap screen. I'd like some support on that if anyone can help?

I replaced my cracked display assembly on my iPhone 6s, right at the end when I was plugging the new screen in it sparked and I got a bit of smoke. Can't see any damage but I'm not getting any image. The phone is definitely powering on, tried old screen no image either. Can you advise what it might be?
@SparkyFace54 жыл бұрын
I don't know what it might be exactly, but my advice is to make sure the battery is not plugged in when you reconnect the screen cables as it's super easy to accidentally short pins during reconnect.

The easiest way I've explained about capacitors in troubleshooting is that once they become resistors, that's when you have your short-to-ground. The dialectic material somehow dries up or leaks, therefore allowing the current to pass through from the VCC to the VSS, thereby rendering it a resistor. It could very well be bad manufacturing of the cap. I expect caps to go bad with legacy equipment, but very rarely in electronics that are only a few years old. There's some physics involved here, where a large thru-hole electrolytic cap has more mass than a tiny SMD cap. So, I would say that the thru-hole cap has a better chance at a longer life than a smaller part. Engineering at Apple, Samsung, etc. do in fact know this, but have decided for the consumers that their products are not meant to be around for a long period of time. As for the shielding being cracked, that could very well have happened sometime in the past, but didn't cause a problem at that time. So, the customer didn't lie, as he really does think that the phone suddenly stopped working.
