Always felt the same about Broady as I did about Freddy Flintoff - their greatest sin was playing for the other side. Would be my favourite players of all time if only they weren't English. Great areas lads.

As a fast bowler it’s quite amazing he was able to play and perform at the highest level for as long as he did. He played in 121 ODI’s from 2006 to 2016 and 167 tests between 2007 and 2023 and is only the second English bowler after James Anderson to take over 600 test wickets. Englands second greatest ever bowler after Anderson.

A true competitor. Completely understands the conditions/headspace necessary to succeed. Taking notes to remind himself not to complain about the pitch because of the psychological effect on the team and the crowd, this man understands that the game is not limited to the pitch. When he first started playing test cricket, he was being talked about as the successor to Freddie Flintoff as England's next all rounder. He was pretty good with the bat as well, until he got hit badly against India in 2014. His batting went downhill after that. A top score of 169 against Pakistan in 2010 is an example of that.

I never thought I'd say this but i agree 100% with Broady on how long the world cup has gone on as well as the knock outs. The way the ICC decided to change the format i don't think has worked. They need to go back to the two pools & knockout stages is way better. Also you've gotta say about Broady is where was his "spirit of cricket" when not walking. Yeah ok the umpire doesn't give him out then he's not out but at least his honest tho. Also the spirit of cricket when Uzzie was given out caught when there was daylight between bat & ball & was very evident & even worse was the third umpires decision while England watching the replay on the big screen & yet they took the wicket instead of calling Uzzie back. So there's no difference in that & what happened with Bairstow & there's no way if it was the other way around then u can say without a doubt that 0% chance England would call the Aussie batsman back yet we Aussie's are the country that doesn't have the spirit of cricket, neither has Bangladesh so at least we have company
@shreyassarangi6106 Жыл бұрын
The good thing is, the 2027 will be 2 pools of 7 and then knockouts. But it's like a super 6 and then semis and final, which is still knockout-y but it's not the exact same ig. Still should be good

#asktgc Curious to hear how you guys rank (or compare) the Maxwell knock against Bevan's epic knock with the last ball 4 against the Windies in 1996? Given the changes in the game, particularly the size of the grounds, I find it still one of the hardest to beat and one of the few innings i vividly remember where i was at the time, listening to the ABC commentary with the old man. Given that you guys are a similar vintage I'm betting you have similar memories of how iconic that innings was, cant compete in terms of the sheer number of runs, but such a masterful display of a tactical brain. Bevan must have performed more rescue operations than Gary Sweet for that team and was such an important and sometimes forgotten player of an amazing era.

the cricket WC(s) from now on should be 16 teams in 4 groups of 4 : seed the teams and have quarter finals: 29 matches (30 if you want a 3rd/4th game) and it's done - you can do it in 5/6 weeks without flogging the players. Group 1 - India, South Africa, Ireland, Netherlands Group 2 - Australia, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, Scotland Group 3 - England, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, qualifier from an emerging nations competition. Group 4 - New Zealand, Sri Lanka, West Indies, USA(their potential is huge and they will bring tv and sponsorship - i.e they can pay their way) you get 2 weeks of knockout matches instead of 1, and every match will have jeopardy because even against the minnow team there will be an onus on winning well for the run rate. and change the points - 3 for a win, 2 for a tie/abandonment and 1 for losing by less than 25 runs on net run rate - give teams an incentive to fight in the latter stages when victory is unlikely but staying in and scoring runs still has a benefit even in defeat... we've had far too many processions in this tournament where the team behind seems to think "fuck it" and collapses batting or fielding after 35/40 overs instead of at least taking it to the last over or two. we've had some incredible performances from NZ, SA Afghanistan & Oz and India have been showing us all tournament how good ODI cricket can be in terms of individual performances with bat or ball but this tournament has lacked nail-biters andi think we need more jeopardy from the first maches for it to be a viable tournament. This league format just allows players to go with their IPL mentality where teams take a few games to warm up sometimes but have enough games to overcome the initial tardiness.
