The examples are well chosen and the supporting explanations are good, except in one regard. 'Ideology' is being used in this video to mean something like 'a conscious point of view'. This is not a meaning I recognise. To use 'ideology' in the same way as 'viewpoint' is to deny its conceptual usefulness. Viewpoint already does the job for you. Use 'ideology' instead to describe the unconscious system of beliefs belonging to some constituency you choose to examine. It is very difficult for most of us to escape the idelogical dynamism at work in our feelings, actions and decision making. Your video overstates (personal) agency. In the terms I am arguing for it is not conceptually feasible to possess a personal ideology. I want this posting to be helpful.

Hi, thank you so much for this video! I really need this for my exam tomorrow. And quick question, I learnt that there is another reading called the aberrant reading. Is this a part of Hall's theory I need to know about?

Are we the baddies? I mean, we have these swastikas on our arms and skulls on our caps, so it makes me wonder that we might be the baddies. I mean, why skulls? That model isn't beach ready, she's beach super ready!

What if gay audiences inside the movie houses that are showing gay soft porn totally reject or never pay attention to the film but do cruising for sex or do public sex inside the dark areas of the theatre, is that considered oppositional?

What is the importance of Hall's writing to the communication studies?
@TheMediaInsider4 жыл бұрын
He was concerned with how meaning is created - cultures share understanding about signs in the world (myths). The media has the ability to shape this meaning, but audiences don't have to accept it.
