Hi Stuart, couple of days back washed my bike and polished and sprayed it the exact same way you explained in the video. When I took the bike out yesterday got stuck in bad rain and the bike got dirty but after reaching home all I had to do was to run it down with some water and that's all I had to do.. No scrubbing or shampoo needed to get rid of the dirt. I just want to thank you for this guide and making our life so easy.

Great video, very informative! I learned something about paint technology today. I'm glad you mentioned not applying petroleum-based products accidentally on your brakes/tires. I'd like to add that many car washes have wax in them and should also be avoided because the wax residue will remain on the tires as well.

Mr. Fillingham, I can think of no higher praise than to say that the ‘Full Fillingham’ has made all the difference to how my bike looks , as well as to how easily it sheds muc(k). On which subject , I’ve started using muc off bike cleaner concentrate and miracle shine wax, and they’re excellent products , long - lasting and labour saving. I’ve also started ( after you recommended it )air drying my bike after a wash, and it certainly goes a long way in getting it properly dry, especially behind badges and in those infuriating little crevices in the swing arm. And lastly, and not apropos to this video, but yes, Sir, I do know where Yorkshire is , thanks to reading the vet James Herriot as a kid. More power to you, Sir, and please keep them coming.

Cracking video , I've had my Bonneville 865 for almost ten years and if we keep on top of it they can look as good as the day we rolled it out of the showroom ! Incidentally , couldn't help noticing your right hand gaiter may need rotating a tad to locate the vent holes to the rear which may help reduce the ingress of moisture and road grit and grime .

So after some looking around it seems in the past couple years due to a licensing or trademark issue GT85 is no longer imported to the States. I have started using Muc Off MO94 as a replacement and seems to work quite well. Time will tell.

Thanks Stuart for the video.. I have just bought a Speedmaster which was a dealer demo and needs some work. I look forward to giving it a good clean and I will definately use some or all of these products if available downunder. I just need to repair the paint on the forks which has few marks and there is already a bit of rust on the spokes. It was a good price so I am not complaining. Your videos will cover most of what needs doing. Looking forward to the next ones. Brian.

Great video Stuart! I actually really liked the longer format...gave me enough time to eat my bowl of cereal and have a cup of coffee before it was all done. Hi Stuart, A note on maintenance and protection. I just finished a 4500 Km tour in the north of Spain on my 4 month old T120 black I had about a week of heavy rain over there and no good chelter to dry down everything after each ride. Actualy the new bike was left in the rain for that 7 day period. When comming home and starting to clean the bike I noticed quiet an amount of heavy oxidation on a lot of bolds and even a big amount of rust on the disc brakes (not the brake surface). To see my brand new bike in this condition after just 4 months makes my heart break. I used MO-94 before leaving home, gues it did'nt last for a week I supose some parts of the bike aren't realy made for touring, just for a nice sunny sunday afternoon

Great video, I might give some of them ago. I have the matt green Street Scrambler and used some muc off speed polish I had in the garage on that not really thinking about it, came out super shiny to my suprise, that Matt finish stuff might be the answer.
@stuartfillingham7 жыл бұрын
Hi Kris. it may be still matt underneath the wax, try removing it with a proprietary tar remover for paint work see if it matts up again. like I said they do satinise with time any way, the matt detailer is probably the way to go, but as I said ive not tried it yet!
@TheDervMan7 жыл бұрын
Your best video yet. Always great to learn from someone who has real world experience. I've certainly learnt something about paint today. I paused the video when you were discussing the Simoniz wax so I could order some, only to find the Muc Off one is perhaps slightly better 😱. That will teach me for not waiting until the end 😉👍🏻. Also interesting to here your thoughts on Muc-Off, I just assumed it was bit of a con, so that's something else I've learnt today.
@stuartfillingham7 жыл бұрын
Nice to hear from you Dervman glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful. To be honest all polishes are con in one way or another but some are better than others, The muc off might not be the best on the market but it is the best ive tested so far! and ive tested a few! It does a good job, Its in the right price range, and its economical. Its good enough until I discover something better!

I may have missed it. I did not see anything about cleaning the radiator core. The liquid cooling heat exchanger is exposed to all sorts of oncoming mud, grit, insects, water, oil, and other road born fluids. How does one clean it? I would think that would be important not to just appearance but to the health of the engine, as heat transfer is affected by all that muck.

I’ve used GT85 for years on bicycle chains...... but I would think this oil residue on engine would be a dirt magnate on engine and especially small parts one cannot wipe off. But I will give it a try. Thanks
@scothunter32216 жыл бұрын
Well I took your advice and detailed my 5 month old T100 yesterday. Should have been done right out of the dealer for protection but nevertheless the results were outstanding. Had to make a few substitutes as Muc-off is hard to find/expensive here in the States, but did use their Bike Cleaner and MO-94. Simoniz also seems to be disappearing from the States so used one of Maguires pure carnauba waxes and some sort of tire shine. Now, as I don't have a garage to protect her under the Arizona sun we'll see how it all holds up. I do have a carport and regularly use a bike cover, but as I ride nearly everyday the latter is a bit of a nuisance. One question, do you use anything on the knee pads and seats? Right now I use some 303 uv protectant on the seat but nothing on the pads. Fantastic video Stuart!
@stuartfillingham6 жыл бұрын
Glad it worked out for you Scot, the method is 2/3 of the process anyway so as long as the products you use are of good quality the results should still be good. we dont get the same intensity of sun here so i rarely use such products on the rubber and seat. I would say though that rubber is more prone to sun damage than vinyl so if it is suitable for rubber i would use the product on your knee pads too!
@scothunter32216 жыл бұрын
Thanks Stuart. Hadn't thought of that but am also thinking the tire shine might work as well (though leave a shiny finish). Also, I've Googled, Amazon-ed, and about every thing else I could think of but could find no carnauba wax with PTFE here in the States, except for Muc-off's at three times the price of Maguires. I'll stick with the Maguires for now.
@stuartfillingham6 жыл бұрын
Here Maguiars tends to be far more expensive than MUC OFF here, wonder why they are charging so much for it there!

Hi Stuart, firstly please accept my sincere apologies, this comment does not appear in print, how I saw it in my 'mind's eye' (all be that through the bottom of a Timothy Taylors' Landlord Pale Ale glass!) I have indeed seen the Yorkshire Dales video's, please refer to my original comment on your Buttertubs Pass Vol Two edition, part of which reads " ......this is proving a great series and the best video of the Buttertubs Pass I have seen on YT, " Also it seems I may have misunderstood on your future tours front, I thought you had 'a big trip' on the horizon, and was wetting my lips at the prospect of (say) 30 minute video's. (I figured you were using the Dales trip as a 'shakedown' of the gear and bike) In this instance, of 'a long series' of longer video's, some 'on bike audio ' would be welcome addition and could result in higher viewing and subscription numbers. (In my defence, I was a loud voice on the camping gear review if you remember....how many views does that stand at now.....I'm sure the Evistr L53 would do a sterling job of it. TCRSM8

Hi Stuart and Greetings from the US I love your videos and your gorgeous T-120! I have your videos bookmarked and look at them regularly. I just purchased a Triumph Trophy SE due to my size and it was between the T-120 and this bike. I wanted to ask if you have any knowledge or experience with a process called Simonize or Simonizing. My dealer sold me on this stating that it provides a glass like coating on the paint and protects the paint for the "written guarantee" for life of the owner. The manufacturer states that there is no problem with the washing and waxing that you use on your bike which I question. This process costs me a pretty penny and I hope I didn't throw good money after bad. Please keep up your videos. I really enjoy them and all your concern about keeping us informed about all things on the Triumph. Best Regards and Cheers! Gary

Hi, Nice to hear from you and congratulations on your purchase. these kind of lifetime protection processes have been around for a long time eg total protection system, diamond brite, etc most polish companies have their own version of it. there is no straight answer to this as its impossible to quantify the results. its basically some sort of polymer coating, I cant honestly see how it can last as long as they say or stand up to abrasion from corrective polishing etc. my theory is that they just rely on you selling the vehicle on long before problems appear on the paintwork and hence very rarely have to make good on the written guarantee.

Good question David, mainly because the tank generally doesn't get as dirty as the rest of the bike so I prefer to use a more gentle cleaner on it to preserve the layers of wax.

In light of advances of products and alterations of formulas such as Muc Off changing there MO94 to a biodegradable version. Have you changed any of your preventative formula choices? With the rise in dry PTFE sprays, would you a use dry ptfe spray's? With the move by Muc Off to change there MO94 to a full biodegrable version would you discount the Muc Off and stick with the GT85? Appreciate all the content you produce keep up the great work. Do you also still use the wax oil spray for swing arm and rear fender? Seams to have down sized to 400ml and now labelled hammerite wax/oil.

Appreciate all of your video's Stuart , also I have the Matt graphite paintwork!Interesting point about GT 85 for use on the engine housing.Will it be ok on the blackened pipes ? Also, I have spotted some triumph panniers on eBay, 1/2 price, £230 but it says for t100 air cooled, wondering if they would still fit the 2017 t120
@stuartfillingham7 жыл бұрын
Hi Victor, Thank you! GT85 should be the perfect dressing for the powder coated pipes! just soak a workshop wipe in the stuff and apply it all over them, working it well in to the textured finish. while the bike is cold! the header pipes are double skinned so they wont get as hot as conventional pipes, this means the dressing should last longer. I would use it on the entire exhaust system, it will return them to their original dark colour, stop them going grey and make them much easier to clean. Regarding the panniers, I'm not sure sir but I would suspect they will not fit the old t100 is very different from the new T120. please let me know how you get on with the GT85!

Hi Stuart, another great vid. I have just got myself a 2013 Kawasaki w800, with plenty of chrome so ive been rewatching a few of your cleaning and maintaining vids. Just one question. This is an old video but im sure it still applies. I have gt85 for my bicycle fortunately, after spraying the chrome and drying it off, do i still apply the muc off miracle shine, as that already has the ptfe is that basically giving the chrome 2 coats ?

Be careful with Miracle Shine on the tank. It left pink stains on the white paint (Baker Express Interceptor) that took me ages to rub out. I even had to use the dreaded WD40! Gave me quite a scare.

Great Video. I'd be interested in how you clean and protect those chrome spokes? When I first picked up my used TU250X I thought the spokes were galvanised they were that dirty. I still haven't really got them clean of chain throw off and road grime. Also for tyre sidewalls, plastics and rubber I use 303 Aerospace Protectant as it is Matt Finish and not slippery/sticky like Armour All. For some reason it is also the best dead bug remover I have found.

paulaus yeah I've heard they do rust if left intended. I just give them a coat of wax every now and then and they've been ok so far! I let the chain lube coat the rear ones. will keep them rust free and just give them a scrub up and coat of wax every few months

Hi Stuart, from Portugal! Is it safe to apply GT85 or Muc Off Miracle Shine in black silencers? i have the T120 black and i'm afraid with heat it could ruin the coating.. any thoughts or experience? Thanks for the very nice videos and good luck with the new project.
@stuartfillingham6 жыл бұрын
I wont cause any damage sir, but it will evaporate to a degree when the exhaust gets hot. just let the pipes cool down after a ride then re apply you don't need much!

Hi Stuart, I am Gustavo from Brazil and just got my brand new T120 Black. There isn’t any chrome parts in my bike (exhaust pipes, frame...) can you please advise if I can wax these black parts in the same way you showed in the painted part of your bike? Any good tips of conservation and maintaining a bike in a hot country like Brazil? I just also want to say I am addicted to your videos. Really good stuff!!!!

Hello Stuart. Seems like the Muc-off tire shine gel is not available anymore, even from the Muc-off website. Perhaps they've taken it off the market? Anyway, I was going to go online and order another product for that use, but I thought I'd ask if there's a good alternative you've used and are happy with. It's always good to know what products have the Fillingham seal of approval! :)

Im still using my gel Jorge! it lasts forever! which is probably why they have discontinued it! i shall review an alternative when it comes to replacement!

Hi Stuart. I currently own an Triumph Bonneville T100 Sixty that I'm selling with the goal of upgrading to the T120. I'm in love with the Black Graphite Matte. Is there any special caution on caring for the painting you'd recommend? Thanks for your attention. I'm your follower and a big fan of your videos
@stuartfillingham7 жыл бұрын
Hi Rui thanks for watching and yes matt paint is quite problematic. Iwould recommend that you use Muc off matt paint detailer. its a wax based pump spray which leaves a dead flat matt finish but protects the paintwork with a water repellent finish. see my helmet cleaning video from a few months ago. I used it there to clean a matt finished helmet. other than that dont use a wash and wax shampoo just a standard car or bike shampoo.

Very informative, thanks. What do you think about TopCoat® F11. Would it do the job on a matt finish paint?

I'm afraid i don't know the product Rui, But i can recommend Muc Off matt finish detailer.

Thanks! I'll receive my new T120 black Matt in April. Can't wait to ride it. In the meantime I'm learning a lot from your videos. Could you post a video about fixing tire holes? There's a lot of info regarding fixing tire holes on tubeless tires, which is not the case of the T120. I'm sure your followers would love that. Just a suggestion... ;)

Hi Stuart - how do you treat the exhaust headers and silencers? Is it 'safe' to wax them, or should I use something else? Looks like you waxed the silencers at least, but I would have thought the heat could have caused an issue. The headers are even hotter, so what would you do to maintain those? My dad swore by Autosol (German metal polish) which creates a pretty good 'seal'. Cheers.

Hello Stuart! First of all thanks for your videos about how to clean and protect our Triumph bikes. Recently I washed and waxed my Thruxton EFI 900 in the way you explain in your videos and the result was amazing. I have one question for you. The chromes in my wheels and the alloy cases in the engine don’t shine as much as yours. Actually they look a bit shady. I was checking out the muc-off metal polish but I’m not sure is the right product for bringing back the shine to those parts. Any further recommendation? Thanks again! Best regards from Barcelona! Enric

Hi Stuart excellent video once again. On your close ups I noticed the spokes are not at their best. Is it the camera/light or is there a problem. Is the warranty 12 or 24 months.
@stuartfillingham7 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, well spotted sir, No problem with the spokes, they are just covered in chain lube! Its a fiddly job cleaning them and the lube protects them from corrosion so I only clean them up every few months. The warranty is 24 months !

Well Sir, this has been very useful. I had previously thought that GT85 may merely be a poor substitute for WD40, but Lo, it is indeed the proper substance. Your readers may wish to know that 400ml cans of GT85 are currently £4 at both Halfords, and at Morrison's forecourt petrol stations. Having just cleaned my bike, leaving it to dry, then finding immovable road tar blips on the engine cases (I even tried meths on a rag - no joy), I thought I would simply have to resort to trying some Muc off next time around. But imagine my astonishment when upon applying the GT85, the tar blips just dissolved and gently rubbed away .... magic. Anyway Sir, with you being a trade professional, what would you have to say about using beeswax aerosol spray (as in furniture and such) polish, on the paintwork. I've heard people say that they even use Mr Pledge. Any views (or perceived risks) on using these non motor specific sheening products? Kind Regards.
@stuartfillingham7 жыл бұрын
Any furniture polish is a big no sir! some contain salt! and they give no protection at all! at the end of the day they are made to polish wood!
