I'm someone who had zero experience working on vehicles/engines up until I bought my RE. Using your videos, along with some others, I've managed to install crash bars and a sump guard, change my oil, adjust my tappets, and adjust my chain. I'd say it doesn't take experience to work on, just good instructions and some basic mechanical comprehension. My journey on this started when my dealership said it'd be around $650 to get my valves adjusted. I wasn't about to drive an hour to pay someone that much for something I could learn to do myself, andhavent turned back

Same situation. Bought an RE Himalayan and the dealer was an hour away and wanted 600$ for first time maintenance at 300 miles. I bought what I needed for about 100$ and Never looked back!

I bought a 2023 Classic 350 in Chrome Bronze (the other chrome option) about 13 months ago and the love affair with this motorcycle continues. I an new to motorcycling but am doing some of my own basic maintenance and cleaning and have found it enjoyable and yet another way to connect with this cherished motorcycle.

I had the speedometer issue as well, but I live in Arizona, U S.A. where nobody cares if your speedometer works or not. Therefore, I simply rode the bike until the parts came in...about three weeks. It took the dealer three days to replace and I was out the door. Wonderful dealer! Like you, I do my own maintenance so I save some money there and in return, I gain a "relationship" with my bike. A wonderful thing!

The issue that could arise in the UK, is the amount of recently introduced 20mph areas all around the country. Even for the 350, an easy limit to exceed.

A motorcycle for motorcyclists; spot on. I have almost 1k miles on my Hunter since late October this year, I've done the service myself, as is my habit, and found the bike to be the equal of, or better than my previous Japanese bikes in fit, finish and equipment. I want a lot of the same things the Indian home market wants; reliability, ease of maintenance, and good value. RE delivers👌

Wholeheartedly agree, bikes can get under the skin, I feel exactly the same about my little 321cc Yamaha MT03. I bought it initially due to it’s low seat height but then it grew on me due to it’s low weight, brilliant fuel consumption, excellent build quality, slick gearbox, super smooth power delivery, 100% Yamaha reliability, cheap servicing and enough power (42 bhp) to enable overtakes, headwinds and hills to be conquered with ease. Downsides, I don’t suppose the looks are to everyone’s taste, but you don’t see it when you’re sat on it !

There is something about your videos, Stuart. I just enjoy hearing from you, and seeing you ride about. Subscribed today. At 72, I am off of my motorcycles now, but still up on two wheels on a bicycle - it's not the same experience, but very close at times, very enjoyable still.

🎄Merry Christmas🎄 Stuart. I've owned my Meteor for 18 months now, and apart from the first service, I've carried out all other services myself. The bike's just clicked over 15,000Klms and I've had no issues so far. A great little bike that I thoroughly enjoy riding. Looking forward to your spooky Christmas story.👻

Oh, for the days of old, when a story telling was among the most entertaining events known and often a great means of reinforcing a life lesson. One of limited mental facilities may not understand it, but one was usually free to leave or just ignore it, rather than attempt to find a reason to prohibit its retelling.

They should have hydraulic valve adjustment and belt drive to eliminate 2 major services.Old Hondas and Triumph had easy to adjust valves with simple to remove valve caps for easy access to the valves without taking the gas tank off. My Sportster just needs the fluids and filters changed.

@frankmarkovcijr5459
@frankmarkovcijr5459 7 ай бұрын
@@CosmicSeeker69 My Sportster was 1 1/2 years old and it cost me $7,000 in 2000. I have had my Sportster for 25 years and 400,000 miles on the original engine and 37 back tires and 17 front ones and 3 belts in 25 years. Today you can get a good used Sportster for $1,600-$3,500 with low mileage. I have shops mounted tires that's it. Used RE 350 are going for bargain prices. Let's see how many engine rebuilds your 350 will go through in 25 years. If you still even have it. Think about how many chains and sprockets replacement costs in 400,000 miles compared to 3 drive belts . No expensive dealer serviceing either. They are counting on people who are too lazy to do valve adjustment themselves and taking it to the dealership for tune ups. They had hydraulic valve adjustment on the 500,less maintenance for the rider.

Thank you Stuart. Almost 5000km on my Hunter 350, absolutly no issues as well. Very fun urban commuter for a 60 year old gent. The Himalayan 450 is now available for pre-order here in Australia for $8990.00 AUS. Tempting. Which is exactly the same price as the CF Moto 450MT interestingly enough. A light weight adventure bike might be fun. But, I think my heart belongs to Royal Enfield.

Stu, I'm a Meteor 350 owner, a sister J engine machine, so I'll comment. I knew that, as a retiree, if I wanted to get back into motorcycling, then I'd have to do most of my own maintenance. One, I do it to save money; if I paid someone else to do all the routine stuff, I couldn't ride. Two, the dealer is too far away; we're talking 45 minutes, one way, to get there. Then, you need to have a way back. Three, the dealer was so backed up with work that, the last time I checked, you were looking at a two month wait just to get your bike INTO their shop! To put it another way, when I asked the service manager if he could print out the valve clearances for me, he happily did so. He was relieved that there was one less consumer adding to his already heavy workload. As you said, no one buys a bike like the Classic or the Meteor because they want a speedster. At my age, I don't need or want a speedster. In addition to being dangerous, speed costs money! I'm sure you've heard the old racer's saying: speed costs money; how fast do you want to go? No, 60-70 mph is quite fast enough for me. I don't know why RE went to the trouble of limiting the J series bikes though; given their weight and horsepower numbers, they would top out at 75-80 if ungoverned. That's no biggie though, as I don't ride much faster than 60 most of the time these days. I love the handling, the secure ride, the maneuverability, and how these bikes sip fuel. All in all, they're GREAT bikes!

Love the comment about “consumers”, so true ! I have several bikes, all were bought with home maintenance in mind, not least my Scram. Home maintenance is not only the main reason why I can afford to own several bikes, it’s also a big part of the fun and satisfaction.

I have a 350 classic in red, too. Picked one up last spring. This is easily the most reliable bike I've ever owned. I've had a total of 5 REs, this being the 5th. I have this one and a 2008 bullet remaining. The bullet is actually in my profile pic behind me. I have a sentimental attachment to the 08, so I won't sell. But, as far as reliability, these two bikes are worlds apart unsurprisingly. I can't see parting with either. When I first saw the 350 in red, it reminded me of an old BSA with that color scheme. It's such a gorgeous bike. Unlike the 08, I know I can go into the garage, and it'll start right up. Also, it is so comfortable to ride, and the low center of gravity makes it very easy to manage. Happy Christmas and New Year! I'm looking forward to the spooky story on Friday. All the best!

Good morning Stuart, I've had my Classic 350 since the beginning of July, I've done 3,500 miles so far with no issues whatsoever, I've done all my own servicing right from the start with genuine parts and oil from the dealer that I bought it from, so they know I've been using genuine stuff should I ever have a warranty claim ,but they have no issues with me doing my own maintenance anyway. As for enjoyment of the bike I have two other bigger capacity bikes that I enjoy but , neither of which give me the feeling or connection I get from riding my classic, it's just so relaxing to ride and takes your mind to another place, it's so therapeutic it's weird! I've fitted pannier frames, Lomo side bags and a dry bag for my tent and I'm all set for camping weekend's and rallies that I do, as well as just buggering off out for rides in general. Great video review again 👍 Cheers Mel 🍻

I brought my new to me 2022 Classic 350 Red/Chrome home to Vermont from Connecticut on a trailer the other day. I stopped at a big Vermont welcome center to take a break. When I came back to my truck there were 4 guys standing around the trailer pondering the bike. They wanted to know if I had restored it and what kind of bike it was. Great start to my Royal Enfield journey. I educated them on the Royal Enfieild story. They were fasinated.

I too had a Speedo issue on my Oct 21 mfg Red Chrome Classic 350 at about 5000 km, which was replaced by RE under warranty and the new speedometer started back from Zero. Thanks for the update Stuart. Interesting news about the home maintenance. I had an issue with the rubber on the rear tyre on my Himalayan breaking down. My local dealer at the time King’s ended taking a wheel off a new bike to put on mine and sorting it with Moto GB because it was dragging on. Seems it helps having a good dealer 👍

Stellar video, Sir! Thank you for fleshing out the errant speedo issue. My valve lash experience on both the INT and Meteor, with over 6500 miles on both, is after the initial 300-mile adjustment no further adjustments have been necessary. I have and will continue to check every 6000 miles. Just a guess but I think allowing the engines to run a couple of minutes unloaded when cold and common-sense riding is responsible. Enjoy your well-deserved break Stuart and Happy Holidays to you and yours!

Morning Stewart. Servicing is something you touched on before I recall. When my first service came up in my RE 650 SM went into a shop I trust. £139 it cost and was in the shop for less than two hours before I got a text saying she's ready. The engin had less tappet noise. I noted the clutch had been adjusted and the throttle response was better. Once my girl was back in the garage I did a quick check for leaks as you do. That's when i noticed the chain had been adjusted and chain wax lub applied. Then the real surprise. A shot of chain wax lub was visible on the side and center stands on the moving parts. The type of service you'd get only at a 5-star Honda dealership, so very pleased with there work. That said my brother-laws mate who bought the 350 RE Hunter had a bit of a shock. His first service £220..! So I guess servicing still depends on a shop location and it's size? Wishing you and your family a very Happy Christmas sir. And all the best in seeing your channel grow in 2024! Safe cruising till next time Stewart 😊👍.

On the speedo issue from a SoCal rider. Mine went wonky, took it to the local dealer and they ordered the part the same day. It came in about 2 weeks later. I took it back over and it was replaced while I waited. On maintenance I am having the Hitchcock's Cam being installed right now. My guy is doing it for the standard valve adjustment price of $675. All of the RE dealers here in SoCal are also Ducati dealers so we get soaked for the commensurate labor rates. Before anybody says anything I was a racing mechanic at the local track for 6 years and also spent time on the Honda AMA team so yeah I can easily do anything on the bike but at my age I just want to ride. I have 3k miles on her and would recommend it to anybody that asks. Merry Christmas Stu!

Don't no if you read comments a few months later. Always watch your videos shortly after release. This came on while I was doing the dishes. On the subject of defective speedos. It is relatively simple to fit a wireless bicycle speedo to any motorcycle. As long as it you program the actual wheel circumference in carefully, they are very accurate. + Could keep you on the road. - Night illumination could be challenging.

Once again my friend you have summed up both Royal Enfield ownership and the true meaning of a motorcyclist as only you can , keep it simple and honest! I have just got my Meteor 350 up to the 1500 mile mark and changed to fully synthetic oil, and its changed so much through the running in process that I cannot remember how tight and hot it was in the beginning but bloody fits the bill for both its now an entirely different animal and I can’t help thinking that so many people have bought these bikes and sold them on again just because they don’t have the patience and need instant results, running the motor in properly has im sure been a big factor in how my bike rides but fully synthetic oil has been a revelation, as has the fuel x optimiser which a lot of people said is just snake oil but no its not and neither is the open air box but concerned with the motor running hot after i changed the filter cover i then put the optimiser on and the two together have made a massive difference , you can’t really use more air that the syst can deal with but now its got more air and more available fuel so its simply got bags more power at lower revs, and last is the 16 tooth front sprocket again a major improvement through the gears i think its geared for riding on Indian back roads because the bigger front sprocket if anything has quickened acceleration because first gear runs out just as it beginning to pick up its skirts n run but theres more useful urge there that i can now access with the extra tooth , keep up the good work fella and no i’m I don’t want to swap my precious 😂👍

I usually do my own basic maintenance ... the 650 Interceptor is old school valve adjustment.... a bit of a pain to do as opposed to my Xs650's... my 500 Bullet is hydraulic .... Yes !... and my old Ducati's are the only bikes I don't do valve adjustments simply because I don't have the shims...they go to the dealer. The only issue I've had on the Interceptor... in Ravishing Red ! .. was the rear master cylinder.... which was replaced under warranty. I'm lucky in that my dealer allows me to do basic maintenance.... even the master cylinder.. in his work shop area parking lot. He's always busy and the shop still gets filter and oil payment. I'm very pleased both machines. :)

Hi Stuart, I’m just about to take delivery of a brand new (24 plate)Classic 350, I’m aware the Royal Enfield have parted company with MotoGB and Enfield are taking control of their own Dealerships. I have spent a week calling dealers around the country with discounted classic 350’s. From what I gather your 3 year warranty will only be honoured if it it serviced by a Royal Enfield Dealer. It’s a simple bike to service and personally I think like you I am capable of servicing and maintaining the bike myself. ( using all the recommended components)I wish we could have some clarity on this from Enfield UK.

I had the same issue with my speedometer on my cl350 ! At 800+- miles ! And it took time for it to come from India ! That so far in my 9K + miles over the year has been the only warranty issue I have had with my Welch Cobb !

Great video thanks. I'm still trying to decide between a 350 classic or BSA Gold Star 650 as a second bike, as I really want a single with that classic look and feel.

It still looks like new! wow! You should make a complete maintenance video, including how to maintain it during the rainy (or snowy) days or summer. Some suggested maintenance products would be a good additional information.

Hi Stuart. What tyre pressures do you use as the manual differs from CEATs own recommendations which are much different? I have been told that the CEAT front of 22 psi cuts down on whitr lining etc by other owners.

Interesting information about carrying out owner maintenance, dealer rates are now topping £100 per hour including the VAT, pretty steep for oil changes and so on. Good advice about recording in the log book and keeping receipts, good video. Regards, Tim Gibbs.

Got 2000 on my classic. No mecanical problems but does have slight condensation in the speedo, but it works fine and is only very minor . I just wonder if the condensation is caused by the humidity in the factory where they are assembled and if their is a simple way of venting out the condensation.

Dealer said service would cost £250. I think I'll study your video and get the pleasure of learning more about the bike. And save £250.

There is an amazing chip shop just to the left of where your bike is, I couldn’t recommend it enough, I was working in the area in summer got some bait there and it was unreal haha

I thought I recommended a fix for you when you mentioned the issue... because I had an issue with the speedo and it had to do with a moisture issue with the connectors just disconnect the speedo and blow it out and put dielectric grease on the connectors and button it back up and I have not had an issue.

The only reason why I got my Royal Enfield's was because I can do all my own services. I wanted the Fuel injection and simple Tech and maintenance that I can do and control. The ride is perfect, engine feel of the bikes are awesome.

Stuart, refreshing story of real motorcycling. I think the image of young tear arses buying speed queens has gone, in fact like yourself I was in the job in the 90s and the new breed of born again bikers were with us. I remember attending an accident near Chop Gate in n.yorks, involving a honda fire blade and a BMW R80...(I think) both had a head on, on a sweeping bend. It didn't turn out well, the riders were, 47,and 54. The bikes of their youth were not as powerful as these, Ballistic monsters. I remember at the time thinking that one or two similar accidents like this put motorbike insurance premiums through the roof. I never had more than a modest Suzuki 350 GT up till then. But family responsibilities and no cash curtailed my riding for a while. But I am back now as a new OAP. On a 350 kymco(riding on a sunshine island) happy as a sand boy..all the best and have a merry Christmas and a safe new year

Hi Thank you for the lovely pictures in this video. This time I own a KTM 390 Adv, cause of my hight. But I drive it the same way as you do with the Classic 350. Maybe I buy one if the situation on the dealer side in Germany becomes much better. Merry christmas and a happy new year from germany. btw.: always stay above

A big thank you and a happy Christmas to you from me uncle Stu, as I’ve said in the past I really enjoy your ‘ghost’ stories 👍🏻 now for owning a royal Enfield, I have owned from new a Himalayan and are now p/ex-ing for a Moto Guzzi why well there are a few things, 1.under powered 2. Quality (built to a price)3. Parts from India (can be a good thing as well)overall I’ve enjoyed the royal Enfield experience but it’s the little things such as poor dealer network, parts from India, poor quality items, paint and fittings don’t seem to last in real life environment also the misting of the clocks also happens on the Himalayan. At the time I made the right choice but it’s time for something new😉 Caio for now, Feliz Navidad 👍🏻

Its Mr T a very excellent video well said I didn't really have tappet problem as 4 of my bikes were 2 stroke and 1 was a honda CB 350 thats the tappet bit over now for The maintenance did most myself and optaining service items were purchased at dealer in Troon ayrshire they had all u needed genuine parts now it's all send to Hitchcock's as very few dealers wish to sell as they want your bike to do not you doing it service at 60s 70s only £20 to £30 by cooper bros in troon last bike I had Suzuki GT 550 m the only warranty claim for tha bike was the starter motor driving on motorway at hillington suddenly a stopping surge accured that nearly threw me over the handlebars cause was the starter engaging with the engine and back wheel locked lucky only doing 40 -50 mph found out it was an inherent fault notified Suzuki it was a Month out of warranty but Suzuki agreed to supply all parts and I would have to pay the service which came to £50 that's my experience of servicing ah last bill was £ 200 for 1st service of classic 350 RE keep up the good videos

Why is that truck stopped on zigzag lines at 5:44? I would have stopped, and told the driver that his L plates have fallen off, and where is his driving instructor? If I was a cop he would have got a ticket.
