Brings back so many memories of hearing Harry and Marisa in the 1970s and wonderful to see and hear Armen Boyajian again at the piano. Knew them very well, fabulous artists and wonderful, kind human beings. Ah, the days of Paterson Lyric Opera Theater, I miss it but I'll always have the memories! ♥

What a thrilling souvenir of three great singers I knew well and heard and sang with many times in the 1970s and'80s and even the '90s. Galvani lived up to her name and was always galvanized and galvanizing. Harry Theyard excelled in everything and had a very dramatic temperament on stage. Sam had the voice of a century and a technique to make the most of it. And here are the three of them together in one of Verdi's great dramatic and lyrical climaxes, the trio from "Ernani."

This was taped by me using an early portable REEL to REEL Video Camera. It weighed a TON. But I managed- and got many exciting videos. Was only "thrown out' Once.

Thanks for capturing this great performance, and for posting it so we all can enjoy it. Now I'm enjoying other videos of Galvany's; what an exciting, centered voice.

I first met Harry Theyard in 1986 when I worked with the Palm Beach Opera. We were doing Tosca, Harry and Theresa Kubiak . I can remember going to Testa's restaurant with he and his wife after rehearsals every night for their fresh strawberry pie. We later met again at the Met in the late 90's. I have always his voice. Harry, if you read this I send my best to you and your beautiful wife. Dick

This really is an ideal example of this style and what opera should look and sound like in a live event. All the voices are pretty much real. There is no excessive gloss or pinching or pretending. The tenor is a bit in the nose too much yet he still sends out a natural sound that has an effect. Ramey is relaxed and strong as usual...Galvany is beyond effective and she doesn’t ignore the performers. She reaches out and connects. The voice is not prettied up rather it’s supported and placed and she gets on with it. And the joke is this allows all three of them to send that message to the audience. The piano accompaniment is just at the right tempi and accents. It’s real communication and full of pathos in the throat and enough in the physical acting.

I had the great pleasure of performing Turandot, as Pong, in 1982 with Mme. Galvany. A fiery singer of greatr skill, a great colleague, very easy and enjoyable to work with- one of the last of a sort of dramatic singer, marvelous in intent & conception, which theater directors and especially stage directors do NOT want anymore, fearing that such riveting artists will detract from their 'concepts'. A pity, actually.

I was trying to recall if I really had seen her in Turandot as one of my first operas ever, in Cincinnati around that time of which you speak. This confirms that she was singing the role around then. Thank you.

I first met Marisa and Harry over 40 years ago at the Brevard Music Center. We were doing Trovatore. They were joined by baritone Vern shinall. I was a 20 yr old tenor and got to sing Ruiz with this wonderful cast. Several years later I sang Radames with Marisa and Elizabeth Mannion as Amneris. These were not just great singers. They were great performers

incredibly exciting- thank you so much. Harry was never appreciated as he should have been at the met. Galvany is so exciting as always and as for Ramey- he was wonderful here in full control of his magnificent instrument. Would that we had such 3 exciting singers these days. Ernesto

Just before going out on Phantom, I got to do the Trovatore duet and Aida trio with Ms Galvany. What a great singer and colleague-she made a young and inexperienced baritone feel very comfortable. I was scared to death to be on stage with her at first, but she said "you're fine, let's go!". All was well. And to have Armen accompany was like having the orchestra with us...Listen to the crowd go crazy for these guys-all the best.

Harry Theyard , I talked to him on the phone tonight after 25 years, know he did not remember me but at 81 he still sounded the same. His beautiful wife also sounded the same. I wish them both much happiness.

It is always interesting to me that Galvany, unlike a lot of great divas, sings to her colleagues. One never feels she is disconnected from the relationships on stage. In short, she is always in character. That approach must have always fueled the dramatic potency of her protrayals.
