People don't credit Frank enough but he IS undoubtedly amongst some of the all time greatest submission specialist in MMA.

Frank Mir has a very good mechanical brain. These high level submissions take tons of intelligence and understanding of leverage and fulcrums. He invented this one lol

Facts. I submitted a mf in my class with this. I felt like the man
@holdenmuganda973 жыл бұрын
Well he said he just took it from an old Japanese jujitsu style but just did it on the ground. So not quite inventing but a new application
@christulloch34732 жыл бұрын
@@holdenmuganda97 I take the Ryan Hall approach that you can't "invent" a movement of the human body. But you can discover it or perfect that movement/Application. What Frank did is take a application from an often dismissed and ridiculed MA , that was often applied from an ineffective position standing and was a low percentage move and discovered a new way to apply it that made it 100x more effective. It's a great submission that works well Gi and No-Gi. I have had it used on me and I've used it a lot too.

with all the heavy shots he has taken to the head over the years i am surprised he is not rolling around in a wheel chair mumbling and drooling on himself, he is one tough dude

I call this the mir lock as that is the name that was taught to me some 12 years ago. I have since tapped many many guys from 280 kilo meat heads to the guy who originally showed me the lock over the years (multiple times to his shame). I also did it *standing* to a member of the French Judo team while judo sparring! Sadly, the rest of that sparring was me being throw HARD again and again : ( It is actually quite versatile because as frank states if you go for a omoplata and they resist, it opens up but also, if you go for a violin lock it opens up or if they resist the 'mir lock' a violin opens up. Thanks foe r giving many submissions on strong guys Frank.

great move, learned this in Jujitsu and it works . Funny thing is, when Frank Mir does this in guard its amazing. Jon Jones literally does the standing version on Teixeira it's considered dirty. Never understood how fans could celebrate one fighter on a technique then criticize another using the same move in a standing position. Fans really need to get to a gym and learn submissions.
