Stubb or Haavisto: Finnish voters to choose their new president | DW News

Voters in Finland are preparing to elect a new president. They are choosing between Alexander Stubb, an ex-prime minister from the centre right, and Pekko Haavisto, a green former foreign minister. They emerged as the two front-runners from the first round two weeks ago: Stubb got 27.2 percent of the votes, Haavisto reached 25.8 percent. Both of them centered their campaign largely around the security threat that is posed by the Nordic nation's neighbor Russia.

Yes there are only males and females and heterosexual, bisexual or homosexual(I can give you asexual if you never have felt anything for another person but there is a difference in not getting someone and never felt anything for someone, probably some internal blockage because the condition goes against our nature. We are still simple creatures that evolved to survive as a species and that includes reproduction, then if today's chemicals messes it up is a whole different story). No it should not matter what combination of those 5 "proven by science" you are. If you feel like something outside those options then it should matter because you are neglecting the fact that we humans have made up those words to describe the only options you can be is sick. "There are 2 types of chromosome, called the sex chromosomes, that determine the genetic sex of a baby. These are named either X or Y. Usually, a female baby has 2 X chromosomes (XX) and a male has 1 X and 1 Y (XY). But in Klinefelter syndrome, a boy is born with an extra copy of the X chromosome (XXY)." hetero- a combining form meaning “different,” “other,” The prefix “bi-” is a Latin prefix that means “two,” “twice,” or “double.” Homo is a Latin word that means man, or human. When it is used as a prefix, as in "homosexual," it comes from the Greek word homos, meaning the same. No I will not think anything else because in my world those options covers it all and I do not care about how you feel I care about I feel in the matter. I feel like those options describes all situations well enough. Saying anything else is like starting to add to animals if they "feel" something like a wet cow probably feel miserable so do I then have to call it a "mow"?

In Finland, none discussed nor cares to mention that one of the candidates is gay. Only in English speaking media is that brought up. Finnish people can't care for someone's sexuality, big cultural shock when I got here.

There were to two good candidates having wise similar view to main issues. (Russia etc). There were civilized discussions and focus on on own strengths instead of negative views on other. I am so glad that we have well working system and democracy here in Finland.

In reality, they are both former foreign ministers, although Stubb has also been the PM shortly, a bit less than a year in 2014-15.

Finland joining NATO requires someone with expert foreign policies. That is Haavisto and he has done good job.

@@naedot.9779 Less in foreign policy than Haavisto and none during the last 10 years. Quite enough to handle the job, though. I am not saying he is a bad candidate, just pointing out that he is more of the theory guy that has read an lectured on foreign policy, whereas Haavisto is the one that has ran the Finnish foreign policy with the President for the last 4 years, including the NATO process. I am fine with whichever gets elected, they are both good candidates.

At least Stubb talks 5 languages. Plus he can order beer with 10 more. Really, he does it. Finns talk famously Rally English (the term existing tells enough). Not Stubb, he is from our Swedish speaking minority.
