5:15 That's partially true when you add bigger rock you get more PSI but when you want extremely hard concrete you need to add basically really fine dust and fill all tiny spots in concrete meaning smaller that dust particle is then less there will be air cavities and concrete is much harder.

Been using a marshal trowel trying to be like uncle Kirk but didn't realize it was a full round edge swimming pool trowel till now. It does a nice job on the interior mud but I can't get myself to take my baby outside for stucco. I'm left handed and the thing works smooth as glass on a left edge but leaves tiny grooves on the right no matter how much I sand or sharpen that side. The next one I get, albeit smaller, is gonna be from your recommendations because I'm so tired of the dang thing rusting every time I put it away.

Howdy Beach house dude, you know what they say, life's a beach, then your trowel rust. after you use the trowel place it somewhere that stays dry, it won't rust. Or when finished using it, clean and dry it, it won't rust unless left in the misty and cold damp air. Or you can even spray some Wd 40 on it or any type of oil, it won't rust. If you try all this and it still rusts, it's bewitched.🍻

Concrete also has sand in it. While stucco can have lime added I’ve never seen lime added to concrete mixes, outside of say topping mix.

Thank you for all you videos. Could you do a video on shapes in plaster. In my town, at one time they used shaped cement blocks with sharply angled edges. And another that had a kind of dimpled surface. Are things like that possible in stucco. I can send pictures if you'd like. Again thank you for all you help and advice. Thanks Kirk, long story, this is a railroad town, and there used to be a massive cement plant here. Employees used to take any spilled concrete mix and they had a little concrete block cottage business in the area. Concrete plants long gone, but quite a few houses and allot of garages are made out of the shaped blocks they made. I love the look, and always wondered if I could stucco my home to look like the shaped blocks, I've seen your video on how to make it look like flat block, but these are shaped. The squared off ones are like a cement block with the face side having the edges with 44 angles. So is it possible to use stucco to make a faux block to look like that? Thanks again.

My truck holds them as prisoners until they are ready to do battle. 🍻 Seriously, I have many different trowels for different plastering situations or methods. If I were to explain what I use each trowel for, that would bore the crap out of the folks who watch us, what's that? Too late, exzackory. No doubt, you wouldn't be surprised to be surprised at how fast we either lose or misplace them or my truck eats them and uses them for fuel, who knows. 🤔🤷 It's better to have more than enough than not enough as I'm never sure if my whole family wants to work, I do also keep 6 tool belts for the same reason. Good morning Matt. Your election should push the box through whatever substrate to accommodate the stucco thickness. On homes, it's 7/8 on barbeques. Usually, about 1/2 or the rainwater will penetrate. Why a full radius trowel is not ideal for plastering ?

Good evening Omar, I'd take a full radius to a rectangle trowel any day, however, my trowel of choice is 5 inches wide and has straight ends with just the arks rounded. I have been known to use my shoe, so any trowel is better than a shoe. My trowel of choice is in the description and why.🤔

Afternoon Randy Dude, I'd recommend you prime his patch with Sherman Willaims Elastomeric. Sure, its 90 bucks a gallon where you can go to HD and pay 35 a gallon. However, theirs is sort of like rubber, and the longevity is second to none. Keep in mind Strutoc-lite has lime in it as well. It's not technically supposed to be used outside, but it is recommended in showers, bathroom, and kitchens where moister is an issue. Bottom line If it were me at your stage, I'd paint it with the primer I recommended if it were at my home. 😉 If one of my sons did this on a client's home, I have no choice but to remove and apply the correct plaster. stucco is Portland & masonry ? mixed together

Portland cement mixed with sand is called stucco. FYI, most stucco and concrete mixes use Portland cement as a binder, for example. Concrete is used for driveways, sidewalks, bridges, etc. Concrete mixes rocks with the Portland cement. Thus, they can’t be applied by hawk and trowel to any wall because of the rocks. Stucco combines fine sand with Portland cement, which can be applied to walls like a peanut butter consistency, with no rocks in it. Conclusion, Portland cement mixed with sand is called stucco. Portland cement mixed with rocks is called concrete. Kirk mann that's one big ol George foreman grill you put that waffle mix in and you let my waffles get hard brotha. Say, i saw a video where a gentleman bought a new magnesium trowel and he showed that you must break them in by oiling them , is this true? If so wow ! Doing a remodel of an old house and the roof leaked at one point and i swear i think they had the theory of it only leaks when it rains , so when i went to start peeling the chipping paint the whole ceiling wanted to peel so i floated about half the ceiling and i wobbly going out your point of trying to mix your own mud then mud hod work and it being hot from all the fires it was a 97 outside and about 100 inside and that's with no windows all windows had been pulled out for repairs. Good evening Guard duck dude. The only smoking around us is Gorilla Ganja. The myth that a hawk or trowel has to be broken is just that.🤔 I can take my trowel I have been using for more than 20 years and work the same mud with a brand new one, A hawk the same thing. 😏 Like when I worked with large plastering companies, there was always a wise-ass foreman who'd tell a new apprentice. Dude, go get us a plank stretcher, it's in the back of my truck, this plank board ain't long enough, the poor nervose kid would wander around for a while and come back and says, gee, what's it look like again, or I can't find it. All would laugh except the kid the joke was played on. It all a joke or a myth. Anyone is as good with a twenty-year-old trowel and or hawk as they would be with a new one. If both are clean. BTW, there is no such device that will stretch a plank. Scaffold planks are 12 feet long, period and cant be extended.
