We are getto g ready to renovate our kitchen of our 1927 house. The house ois stone with stucco over it and in so e areas the stucco has cracked and is allowing water to come in this messing with our Interior plaster walls. Prior to the re ovation I would like to fix these problems on the outside. I have watched a number of your videos and have learned a lot already, but wanted to make sure I get the job do e the first time! What product should I use to patch the stucco? Some of the areas are over window frames, is three anything different I need to do with those? As a quick fix I spayed foam to cover areas to get us through a storm, and then a couple years later came and I need to fix it....can I cut out the spray foam to under flush and out my finnish over it? Or should I dig out all of it and start from scratch? Thanks for all of your help! I look forward to hearing from you. If there is any way to attach pictures do you can see please let me know.

Kurt just curious do you ever get rid of brown coat on after you scratch or do you let it sit 3 to 5 or even 7 days? Just curious , reason why I'm saying is were using hydraulic lime plaster and it doesn't bind up nearly as fast as cement stucco
@captainmoretokin21722 жыл бұрын
Some guy asked me once he says where did you learn how to do that? I said from an old irish dude named Darby o Gillis. he fell for it.LOL
@davidgardner10674 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the great videos Kirk. I've learned a lot by watching you. I'm currently having my 1922 Spanish style bungalow home redone from the outside, reframing, and new plywood, lathe, and stucco. My house design is very square with clean lines/corners. I've noticed that the guy working on my house did a so so scratch coat job. It's not totally plumb in a lot of areas and pieces of the scratch coat crumble. If the brown coat were applied would that correct the imperfections? My house will have a smooth white coat finish. Thank you, David from Long Beach, CA
@StuccoPlastering4 жыл бұрын
Howdy David, the scratch coat is simply to embed the stucco netting. It does not have to be pretty. In fact, it can be applied ugly. With a smooth finish, the next coat is important, as the home will now have to be rodded true and level. As far as a crumbling scratch coat, when one uses a Scarifier/Scratcher, it does make many valleys and mountains. The tips of the so-called mountains/high points tend to be soft in some areas. For example, if you rub your hand against it hard, some of the sand mixed in with the Portland cement will rub off. This is normal. The brown coat will cover any imperfections. Here’s wishing you and yours a happy holiday season. From the entire plastering Giordano Family

Is there an advantage to spraying on your color coat finish (16/30) after you just applied by hand both trowel and floated ?
@StuccoPlastering4 жыл бұрын
Morning Christian, man, that's a trick question. To dash with a hand hopper takes more time covering that personally I can complete the finish faster. On the flip side, if one does not know how to plaster then give walls afloat or sand finish, shooting it on might be a plus. But I doubt it as similar skills are still needed that are only obtained by practice.🍻 Happy holidays to all our subscribers and others who stumble on our channel. Kirk I have a question, on one coat stucco it calls for the base to be 3/8” to 1/2” thick but can I put it thicker 5/8” or even 3/4” without any issues?
@StuccoPlastering3 жыл бұрын
Evening William, of course, you can. As a rule, a three-coat system should be 7/8 of an inch thick. What happens if it's too thick or thin? Nothing. As long as all the grounds are full or flush, your good.😉 The grounds means windows or door jambs either flush or held back a quarter inch depending on the style, the weep screed filled out and not left hollow, and so on. Good morning MG, they are indeed travertine, held on with Siakaflex 1A polyurethane caulking. Lots of love and happy holidays. What happens if u don’t let the brown coat scratch coat dry for 28 days before acrylic application? What if it’s just a week ?
@StuccoPlastering3 жыл бұрын
Good evening Phuong, excellent question.🤔 That's a cardinal sin. The wall can explode. Kidding. 😀 If one paints too soon before the new stucco's ph level neutralizes properly, the primer can blister or won't achieve the best bond. Does everyone wait or care? No, an example, we plastered a Starbucks coffee shop a few years ago. I drove by it the day after we applied the brown coat to get breakfast next door. The whole job was primed and painted. As the contractor was there, I walked over and said, you know, my friend, it would have been in your best interest to wait until the stucco cured. The moral to this story for the paint's longevity, one should wait at least two weeks unless you are going to be fired for not making a timeframe to open a business.😉 He looked at me and screamed I have a deadline. You worry about your job, I'll worry about mine. I was a bit shocked, so I said, "sorry, I exploded," and walked away.😉 Our unique plastering Tip: all subscribers or anyone who stumbles on our channel with a question, type it into our Stucco/Plastering channel, and like magic, a video will appear to explain how it's done. Hi, I send you an email and a text message (hopefully was the correct phone number). I need help... My crew left the brown coat to a point the wall has large lumps and low spots. Can we apply a second coat of brown to straighten the wall? I wanted to apply Omega Acrylic finish with a extremely dark color. Contractor wanted to apply finish coat on top of brown within a week without primer at all?? Please contact me.

Evening Karla, another base coat won't help much as the sand shows and makes a gritty finish. Fear not, Kirk's advice is golden. Go to home depot and buy some bags of Greencore USA.stucco has fine sand; simply skim the high or low spots.😉 Or skim those areas with a finish coat such as La Habars medium finish 20/30. This way, the large grains of sand don't screw you guys up for the finish coat, Cheers. Have your best guy do the feathering in, as this is for the man who has at least 5 years of troweling under his belt. Kirk ,I always forget to ask you ,if you know Jesus ,just thought I'd throw that out there , there reason why I ask is that he has blessed you and Jason with an AWESOME gift , I have that same gift , anyways here's my question 1) would you rather do EIFS , STUCCO ( HARDCOAT) ,OR NHL (NON- HYDRAULIC LIME PLASTER) LIME PLASTER ? THIS IS A QUESTION FOR JASON AS WELL HILLBILLY 🙏✌️👍

Howdy Rusty, yes we are blessed and realize this, We have our ups and downs like every soul on this planet. We sometimes bend like a tree and touch the ground, but rarely break, as we are indeed blessed with a mind that manages to see the glass as half full. My kids and I would rather/prefer to climb the mountain than being transported by helicopter, anyday. I believe and pray to infinite intelligence. What folks name this creator is their personal business. As far as work, I like variety. I'm a plasterer and can apply stucco all day. This is my preference. @@rustymckenzie6252 Morning Rusty, so sorry, brother. I have been through hell in the last 5 years, fell so many times but always created the will to get back up and walk. However, if any of my kids got hurt seriously like that, I'd hang it up as doubtful I could continue work through that kind of pain. Happy holidays, brother.

Morning Rusty, sorry dude, I don't watch TV, so no clue how bad tv claims stuff to be. There are more homeless than I've seen in my life, which gives me a heavy heart. But things like riot or uprising, I don't see that. Besides, I'm one of the 98% of those trying to make a living, so any riots never involve a poor but strong man trying to make a living. Tell em what happens when it keeps coming down on ya. I'll tell em for you. 90%of the time ,,,they will run your butt off. oh yeah, and if a homeowner wants to help tell em it'll cost more on the final bill, that brings out the supervisor work gloves in a hurry. whats supervisor work gloves ? them standing back with their hands in their pockets. all kidding aside. don't be rude to your customers. I let them get dirty for a little bit if they want to.
