Malin is an accomplished chef and should think about publishing a cookbook of traditional Swedish goodies, and of the cuisine of countries you've visited. And also how to provision a boat like Ran 11 for an extended ocean crossing. Bound to be a best seller!

I love your Swedish Semlor day... and the traditional food you eat... In the UK we call it Shrove Tuesday and we eat pancakes... which we flip over in the pan... Its called tossing the pancake... I like to eat them with sugar and fresh lemon juice on the top... Another lovely episode which was full of interest... Take good care and keep warm...

Greetings from the other side of the Øresund. Yes ice wasn't really what we expected either. First time in 10 years up here. As you mentioned, external rudders could be an issue and mine has 2 of them ,so next winter I'll surely install install a de-icer that pumps the warm water up from the ground and keeps me sleeping with less sorrows..... So far luckily the only damage seems to be a bit of antifouling scrapped off from the waterline in first days with the ice where there was 12-14 m/s easterly wind here. Now rthe ice slowly melts away. Spring is coming! PS I recall having seen you with Adam and Camilla in a video on the Duesseldorf boat show. I took over their old HR312 some years ago and they helped out with many good tips.... The world is small. Since last summer it's a newer HR though and their old HR312 moved up to northern Sjælland.

Hey guys! Love your vids for years now. I’m a full time liveaboard in Hamilton, Ontario (RHYC). There are 10 boats here and we each have our own bubbler, they work great to keep a large swath of open water. Here’s an “Ice Hack”: get a bag of salt (for sidewalks and such) and throw it around the hull. Works great in a pinch. Hope you guys stay warm! Cheers!

Another great film! Watching you climb off the bow with your lifeline wires reminded me so much of my two season trip to the Baltic about five years ago! The Scandinavian way of boarding on the bow is unusual for me from the UK and took some amusing days to get familiar with I had to rig a fender-step to help with the climb!. It is fine after a while but still oddly, for such a fantastically practical society, impractical way of boarding in my experience particularly on a sailing yacht with all the foresail gear to work around. I had to load a six man life raft in cannister once and it was a hugely challenging task at the bow even with two of us. But it is a truly beautiful area to sail and I am glad you are filming it for the KZbin world to see!

Enjoyed, you got me reminiscing on my navy days ,on a usn submarine on a duty day one of our tasks was to bring on water every morning top off about a 1000 gal depending on how much the sonar techs would shower ,we generally did this alone ,one of the problems was the pier water psi was higher than the relief valve installed in the ships system, it was a balance of timing and knowledge to get it right ,if you failed the stakes were high ,the relief valve dumped above the captain's state room, never a good outcome

I've seen people use aerators placed under the hull in the winter to keep the ice from forming next to the hull. This was on lake Ontario in Toronto. I think it stops the water from freezing because it keeps it moving. I'm not sure what kind of aerator but maybe something you'd use for a koi pond in the winter would work? Maybe you need more than one but I think they should not be too expensive. You could hang it at any depth you want and center it by using two strings tied to either side of the boat and the aerator stone(?).

Look into "ice eaters" for keeping open water around your boat. They are basically a small trolling motor that hangs under the boat and pushes deeper water upward and prevents icing.
