I found driving in the Sahara and Kalahari deserts that reducing the tyre pressure works wonders if stuck in sand. The tyre squelches over a bigger area and the pressure on the grains of sand is equal to the air pressure in the tyre. Drop the pressure from 35 to 15 psi (less than half) does it. Scoop away the mound of sand in front of the tyres and drive straight out. No problem.

a tip for getting your car/van out of the sand is to put the foot mats in front and under the wheels for grip.

silly Louis you're suppose to lower the tire pressure before you can drive on the sand and then pump them back up when you wanna get on the road, if they allow you to drive on the beach then they should have air tire pumps available.
