It’s a pita but u should always air down in deep sand & never leave the load bars on while towing off pavement, it just transfers more weight back to the trailer instead of your Sequoias rear axle, and you may even bend something.

Guy brings a KOA camper into the woods on ORV trails without scouting and thinks anything other than this would happen? It isnt just a U.P. sand problem, that's a mentality problem. Its the reason we end up with trails closed and camping limited to paved parks. I love your itch to get out with the family. But, do it right, for everyone's sake.

Whoever told you that you could drag a camper through the U.P. is not your friend. Most folks that head up north have well-equipped off grid cabins, and those that do go camping up that way have specialized rigs for navigating the terrain, or use tents. Personally, given the wild life up that way, I'd look for a cabin to rent if you decide to head back up. Glad you made it out though.

No such thing as going slow in sugar sand. Pulling a camper forget it.
@captseamus6 ай бұрын
The whole state of lower michigan, western and northern is sand. Some places have deep sugar sand. The hills you see in those areas are mostly ions of sand from the Great Lakes blown with the winds. I live in Crawford County, Michigan and a backhoe dug a hole for burying tree branches. The backhoe dug 15ft deep, nothing but pure beach sand. I offtrail most of the time and its 90% sand TWO TRACKERS and ORV ROUTES. 4 Wheel drives work most of the time but 4x4 with lockers and a front winch is a must in some spots... I suggest before to pull your trailer up a trail you drive it first without the trailer. Most Towing Companies won't go offroad for recoveries and many insurance companies won't cover you unless you're on a County or driveable road. I have a Michigan legal highway Rzr which has full highway insurance (except Interstates) but no tow recovery offroad insurance... Glad you made it out..

@@captseamus a lot of people say walk it or drive it first without the trailer. If you ever traveled for an extended period of time, or full time for 2 years in our case, you know that’s just not feasible. Sure, I’ve had to back up for a mile down a trailer before with the camper, or have to go and extra couple miles down a trail just to find a turn around spot. But it is what it is. I’ve done this in 45 states and never not once had to call rescue or not been able to find a way out of the situation.

Nice! How is the sequoia towing that camper? It looks like it pulls it pretty easy. Is it hard on your transmission? Do you feel the vehicle move in heavy wind ? I debating buying either a tundra or sequoia as a tow vehicle and have heard the tundra is better due to longer wheelbase, but i still really like the sequoia
@sunshine_state_sequoia Жыл бұрын
It does just fine. We have pulled it through 43 states with the sequoia! I wouldn’t want to tow anything much heavier than what we have but it does good. I don’t feel much effects from the wind considering we have sway and weight distribution bars on the camper hitch, witch I would 100% recommend regardless of what vehicle you tow with

Some camping isn't free... DNR and Forest Rangers require PERMITS in State and National Parks and Forests. Most are free permits. They allow two weeks camping then you have to move to another Park or Forest areas. Sign in at the DNR Office and they will give you a permit which to post at your camp site. Its a law.
