Little history lesson: Fires were one of the more common cause of casualties on submarines. At extreme depths, malfunctions in the subs would often result in fires within the sub. Imagine, being trapped in a submarine, under extreme pressures, and you have a fire raging within the metal tube you're in. I couldn't imagine the amount of hopelessness you would feel. Fun fact; the iron lung is also tho name of a machine used to assist people who couldn't breathe because of polio, a disease that paralyzed a large portion of the human body, it's close to being completely eradicated. In short, the iron long was a name of a machine that helped paralyzed people breathe.

6:45 lemme correct u on that: pirates DID have submarines, in 1775 the 'turtle' or 'the american turtle' was the first militairy (but pirates also stole some later on ofc) submarine (officially a submersible). it was a one-man cranked acorn shaped submarine which would go underwater and towards a ship, then they'd drill a hole under the waterline of the ship which would flood the ship and if crew notice it fast enough they'd lose manpower on the cannons and sails because they're fixing the hole. eventually leading to 25% of the crew leaving their station and would be overpowerd by their foe.
