I got one and i was really surprised on how hard the Bass hits !!! I didnt expect that at all !!! Sound quality is amazing!!!❤ makes the other studabakers sound like alarm clock radio's 😂

Thanx for posting this! I have a few questions: What was the cassette recorder / player you used? Can it record from the boombox? Whatvwas the record player you used? Am very interested in these as i livr in a towable trailer that has a bluetooth system installed bu when travelling, i obviously can’t remove that from the trailer and like to go outside and listen to music away from the trailer.

I've been waiting so long for someone to finally do a review on this boombox. I've been thinking about purchasing this for a while, but I've always been undecided, due to the lack of reviews, besides seeing them on QVC and HSN. The problem with them is that they are paid to say all the positives about a product to sell it, but someone buying this with their own money will give a honest review about the product. Long story short, I'm thinking about actually purchasing this one for myself , thanks to watching your review. Great job on the demonstration of this boombox Record-ology 👌🏾

I really enjoy your videos. For the model with the VU meters, can you set the levels using the VU meters when recording cassettes? I had a really nice Aiwa boom box in the early 80s that had feather touch controls and dolby noise reduction and analog VU meters. Thanks for the memories.

My first music system was a portable mono Philips tape deck with radio. I was given it around the age of 9, i am 49 now and still have it and it still works.

A handsome radio, and as hollow handles bother the heck out of me, I appreciate that. Seems to sound nice. Is there a way to leave the dial light on but have the lightshow off? Also, did you check if the tweeters are functional? On many of these radios they're decorative. I see on the Studebaker site it's listed as a "3 speaker system," which only increases my concern.

Amazon suggests you should pair batteries with this. Amazon knows what's up, you need to have batteries you can actually add and remove for a boombox. ;) Great video man, looks like a cool device and at the price, it seems like a good deal.

Is it a normal CD player, or bufferred? Like if you play Abbey Road, does it pkay the medley okay, or does it spin up, read each song, then spit it back out??

I think they all buffer to ram now. Some you can turn that (anti skip) off and it becomes 1:1.

Well about a month later after me finally deciding to purchase this boombox, I now have to return it, because it crapped out on me, only having it for about 3 weeks. I'm so disappointed, because I was absolutely loving the sound quality that this boombox can push out for the size. The lows were really full and punchy with very clean highs. Today I decided that I wanted to play some music on it , just to experience only the speaker lights coming on solid without any other signs of life from the boombox. The FM tuner is dead , CD player is dead and the Bluetooth functions are totally unresponsive. This is the second Studebaker boombox that I've purchased over the last couple of years. The first one that I purchased was the Sound Station version with the cassette player and that one was also defective, being the CD player only played through the left speaker and the cassette deck would eat tapes from time to time, which made me stop using it all together. Now I'm back to using my old Sony HCD - Z x 9 that works perfectly fine considering its age. I wanted something more portable with deep rich sound, which is why I bought this boombox , I've gotten burned twice with this brand and I probably will not be buying anything from Studebaker anytime soon. Hopefully you are having better luck with your boomboxes than what I had with both of mine. Great video as always. Keep up the good work. 👍

Good to hear this boombox includes a little function with its form! Would’ve been neat if it actually borrowed some styling cues from the real Avanti (the car that tried to save Studebaker!) As a lover of all things retro, you may find the story of the car’s designer- Raymond Loewy- interesting. He also designed Coca-Cola’s iconic bottle. I think I need to ask for some of your 45 adapters as a Father’s Day gift🤔😉!

That's neat and many years ago, I saw Avanti cars on display by their owners as part of a 3,000-classic car show in London, Ontario, Canada. Adam West, Julie Newmar, George Barriss (designer of the original Batmobile, etc.), much of the cast of George Lucas' 'American Graffiti', and cast members of 'The Dukes of Hazzard' (as well as a number of General Lee cars) were special guests at those annual car shows. :)

I get seizures. Flashing lights, disco balls and even houndstooth patterns on fabrics can trigger an onset. I'm glad that you put up a strobe warning when you test speed accuracy.

Yes it will. It goes in order, CD>USB>aux.

Hi Record-ology, concerning the volume control thing: as far as I know, the volume control is no real potentiometer when you can turn the control forever in one direction. For example on the Victrola Revolution Go: even if the volume is at maximum or minimum, you still can turn the volume control towards maximum or minimum. So it is no real potentiometer on that one. If it was a real potentiometer, you would not be able to turn it towards maximum if the volume is at maximum and the same for minimum.

There's no AM radio because it has Bluetooth. The Bluetooth signal jams AM reception. It doesn't affect FM reception.

Hmmmm interesting. Bt uses 2400 to 2483.5 MHz so you wouldnt think it would impede AM bands.

Sorry if this reply is long, but to me a boombox is only a boombox if it plays audio directly from whatever storage medium you insert directly into it. CD, cassette, SD cards, flash drives, whatever. And of course it could also play radio. That is truly what I like about boomboxes... they act as entirely standalone music players that directly accept some kind of storage medium. This is unlike bluetooth speakers, which literally depend on a separate electronic device to trigger them, and that separate device itself has to be the thing that contains the storage medium. Adding to this, the main purpose of connecting a bluetooth speaker to your cell phone or mp3 player is to get bigger, better sound compared to the built-in speakers on that cell phone or mp3 player. The beauty of boomboxes is that, as a standalone music player that you insert a storage medium directly into (just like you would with a cell phone or mp3 player), they already have a big, full-bodied sound on their own because of their big built-in speakers, like the kind of sound you might get on a bluetooth speaker, so that there's absolutely no need to connect it to external speakers just to get that big sound. I guess in modern terms, it is perhaps a good idea to think of a boombox as essentially a ridiculously oversized standalone "mp3 player" with huge built-in speakers with big sound, as opposed to the tiny speakers on the more typical miniaturized mp3 players that are literally just tweeters basically, with no real bass. I guess my overall point is that, if you have big speakers that are just receiving signals from another electronic device with a storage medium (that's what bluetooth speakers are literally doing), then that's not really a boombox at all. A true boombox directly accepts audio from a storage medium you insert directly into it. Does that make sense?

The price point on this brands not for me flashy stuff is out I'm a epileptic i like my Jenson MCR 1500 it does take batteries no bt but i don't need bt have on other things but 24 watt speaker and double cassette 99 on Amazon but this is cool looking cd too I'm loving sound has a bass boost

Hmmm, I don't know..... It looks very plastic and the dial is the same as other made in china bb's. I really don't like the stupid annoying flashing lights, it would be nice if there was also a "solid" ON mode. Love to see the inside, I guess it all made with of the shelf made parts. I think this unit is a good start to make some mods, for example an alluminium dial plate, changing the dial needle, removing the tweeter lights, adding some grills or fabric to the tweeters, adding alluminium knobs. But actually I don't think this is a quality unit and not worth the purchase.

Studebaker was an auto manufacturer. Not audio. Some Chinese companies are just using what ever US company names they can get their grubby hands on without even checking to see what they actually made. What's next? An Edsel boombox? 🙄

It's an homage to Studebaker's classic cars. There's nothing wrong with that given that Studebaker doesn't make cars anymore (Not since 1966), although, I don't think the Avanti is a particularly beautiful sportscar; not compared to other classic or current sportscars. It's a bit of an oddity car-wise.
