Hi,may I know whats the meaning of associate actuaries
@MJtheFellowActuary6 жыл бұрын
An associate has passed the technical exams but hasn't passed the specialist exams
@denz3107 жыл бұрын
I am not done with school. However, I had my associate. I was told you have to be finish with your bachelor before you even start the exams. Is that true, and if not, where can I get started to take the 1st 11 exams. At least the 1st 8 ones

Will I be held accounted if I don't pass an exam? If I pass it the second time or the third time I take it, will companies know I failed at my first attempt and will it reduce my chances of getting a job? Please answer if you know. Thank you!!
@MJtheFellowActuary9 жыл бұрын
I don't think it matters how many attempts you take to pass an exam. most companies won't hold it against you if you only pass on your 3rd attempt. but I'm not 100% sure of this.

+paulakiara luna I did some more research. The only downside for failing is that you get less study leave for that subject from work.

@CFMARAIS887 жыл бұрын
MJ the Student Actuary you cannot say something like that... Seriously, I'm a senior actuary and I will never ever tell someone to do actuarial science only because they like maths. Career advice is not to be given lightly. So here is the truth: Megha, first find out what branch of actuarial science you find most interesting, do research on this and pick one - once you know the route you are interested in, find an actuary who is specialized in this field and speak to him/her. It is crucial to do this, with all my work experience, I rarely have to do "real math" I haven't calculated a single integral for the past 3 years. So no, being good at math does not equate to liking actuarial science as a career. Be very careful when making this decision, it will last for 40-45 years. And yes, studying actuarial science is really tough, so it is not to be taken lightly and to suggest something like "you will enjoy it" is absurd.

Do u recommend me taking further math in alevel? I heard that its difficult and just afraid i might not do well.
@MJtheFellowActuary9 жыл бұрын
Amelia Ann Yeah the more maths you can do, the better. Maths is good for your mind. It will also help with some of the actuarial courses later.

@MJtheFellowActuary9 жыл бұрын
***** You can graduate with a degree in Maths. You can then write the Actuarial Exams while working or get some exemptions by doing a post grad course.

hi I'm from South Africa and I'm currently doing a triple Major in Maths,Applied Maths and Statistics ..I want to be an Actuary(fellowship) ,please tell me whats gonna happen after my BSc degree...Am I suppose to start from the bottom?(like doing 1st year courses for actuarial sciences?) since I never Did any economics and accounting in my entire life.
@MJtheFellowActuary9 жыл бұрын
+Thembalethu The Curse If you want to become an Actuary, I would recommend taking some of the actuarial subjects at university like Economics 1, Accounting 1, Financial Maths, Life Contingencies, etc. You only need 2 years of maths. The statistics will help. But yeah you can get some exemptions from the actuarial exams if you do them as subjects in university and get high enough marks. Otherwise you will have to write each one individually when you get out of varsity. What university are you at?

please tell me, I have just done my bachelors in business administration from Nepal and I want to do an acturial science. Do I need GMAT or any other tests for this? and could you please list out all the requirements that I need for acturial? I visited the related sites and they mentioned that 2 credits of calculus classes and others classes had to be completed in bachelors level. Is that so? otherwise I can't apply for acturial. thank you
@MJtheFellowActuary8 жыл бұрын
which actuarial society are you applying for? most will require a mathematical background.
@pralhadghimire17138 жыл бұрын
+MJ the Student Actuary : I am not from the mathematics background but I am from business management. It means I don't get to do acturies, is it so? I don't know much more about it. Are acturies of many types? if you have no problem, could you please tell me more about it? thank you
@fickleoperation8 жыл бұрын
If you can pass exams, you can be an actuary. As long as you're willing to study and apply yourself, you can do it. I'd suggest taking the financial exams first, since you'll have less to learn (only basic calculus in addition to finance), but you'll need to teach yourself the equivalent of about 2 years calculus and whatever each exam's syllabus contains to get through them all.

May I know what are the possible careers for degree in actuarial science ?
@MJtheFellowActuary9 жыл бұрын
Amelia Ann There are the traditional actuarial roles such as working for an insurance company or managing pensions. You could also work for a bank or an investment company. You could also work for the government and assist with demographic and population studies. You can work in any scientific field as you will know how to build models and analyse data. You can become a Chief Risk Officer for any organisation as you will understand uncertainty better than other professions. With Actuarial Science, you can do anything.

+MJ the Student Actuary 6 Years including university or after graduating? I'm currently doing Math, Further Math, Bio and Chem at A Levels. I have not done economics, will that be a disadvantage?
@MJtheFellowActuary8 жыл бұрын
TheYash324 I've done 4 years at university and am now in my 3rd year of working. So 7 years in total. Na economics is easy enough to pick up at university. There are also lots of resources for that subject so you won't struggle with it too much
