It's that time of year at Stellenbosch University - election season is here! The Student Electoral Commission is in full swing, making sure you have a say in who represents you on the next Students' Representative Council (SRC) for 2024/2025.
Dr. Choice Makhetha, Senior Director: Division Student Affairs (DSAf), calls on all students who are passionate about shaping campus life to step up and make a difference, or participate in the elections by casting your vote.
Remember, student representation isn’t just a nice-to-have - it’s required by law in South Africa, thanks to the Higher Education Act 101 of 1997. This Act is also a core part of Stellenbosch University’s (SU) foundation. In this video, Dr. Makhetha explains why your voice and #YourVoteMatters in the decision-making process at SU. You’re not just here to study; you’re here to grow, contribute, and make an impact.
Curious about what the SRC does and how it all fits into the bigger picture at DSAf? Dr. Makhetha breaks it all down in this video, showing you how the SRC, and the Unit for Student Governance within the Centre for Student Life and Learning are geared towards supporting student leaders like you.
If you’ve attended one of the seven caucuses across the Stellenbosch, Tygerberg, and Saldanha campuses, you're probably buzzing with excitement to vote. Now it’s time to take that energy to the polls and vote for the candidates who will make your voice heard on the SRC and by top university governance structures.
