Amen to that!!! I am from out of province and have been paying double what these suckers pay for 4 years, I have no idea where the sense of entitlement comes from. They would pay Canadian fees if they went anywhere else and additionally no other province offers special rates for local students. It is screwed up. $300 something a year is like a week of work. I am sick of these people devaluing my education.

2006-2007 = cost of education was 2206$ 2011-2012 = cost of education was 2890$ for 2016-2017 the government wants 4700$ There's a lack of management with our money ... its not going to the right places and students are fighting for better management of that money. They dont want to pay more ... instead they want the government to step up and manage the money we give more carefully.

if it was 27 per month, I don't think we would protest. It is in fact 1625$ over five year, so yeah, 27 per month for the FIRST YEAR but an INCREASE of 135 per month at the 5th year (for the next generation) this is over 75% increase. Get your facts right! And while having the strike, many of us have more time in our part-time job. Look here in Quebec we stand up for our values.

You should compare more statistics than only the tutions fees. For example, our taxes in quebec are much higher than in the rest of the Canada so it is normal that some of our public fees should be a lower at least a little bit. In addition, we want an accessible education. In fact, in Quebec, the percentage of students from low income family is way ahead of the canadian average. We handle more post-highschool diploma/yr than the canadian average and we want to keep it that way.

It is true that in comparison with the rest of Canada and USA, Quebec's fees are quite affordable. But why should we compare ourselves with the worst when we can compare with the bests! Those many European countries where university studies are free (e.g. Denmark where the government PAYS you 3800$ a semester just for attending university.. and it is free of course) By increasing the cost of the study it will reduce access to superior studies for a large part of the population who can't afford

Unfortunately, Mr.Charest doesn't seem to see it the same way =/. According to him, we should try to reach the Canadian average as much as possible (for fees), which isn't very clever on his part. I agree with you entirely, it would seem logical that lower public fees should be applied when the populace pays higher tax rates...though I honestly doubt logic shall ever come into play in politics at all >_

I hate to play on the other side, but what I don't understand is this. In order to have free post secondary education, taxes need to be raised right? How much are we paying in tax already for all the drop-outs and poor performing students? What do you feel about making it into the workforce and paying an extra 2 or 3 % or more from your salary to fund "free education." I surely would rather pay less taxes for the duration of my life than save $2000 over 3 years or whatever it may be.

I just hope one day those cops will ask themselves why they're standing there, what they're protecting and who they're fighting for. In the end, shouldn't they be protesting to? I think they would find themselves more alike the protesters than anyone else they're working for. Would be damn funny though if all the protesters had the same protective outfit as the cops. Same type of organizing and communication. Non-violent of course.

Well to be fair, this attack should be directed towards the " little bourgeois' ", aka those who can afford these new tuition hikes but merely refuse to bear them. They do however represent a minority of the student body, as I know many students who struggle with the current state of affairs as it is. So to say it to those who struggle is completely ridiculous, and your example with the price of gas is very well put. Education is a necessity, one cannot simply cut back on them.

If any of you current students showed an ounce of work ethic, could instill confidence that you wouldn't just pisss away the money, that you would in fact get all A's in your studies, then by all means...let's subsidize your education. Sadly this is not the case, if your tuition was actually FREE, I sincerely think you would cave under the pressure of achieving greatness (A's in everything) and you would simply find another reason to protest. It's in your generation's blood. Just get to work!

Absolutely, disgustingly pathetic!!! I paid over 40% MORE tuition out west...15years ago!!!! It is absurd that these spoiled, entitled, lazy students actually protest tuition fees in Quebec today?!?!?! It is one of the areas of the Quebec budget that drastically needs to be changed. Tuition fees are nowhere near high enough and nowhere near competitive with the other provinces. It is very sad, because with that type of work ethic, these kids will not get jobs anyway.

You've clearly missed the point. I don't care what I paid, I'm saying these kids are entitlement junkies today who think everything is owed to them. Their work ethic is the fundamental underlying problem in all of this. If you must know "my problem", I went to school for 5yrs, including summers, worked a part time job, and played two varisty sports, thus obtaining more scholarships than the cost of my tuition. Was it free? Or did I work my ass off for that? Just walk behind...I'll lead you...
