But the few of us have a big responsibility: we need to reach out to the youth around us in whatever way possible and never give up to call them to the divine message! if we don't then someone else is always calling them towards astray and making powerful outreach to misguide them! نسأل الله السلامة والعافية

Interesting discussion! I'm impressed at how much Mohammed Hijab has read and how well he understands these theories, and you two do a great job asking questions. Not an easy task. Not a Muslim (yet. I'm studying) but this guy makes great, logical points. I used to identify as a liberal feminist, but that philosophy is so empty. I think there would be no greater privilege or work I could do than to take care of my (hopefully future) children. And for me, something therapeutic is baking. It's just focusing on the dough, and not all the other wild thoughts in my head. Bonus that it can be shared with family afterwards 😊 Sorry for the extremely long comment haha

For those unaware of Hijab, he is a well informed, knowledgable muslim speaker, who i have been following for years, starting with the Speakers Corners video’s. He is most definitely a good source for information and has debated many people in a formal or informal setting. He’s putting in the work for the muslim community in the UK with people like Ali Dawah who have grown significantly with their social media platform and who are reaching many youthful muslims with socially relevant topics. I’d also have to give mention to the SCDawah and the EFDawah KZbin dawah channels who are doing a great job. Others mentions for muslims who want to educate themselves are Shamsi (Dus Dawah channel) and Shabir Yusuf from the alltruthrevealed channel. Other references to expand your database of knowledge are speakers like Abdullah Andulusi, Adnan Rashid, Shabir Ally. I’m sure i forgot other names. The names i mentioned, i have been following them for years now. I used to be a christian and through the debates i eventually came to a conclusion that the christian theology is more blind belief then actual logic. After a journey myself i became a muslim years ago and i can honestly say that has been the best decision i ever made. I wasnt aware of this channel, but know i am, i live in the Netherlands too so i can understand both english and dutch, so @Islamitische studentenvereniging, zet het goede werk voort. In deze tijd van de social media, is online uitwisseling van informatie een krachtige medium geworden, waar wij als moslimgemeenschap gebruik van moeten maken, met de correcte en oprechte intenties uiteraard. EDIT: the channels and names i referenced are not only for muslims, they are for people of all background who want to learn and educate themselves sincerely.

@8:37 In our Evolution Unit (I live in the USA) , the teacher was also trying to undermine religion with the theory of evolution. It’s true @10:14 this seems true according to experience and many others too, not only for Muslim teachers but any teacher that’s religious. My math teacher is a strong believer in Christianity and he says it to the class. And whatever he says about the Slope formula won’t change my faith. But my science and history teacher give off some real athiest vibes. And whatever they say about history and science can have an effect on someone’s faith. They look “neutral” but they are actually saying some things of their belief and they speak as if religion is wrong.

A general comment. If you're in a non-western country; many of us non muslims in the west are actually quite conservative. We have no truck with feminism and really believe in the traditional family and spirituality over capitalism. But we are not very vocal and maybe we should be. We do have common ground in many respects to non-theocratic muslims. Where we differ is we have an unwavering committment to secularism and the individual right to believe and follow their own spirituality. Which is why we are pretty concerned about what seems to be happening in china to muslims. But in the other direction we are concerned about the religious police in places like iran.
@أمالياأفندي
@أمالياأفندي 5 жыл бұрын
as Mohammad Hijab pointed out Muslims are about 2 billions, if a country like Iran who actually doesn't represent mainstream Islam chose to have religious police ,which i don't know about for sure ,it is unfair to generalize this about Islam.

To both voice my and Mohammed Hijab's opinion on the actions of Muslim countries: There is no way we can defend the actions of every Muslim, nor _should_ we. Muslims are fallible. Islam, on the other hand, is not! Islam (inc. the actions of the Prophet PBUH) protect the individual's right to practice their religion in peace, the charter of rights drafted by the Prophet PBUH for religious minorities is proof of that, and there are several Surahs in the Qur'an that support the same. So many Iranian shenanigans and Chinese shenanigans are not at all justified in the Islamic worldview, theologically AND theocratically (i.e. on a political level, the Muslim world today is doing plenty that contradicts the claim that the countries follow "Islamic" models).

@@ayyylmao101 Appreciate the time in you replying to me. I guess I understand the principle that ideals can be perfect and humans are not. I would contend that no ideal is in fact perfect (not even cherished religious ones, and not even secularism.. or any other isms..) and that we are constantly updating these ideas based on how they worked and how they didn't. Not trying to be inflammatory. Just that the idea of a 'perfect ideal' of anything is not something that really fits into my understanding of reality. Even the most correct-seeming scientific theory can still be disproven or improved on in principle in my understanding of the world
@THICCfaccts
@THICCfaccts 4 жыл бұрын
@VoicesofSilicon Hello there, I understand your thoughts on a perfect ideal not being possible, i.e. Scientific theories. Muslims say that Islam is perfect, because Islam comes from an unlimited allknowing allmighty entity, which is God. And it is impossible for this allmighty entity to make mistakes because He knows everything, whereas scientific theories are based on humans brain capacity, which in fact is limited. That's why Islam is and always will be up to date.
@voicesofsilicon2445
@voicesofsilicon2445 4 жыл бұрын
@@THICCfaccts Thanks for taking the time to address my comment. I guess my argument against that is "How do you know that Islam is perfect and comes from God" and "How do you know that it is impossible for the almighty to make mistakes?" If the only argument is the book itself, then isn't that a circular argument? Couldn't anyone write a book that says that it is itself perfect?

I am impressed with this podcast and the two hosts. I can't understand many other episodes but I am happy, none the less, for all that can. Great job! And Mohammed Hijab, as always, a very good listen. The only thing I would love to ask more about is the concept of democracy. I myself am more of an enlightened dictatorship type, as awful as it might sound on its own XD, the key word is enlightened ( and the definition of that would be, in line with truth and justice ), the leader would need to have the final word, he would need to lead, instead of being lead by the masses through the democratic process. Democracy leads to dispersed responsibility- no one actually taking and carrying any responsibility. Therefore, you remove one bad character, and the system remains without any change - democracy - rule of average, rule of the uninterested, subjugation of the exceptional minority to the mediocre majority, the stopper of progress, the superficial popularity contest, definitely not the best of solutions. Were any of the prophets, peace be upon them all, democratic? Not really. They were either kings, or just rulers with absolute authority. (Of course they had close trustworthy people by their side, no question about it) Holding firmly on to this democracy idol is slowing down progress, especially today... with tyrannic mega powerful organizations and institutions like the IMF, NATO, the EU, the private media - acquiring so much power through censorship, selectively restrictive policies, manipulations of public opinion... democracy is perfect for maintaining a broken system. We can find many flaws in it, but we still hold it as the ultimate thing - when we could be trying to figure out what might be a better form of rule. I don't see democracy as this... super cool, modern day, civilized way... I actually see it as quite primitive. And the only reason, I think most other people don't, is because it is kind of being programmed into us. Anything other than democracy is being presented as barbaric, and history shows that is not necessarily so. Especially Islamic history in my understanding. Would love to hear more thoughts on this. Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

Wow , that is new . A European girl asking about democracy vs a dictator regime . If i have to answer , if i should answer , i would say donot bother urself with the regime or the mechanism of action of governments or the powers working in ur society . Better to governize ur life , ur family and ur beloved ones according to what allah ordered us to do . Mom is one then dad is two then ur kids and so on . Enough for us is our judgement on our actions and on the people we r responsible for . A dictator can be crazy or psychopathic . A democracy makes the voice of a bitch or a corrupted man like the voice of a schoolar in religions or in pharmaceutical sciences . So both r not a real solution . The best is real good high educated people , patriots who really care for their people They would be responsible for choosing a reasonable man who didnot want it and doesnot want it . Thatis a personal opinion by the way nothing really to take as a serious islamic point of view .

@@amrasfour6704 Organizing one's own life is surely a priority. But apart from being an active productive member only within your family, we have a duty to act productively and positively within society as well. We are created in such a way that we can handle both those duties. One does not exclude the other. Dictators can be crazy. Yes, they, can. So can democracies. But, unlike democracy that is by definition majority rule- therefore- rule of average, a dictatorship, a benevolent one, at least has the potential to be rule of the exceptional, the above average, the most competent. Imagine it like this: Democracy rewards average capability and average ideas, easily understood by the masses. A benevolent dictatorship would in comparison mean, rewarding the best of the best, similar to how you are entrusting a top surgeon to operate on your body and not some random stranger from the street. Some are more knowledgeable and skillful than others in matters of running a country and entrusting them with authority, and responsibility over entrusting the average person just logically makes more sense. A leader should naturally emerge from society. He should not be appointed by a group or elected by majority. This is not a new concept. The only reason we are suppressing that natural phenomenon is because we are insisting on the democratic process where the candidates are forced to play the superficial popularity game to win the vote of people who mostly don't understand or care. That why we end up with corrupt leaders- because the game of democracy rewards sweet talk, lying, flattery, and superficiality and punishes hard truth telling and reforms that would require people to change for the better... Democracy sounds good, but not all things that sound good are good, and not all things that sound bad are bad. The fastest runner should win the prize- of course. Not the average. The best of medical staff should do the surgery, the best of engineers should build the bridge, and the best of leaders should run a country, not random people off the street with no knowledge of leadership, strategy, economy, warfare, diplomacy and the rest... it's just common sense. Nothing extravagant. I am simply raising this point because we are programmed to automatically reject it without consideration even though it is a legitimate, valid point that should at least be talked about more.
@LanaUjdenica
@LanaUjdenica 5 жыл бұрын
@Yan Kech Yes, we should discuss and advise each other, but there is a context and a limit to that. Similarly to how a healthy person is not going to take nutritional and training advice from a morbidly obese person, how an army commander is not going to take votes on battle strategy from everyone over a certain age, but he is going to take advice from his trusted companions and fellow fighters. and so on... Islamic point of view is one of reason, wisdom, fairness and justice, and sometimes, taking equal amount of advice from the inexperienced, the uninterested, the ill-intended, or untrustworthy as from the trustworthy, close companions/co-workers, experienced, does more bad than good. And every one of us is a valuable asset in advising someone at whatever we are good at. No one needs to be left out, we just need to be humble in admitting where we lack knowledge to step aside, and responsible enough to know when it is time to step up when our knowledge is needed.

@Yan Kech I know they were trustworthy, that is exactly my point. That was not democracy, it was counseling, taking in other points of view and brainstorming. So we agree on all of that. My initial point though, was on democracy - which means - everyone, regardless of their trustworthiness, competence, or knowledge gets equal say. Now, what does that mean in a world described in the Qur'an as where: "most of the people refused [anything] except disbelief". In my opinion, though Allah, knows best, democracy is not the most reasonable way to go. I am not asking for a dictatorship, you see, I am simply questioning what society made unquestionable. But when you start thinking about it... it kind of seems that democratic majority rule, is not really that great of an idea. When you think about it it starts looking like democracy is just here to inhibit any kind of positive progress or change, it is here to make changing things as slow and as difficult as possible

@Yan Kech In short - there must be a leader. One leader with full responsibility to appoint good people. There should be no dispersion of responsibility the way it is in a democracy. The public needs to know exactly who is in charge so they can hold that person responsible, and remove them if they prove himself incompetent. There are also measures that can be implemented to make sure tyranny doesn't happen- for example protection programs for whistle blowers, reducing the power of police officers over the general public and increasing the power of the general public over the police. (sort of like policing the police, arresting corrupt police officers, arresting corrupt judges etc.) It's actually pretty straight forward, I think, we just never get the chance to see it and think or talk about it. It's difficult to make a shift from one system to another, but once you get the ball rolling, then things start falling into place. But it's hard to present it in just one comment.. but there are alternatives... we just never hear about them because we are supposed to all agree that democracy is the very top of civilizational accomplishment in governing and we are never supposed to question it publicly.

Great show. It would be great if the issue of sexual harrassment and abuse could be expanded on because it is a serious issue in Egypt and many other places as well the truth of the exploitation of sex workers behind the guise of harm reduction

Guys, we need a written guide with all the right answers like the example Hijab made about the teacher, Revolution and God. Such a guide will help stop bullying of our kids by their Atheist teachers or peers. It will also protect them from Il7ad. I gave this suggestion to our Islamic Center in Virginia USA during the violence against Muslims in 2015- 2017. I couldn't do it, I am not academic or familiar with the culture to know what would be the most effective phrases.

So I'm finally listening to this podcast at work...and then I hear Br. Hijab do an impersonation of our brother Ali Dawah. Nobody disses Ali Dawah and gets away with it. I challenge Br. Hijab to a professional MMA fight. I'm not scared. Anyway, since I'm a nice brother, I will let Br. Ali Dawah take my place in the ring.

I attended a seminar in Birmingham Uk, where the instructor and speaker was a ma in his 30's, who teach self defence lessons. He poised a question, as to who you think most of the people who enroll my classes?, I was surprised, what said. 80% are women.

Very nice and knowledgeable podcast. Thank you for your amazing work! I have a question that was asked that I cannot seem to find an answer to. Why do animals suffer? Are they going to be judged? I understand that it is in their nature to hunt and so on and needed for the eco system of the earth, but is there any other response?
@أمالياأفندي
@أمالياأفندي 5 жыл бұрын
well , firstly how do you know that animals suffer? we assume they are but do we really know for sure? secondly : Allah is more merciful than all of us together, this mercy you feel toward animals is an insignificant part of Allah's mercy . in the authentic Hadith Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Allah has divided mercy into one hundred parts; and He retained with Him ninety-nine parts, and sent down to earth one part. Through this one part creatures deal with one another with compassion, so much so that an animal lifts its hoof over its young lest it should hurt it". as for animals being judged, Allah says :'"And there is no creature on [or within] the earth or bird that flies with its wings except [that they are] communities like you. We have not neglected in the Register a thing. Then unto their Lord they will be gathered." 6.38

10:00 I find the conversation about science teachers attempting to influence religious students very interesting, because for a brief while, as a Hijabi Muslim, I was doing a short training day at one of the schools in London. one of the employers there who was kinda giving us an induction was saying they're a secular school, and then singled me out by looking directly at me and saying we don't approve of teachers discussing religion or influencing students, I thought it was just this one school because it seemed kinda posh to me, but I guess there's a general pattern.

This is brilliant : Defining Liberalism to its view of legalizing prostitution. This view has always been openly debated by liberals themselves - precisely on this point of women abuse - yet these threesome genius finds a way to define Liberalism with this very policy. Keep it up.

A better more nuanced discussion on feminism than your average Muslim speaker. As far as saving women forced into prostitution, perhaps the speakers arent aware but when they are forced into this work, they don’t have the freedom to speak to NGOs and organisations such as the one that Hijab was suggesting setting up. It’s part of the control.
