Turning Archeological Sites into Power packed Learning Experiences
Five Day Work Shop at Udayagiri and Khandagiri- a report
It was just a casual meet up of Dr. J. P. Mishra, PGT History of PM SHRI K V No 1 Bhubaneswar with Dr. S. K. Kar, Superintendent of ASI that turned out to be a forerunner to the discovery of how important Archeological sites like Udayagiri and Khandagiri could be evolved into powerful learning packages for students of history and science.
But it was not until a detailed discussion with Mr. Aditya Kumar Panda, Principal, PM SHRI K V No 1 Bhubaneswar that it became a reality.
The five day work shop from - to - was attended by 15 students of class XI of Humanities and Science background of the Vidyalaya. Dr. K. K. Basa, Director General, ASI addressed the students on 26 Nov 2023 on the day of Samvidhan diwas at Khandagiri.
The workshop, a pilot project of its kind, on how historical sites could be turned to power packages of experiential learning unfolded itself during the five days with dignitaries like Gloria Berhena, Patricia Lacina, DCM, Embassy of USA to India interacting with the students.
"Indian cities and villages are replete with sites of historical and archeological importance. It is for us to identify and tap the potential to evolve them as joyful learning experiences for our students" said Dr. J. P Mishra.
According to National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, pedagogy must evolve to make education more experiential, holistic, integrated, inquiry-oriented, discovery oriented and, of-course, enjoyable. "Our efforts to make PM Shri Vidyalaya for Rising India a reality are in full swing and will continue to do so with the help of our talented team" said Sh. Aditya Kumar Panda, the Principal of PM SHRI K V No 1 Bhubaneswar.
