I'm a 3rd year economics student doing both business and economics, I'm taking intermediate economics right now and the math is definitely a grind. I'm a little older so some of the calculus has been daunting, but it is not insurmountable! The concepts are very interesting and have definitely expanded my perception of things, and my gf who is doing her masters in ecological biology is always interested in my studies because so many of the concepts can be applied in ecology. While it's hard, I"m definitely loving my program and have no regrets, its a massive messy complicated subject but has so many different facets and domains within it. There's no nice secure set career path for a B. Econ because there are many to choose from, and the understanding you gain seems to permeate into your entire perspective of the world.

It's so that no particular store has the locational advantage. Imagine icecream vendors, ones on the left of the beach and the other's in the middle of the beach, the one on the left has 25% of the beach closest to him while the one in the middle has 75% of the beach closest to him. By moving closer together both get 50% share of the area. Obviously preferences will decide who goes where but it helps having the greater share

Because every seller wants the largest share of buyers, and going away from the cluster is risky, so most competing sellers are located closer together

No no, other replies are all wrong, The most basic explanation comes down to both economics and psycology. If there's a coke vending machine your brain starts to analyse that do you want a coke or not. If there's a pepsi and coke vending machine next to each other you take the factor of not taking anything out of the picture and start deciding if you want the pepsi or the coke, Thus increasing the sale of both vending machines

I just graduated with a Bsc International Economics and Trade degree at the University of Nottingham China campus. I'm Indonesian.To be frank, if I could turn back time I would have gone for International Business Management or Finance and Accounting, here's why. Yes, an economics degree does have loads of good value like the analytical skills, understanding the economy, etc. However I feel like if you're not going to do any economics work or be an economist it's lacking lots of stuff. Let's start with say, if you want to go into anything business related like Marketing, Management consulting, etc. It's lacking in a lot of stuff related to the field. Of course you can always learn it outside your degree, but from my experience why would you want to spend money learning stuff that's not relevant for you, when you could have made use of the time on more productive modules? What about the finance field? You can go there with an econs degree. But from my experience I feel like people with an accounting or finance background would be much more competitive. They simply learn and know more stuff than us economics students. I'm not sure about econs and finance, but I did take Financial economics, monetary economics and the finance stuff was very..... limited I had to learn much much (and much) more from certificates and google. Lastly, even the econs modules, are too mathematical, which I believe makes things a lot more complicated than necessary and actually gives way less intuitive insight than if the theories were written in simple words and graphs (This was my biggest complain. Aside from Behavioural Econs which gives more economic insights in my opinion than the rest). The econometrics side.... decent. It's good. I used STATA and MATLAB. Nobody in the private sector nobody uses these other than economists and academics. They use Excel, Python, SQL. Does Economics teach these? No. Even if you want to go to highly analytical jobs, these jobs would prefer computer scientists over us. Not saying economics is a bad degree, but from personal experience I feel that it's lacking lots of stuff, unless you want to be an economist. Personal thought. Complete honesty here.

@cherif91554 жыл бұрын
Not at all, literally no university requires you to study Economics as an A level when applying. When it comes to getting an offer once again they do not care if you studied it, it comes down to your personal statement mostly and how likely you are to achieve the grades to meet the entry requirements. So make sure your personal statement really portrays how much you’re passionate about studying Economics and that you work hard to have good predicted grades. Best of luck :)

@cherif91553 жыл бұрын
@@Xarishher Hi bro, firstly congratulations for getting a 9 in both Maths and Chemistry that’s quite impressive so make sure you reward yourself for that, keep up the good work :) . I agree with you on Maths as you’ll definitely need it if you want to do straight Economics, and I found Maths A level very interesting, however for Chemistry although you did get a 9 I say look at what’s gonna be taught at A level first, watch videos etc bc for me I got a 8 and 7 in Combined Science, Chemistry was my favourite one, tried it at A level and dropped it after a week because I just didn’t enjoy anymore and felt that if I carried on with it I just wouldn’t be happy in general. So I say do your research for Chemistry check what exam board your potential colleges/sixth forms will be using and look at the past papers etc and see if you still want to do it (don’t just choose a subject bc you did well in it at gcse make sure it interests you) you will be surprised at how different subjects will be from gcse and a level
@cherif91553 жыл бұрын
@@Xarishher Concerning your 3rd and 4th choice I found that I had no free time doing 4 A levels (which was another reason why I dropped chemistry) and doing 4 A levels doesn’t put you at an advantage when it comes to applying to unis they would rather have you doing 3 A levels and getting A*AA than doing 4 and getting something like AABB so keep that in mind. I’d say base your options on what really interests you for me I also liked languages and really enjoyed business and as my sixth form wouldn’t allow me to do Business and Economics I did Maths Business and French I really enjoyed each subject and I am still reusing some of my A level notes here which really saves me time as I don’t have to go through all the lectures etc. My key point is that make sure you choose subjects that spark your interest and that you know you’d do well in. You’ll also have to talk about them in your personal statement and talking about something you like is much easier. InshAllah I’m wishing you the best in your exam and drop me an email when it’s time to write your personal statement I’ll be more than happy to send mine and help. ahmad0512@outlook.com Hope that helped 👍🏾

Hey I’m from Canada and planning on moving to the UK after I complete my economics and statistics degree. How hard would it be to get an entry level job in the Uk (I attended a 10 ten university in Canada)(#8)?

Hi, I'm going into university this September, but I'm torn between 2 courses of economics and finance, accounting and finance, what are differences between these courses?
@FinanceUnboxed4 жыл бұрын
The one with accounting will be very technical and will set you up very well if you're sure a career in finance is for you. The one with Econ will keep more options open in terms of careers. Happy to answer anymore questions. For context, I studied Econ and work in finance 🙂

I’m assuming you’re from America because in the UK at least, you can study economics/business in 6th Form (2 year after secondary school) without having done anything beforehand.

I genuinely have a question that is I'm studying A levels now, recently finished AS and now in A2. My subjects are Economics, Business and Accounting. For context I study under Cambridge International exams and I only had Maths D (general maths) for O levels and didn't have additional maths. I also didn't take A level maths and I intend to know at least if I'll be able to take university economics even if means learning a few new topics for maths because idk what to study in Uni and I want to keep my options open. would it be doable or is it too much to cope up with? I would also appreciate if you make videos about business and accounting in university. Loved the video

If you did statistics in the first year and put in something near the recommended study time you will be fine. It is hard, but introductory econometrics is manageable.

Whats the difference between a 'financial economics' degree vs a 'economics and finance' degree?
@nycto162 жыл бұрын
economics and finance is a double major you basically study two different fields at a time. On the other hand financial economics is a single major which is basically a sub-field of economics. Financial economics more focuses on banking, finance, monetary side of econ.
