Regarding the washers issues: the 4 washers drawn on the SM don't strike me as exactly similar to the two washers you've found. Did you acquire that deck second hand? Could it be that the previous owner somehow lost those 4 washers and replaced them by 2 washers himself? and maybe his two washers are thicker than the 4 original ones?

Hello, where did you get the bearings? My 810 is a 3-speed version. I just noticed that it doesn't like Scotch 150 1mil tape.. plays fine and forwards fine but doesn't like to reverse. I'm certain that I could further tweak the tensions to get it working for REW, but I didn't think that scotch tape would be problematic. ATR, maxell work flawlessly. I did get the bearings from eBay. No my deck does not get hot on one side or the other. But the deck does generate heat when played for a long time. Some older tapes does get sticky and hard to pull and the deck could get extra hot from working too hard. I am trying to use only new tapes: ATR or Recording the Master tapes. You should also check out www.tapeheads.net for answers to your questions.

One more thing: Try to reseat the cards in the deck. Sometimes that could solve some issues. A tape deck guru from tape heads.net gave me that tip some time ago for the A810 and the issue went away. it was the same stop issue as you are having. Try it and see. no guarantee.
