Hey Junkie! Could you make an episode where you talk about your strategies for re-conforming a scene? Basically when you've already scored a scene and then the edit changes so you have to move everything around. It would be really cool to hear your take on best practices during that process. Thanks again for all the great tutorials! I always learn a ton

Junkie thank you so much for this tutorial! Really inspires me to becomming a composer for soundtracks. And btw you won't believe how much the fans back at DC miss you. They all used your tracks in a fan cut of Justice League because Elfman disrespected your work and Hans' for not continuing to use your themes that you gave the heroes. We miss you man! Thank you again for this video. Your work is brilliant.

Thanks Tom for sharing your studio time again with us with these inside information how you compose and buildup everything. There is much to learn for me in seeing how you compose and building up these parts in sections, I sure gonna work on this for myself in organizing the tracks. Also these remarks I like a lot to keep it structured. Thanks en groet uit Nederland. Ray :)

I enjoyed this. Your early remarks about not being allowed to show the raw pieces of footage suggests to me this should also be available as extra material on the DVD/BD. Vieweing different versions of footage combined with their different versions of score would be very nice. I'm looking forward to the next episode.

It's unreal how much detail and attention that goes into each and every sound. And to think this is just an 8 minute section! Also sad to think that basically no one will even hear any of this stuff. Most people don't pay any attention to the music whatsoever. Amazing work.
@xD3MONxIxSOULx6 жыл бұрын
I disagree. People pay attention to the whole movie and the music is part of it.
@nietsmusic6 жыл бұрын
TheYuutuba I think if people "don't listen to it" you have done a great job as a composer making a score that supports what you see on screen and lives with it in symbiosis instead of standing out of the movie as a whole. The music really needs to harmonize with what you see on screen and help evoke the emotion that it carries. Sure the common consumer won't "listen", it's not radio music but it is a dimension within a completely different medium on it's on which is film. Just like people wouldn't watch a film without the dimension that the score brings people won't listen to a score without the image that the movie brings. In the end, from a composer stand point it is all about harmony, having one element compliment or counterpoint one another to give greater depth to the artistic experience of the finished product. Very thought provoking comment but I really don't think it is relevant, millions will consume this music, just not in the way that you think music is supposed to be consumed.
@Evli106 жыл бұрын
In mixing, composing and orchestration the small details are a huge part of the overall sound of the music. They are very often the difference between a professional and an amateur. So I would say people hear the details very well, in the overall sound! That sound then evokes emotions in the audience in various ways (effectively because of the details).
@Ex0rz6 жыл бұрын
People pay attention to the music, but for sure not the little details. Its mostly just people like us, who are interested in the music itself.
@amomasi99096 жыл бұрын
People get the overall sense of the movie through emotion and all the 5 sense. Not just vision. Trust me.

Thank you for this - I found it very interesting! I do have a couple of questions about logistics. You mentioned that you use midi orchestra sounds to give a feel for the overall sound but then you later will record the orchestral parts with a real orchestra. Here are my questions: 1) how do you transcribe the parts? Do you just do a midi conversion to score out of Cubase? 2) do you do the conducting of the orchestra? 3) do the orchestra members also hear the click in addition to the conductor? 4) Since you spent so much time on the non-orchestra FX and sounds, will those sounds be used in the final production mix with the “real” orchestra? 5) When you record with the orchestra, do they also hear the synth tracks? Thanks for this deep dive. I loved it and I’m looking forward to catching up on your other ones.
