I after seeing the Black Box in hardware, I expected to see more Analog Compressors, or the Map to compliment your Portico. I also run Console 1, do you run it on every track, and which Strips do you use, and as first plugin or some other chain? AND Thank You for all these videos! I am drooling looking at your Adam S2V's. I know how super awesome they sound, as I owned the Adam A7X's for less than a week and they sounded soooooo awesome, especially to make grand pianos from my Yamaha Montage 8 sound authentic & realistic even at full grand piano volume, whereby they handled the mid frequencies & all the frequencies for that matter, so perfectly with the most crystal clear highs. Unfortunately they had an odd fatal 'flaw', although Adam Support would not call it a flaw and referred to it as a 'design characteristic'. The fatal flaw was that when playing pianos at full grand piano volume to emulate the sound as true and realistic as possible, a lot of the softer played notes in the mid to low areas caused the woofers to rumble & distort, almost like a strange static sound. Adam confirmed this and said that their S series speakers do not have this 'design characteristic'. Hence, I continue to drool knowing how much even more awesome the S series sounds compared to the A series, and aside from the 1 flaw, the A series blew me away...and since the S series is double the price of the A series (& I had already broke the bank doubling my budget on those speakers), and could not afford them nor justify saving for several more years to get them. I hoping someone who has money takes pity and drops off a pair of S2V's at my house 😄 Interestingly enough I see you have the Sennheiser HD 650 headphones. After returning the Adams, I decided to get really good headphones instead, and after a lot of research whereby a lot of reviews kept going back to the HD 600's and comparing many of the top, most expensive headphones to them, I checked further and they were perfect for pianos and for mixing, since their frequency response is quite flat.

That retro keyboard is so sexy, but such JUNK! I bought one, the command key was broken on the left side and they wouldn't do anything to fix it or let me return it, stuck with it. It also has trouble connecting so I'm sitting there for 5 minutes doing everything I can to get it to connect. The battery life is also crap. I would not buy that keyboard if someone is considering it, also noticed you don't use it anymore either. The rest of this video though, quality! Hi Dom...Enjoying your vid's. Quick question. How do the converters on the Sternberg 816C stand up against the RME Fireface UFX? It seems difficult to find reviews on the Steinberg?
@DomSigalas4 жыл бұрын
Well, the UR816C has newer generation converters that can also do 32bit integer recording. But there are two things to consider: the UFX is a very old interface and the price range is very different- the UFX is supposed to be on the £1500 range where the 816C is one third of the price ;)
@kcdewinter6114 жыл бұрын
@@DomSigalas Thanks for that. I have always used RME in the past and the quality is good and stability has been rock solid with low latency. I don't direct monitor so latency is important, but as you say the Steinberg converters are more up to date and 32 bit. It's difficult to find a review of the 816C that goes into detail on the quality and latency though.

I discovered you on the yamaha montage. You're one of the people who decided to buy me one and I fell in love at first sight. I had the bad habit of buying too many synthesizers. The montage made quite a lot of space in my studio. Big shoud out for that ! As someone who left the computer world a few years ago, I was wondering why this studio doesn't have modular synth ? Did you try it ? Now I understand that you can't tame everything either. With so much material and knowledge to store, I guess you still have to make music !
@DomSigalas4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Mathias! I will answer your question : I would LOVE to have a modular system in my studio. There are two reasons why I haven't got one (yet): 1. I am very prone to getting excited about gear and a modular synth is a never ending adventure. I know I would spend hundreds of bucks every month to get a new module :P 2. It is not necessary to my workflow to be honest. I like to get stuff that are going to make their money's worth very soon. The Montage has paid for itself many times over, same with the OB6 and Sub37 as well as the other pieces I have (well, maybe not the OP-1 yet!). So a modular would be a self indulgent project, which I might take on in the future. :)

For synthesizer action, I haven't felt a better keybed than the OB-6. I've been fortunate enough to try out a Montage 8 at my local music store, but they didnt't have a 7 or 6. How would you compare the action on the OB-6 keybed versus the action of the Montage 7 or 6? I already have a Yamaha Reface CS (unweighted mini keys) and an Arturia Keylab 88 (weighted) so I'm looking for the best semi-weighted keybed. Your videos are why I'm considering a Montage! @ Dom Sigalas I'm delighted to see you have a Yamaha Reface DX. I've just bought 1 for my studio to help recreate some of the FM synth sounds of the 80s. I interested to know why you chose the 4 operator Reface and not the 6 op original more powerful DX7 ? I would have thought both your Montages could do same job?

The reface DX has a tip in its sleeve that makes it super easy to program and fun to use: feedback on each one of the operators. You can get the same result in the Montage with various techniques but the DX does it so easily it makes programming FM sounds SUPER easy :)
