I feel like tutorials on making your own wedging board, reclaiming clay, the plaster bat system, how you clean your wheel would be helpful as someone with a home studio. I'm still very much a beginner so im making due in my backyard but would love to see specific ways of doing things in a robust garage studio :-)

Ooh I love these ideas 😊 For my wedging board, I currently just use a small hardibacker board that I move around to wherever is convenient for me to wedge at that moment (table, floor, etc.) I’ll definitely try to make more detailed videos showing how I work in my garage studio though. Thanks for the suggestions!! ❤️

I’ve been fantasizing about taking the plunge on a home studio and, although I’ve watched a ton of videos on it, the way you share your process in such an authentic/non-intimidating way are really giving me the courage that I can do it too 🥲 Thank you ✨

this is such a lovely space! A couple days ago I signed up to do a ceramics course to learn how to use the wheel, I've done hand building before and loved it so I'm really excited to see how the wheel is in comparison! Seeing your studio made me so excited to potentially have my own one day in the future :')

This is so inspiring… so beautifully and efficiently done. I’m in the process of doing this in my garage. This video is very helpful for me to visualize the end result. I’m definitely subscribing. For reclaiming clay I use big empty buckets of paint, but yours seems smaller and more convenient may I ask you where did you get them?

thank you for your sweet comment - i'm glad this video was helpful for you in some way 🙂 i got my reclaim buckets from home depot but they sell similar ones on amazon! wishing you the best on getting your garage studio together 💖

Thank you for sharing your space! I just picked up wheel throwing last month and have loved it so much. I was wondering long did it take for you to convince yourself to create your own space? The commute and cost of continuing to attend the classes I go to is far and pricy. The class’s that are available is also at inconsistent times fr me.. but idk if I should extend another 8 weeks to get a better feel of wheel throwing since I’ll be around ppl who can help or I’ll learn more as I practice more?

of course! 🤍 i made the decision to create my home studio pretty early on in my journey. at that time, i was enrolled in a 6 week ceramics course and decided to just go for it! i figured if a monthly membership at my local studio was about $200, i would rather spend that money on an inexpensive wheel to just practice at home. for me, i felt comfortable with the basic skills i took home with me from my ceramics course and i actually preferred learning on my own! it's a different experience for everyone (of course) but practice and youtube were perfect for me 🙂

@@byslowstudio omg - your membership was expensive. Thank you for your input! I have until mid April for my class to end and I'm leannnnning towards creating my own space at home after watching your videos. :) I'm excited to see what you keep creating in the future!

Such a beautiful space! I have one more question: do you hand paint your glazes onto the pieces or do you dip them into the glaze? And also, do you buy powder-glaze or some that's already mixed? :)
@byslowstudio
@byslowstudio Жыл бұрын
thank you laura!! 💕 i hand paint all of my colored glazes and i usually dip my clear :) i buy the colored glazes in little containers/bottles and the clear in a powder!

How is throwing there in the summer? We have such hot summers where I live and always get concerned if the temperature change will mess with my wheel if throwing in my garage!

Thank you very much for your presentation. I have a question for you. What experience do you have with the Ceramic wheel that you bought from Amazon. is it good for a starting? I am a ceramist and I am also thinking of getting one. thank you
@byslowstudio
@byslowstudio Жыл бұрын
Hi! I love my Amazon wheel as a beginner and as someone who generally throws smaller forms. If you’re planning on throwing bigger pieces such as vases, planters, plates, etc - it can get a little difficult because of the smaller wheelhead! But yes I definitely think it’s a good wheel for starting out. Affordable and works well 😊
