@@McArthurRose77 haha yeah, ive had my share of experiences with WA gear... I think they have a few gems, like the WA251 is pretty decent, but there is definitely some QC issues in that company...

@@spinlightstudios the buss comp was ok but the 1176 not great… you save a lot buying these but lose a lot when you unload them.

I find most of warm audios products have a certain “muddy” character to them. But yeah, the resale is no good. And that’s also a good reason to just buy the sought after gear - it holds its value.

Solid recommendations. Saving up for quality pays off in the long run.

I noticed you’re using the LA-2A in your vocal chain instead of that blue stripe 76A. I thought the 76’s fast attack would be better for tracking, so I’m curious about your choice. I’ve got the same AKG XLS and Great River pre (half rack) and am considering the Audioscape 76f or 76a for my hardware vocal tracking chain. Would love to hear your thoughts.

The 76a had a certain Colour/grit to it that doesn’t work well on every vocal. The Opto works really great on most vocals - but I still might add some 1176 style compression itb if it needs some extra excitement. If you want a good all rounder 1176, I’d probably go with the 76F.

Thanks Jesse, yeah, the list is endless haha just need to focus on the things that will improve your recordings and not worry about having it all straight away haha

I noticed that your Samson patchbay was labeled. What did you use? My label maker’s paper is too thick to get them in there like you have yours. Can you share how you accomplished this??
@spinlightstudios Жыл бұрын
Much pain! Haha 😂 I just used a DYMO label marker on the smallest font size and then cut them out really thin! And then stuck them above/below the in/outs. It’s a little messy but better than nothing!

Hey Rhys, have you got any experience with the Warm Audio outboard compressors? Their WA-2A and their 1176 clone look enticing... Thoughts?
@spinlightstudios Жыл бұрын
I’ve had them all man. Tbh they aren’t terrible, but they aren’t amazing. The wa2a has nothing on a real la2a or something like the Audioscape Opto. I used the wa76 for a few years but it’s become kind of redundant in my studio now. I use it on bass and a few things occasionally, but don’t really run vocals through it anymore. Honestly think the UAD plugins sound better than the warm stuff… If you can, save for something better, but if not, the warm stuff at least surpasses the Klark teknik.. steer clear of that. You’ll still get good results with the warm stuff.

@@spinlightstudios Thanks for the response man, I think I might pick up a UA apollo x4 when funds allow for it, and just use their unison plugins for a while. They seem to be a great value when comparing to stuff like the Warms, as you've mentioned. Really liked this vid. Would like more like it.

What other recommendations do you have for the 2a the audio scape one is sold out ? And how does ssl six works with the tlm 103 ?
@spinlightstudios Жыл бұрын
There is probably not a lot of options around, Audioscape sell units once or twice a week and they sell out really quick. Warm audio has the WA2A, the Audioscape is way better, but if you can’t get your hands on one, the WA2A is at least better than the klark teknik. I actually haven’t used the TLM through the ssl six. I mostly have the ssl Six on my snare mic too and bottom. I should give it a try and see how it sounds.
