Studio Visit: Mona Ayyash

In this Artist Studio Visit, we introduce Mona Ayyash, a Palestinian Dubai-based visual artist and a participant in the 2024 cycle of the 421 Artistic Development Program.
Focusing on themes of repetition, memorization, slowness, and boredom, Mona is participating in her first solo exhibition, ‘The Clock Doesn’t Care’, running from May 16 until August 25, 2024. This exhibition showcases six collaborative video pieces featuring a group of actors, dancers, and performance artists, focusing on small body movements.
Without a clear narrative to hold the spectator’s attention, ‘The Clock Doesn’t Care’ serves as a playful inquiry into the objective nature of time. The exhibition’s title expresses how time, indifferent to our individual pursuits, will continue its inevitable move forward without concern or coercion.
This project grew from the artist’s earlier participation in the Homebound Residency Program in 2020, where she produced a video work titled ‘Folding Bellies’ in collaboration with five participants from the UAE art community.
Ayyash holds an MFA in Studio Arts from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. Her notable achievements include her work being exhibited in NIKA Project Space in 2023, Jameel Art Centre in 2021, and Maraya Art Centre as part of the UAE Unlimited program in 2019. She was an artist-in-residence at The Alserkal Residency for their Fall 2017 cycle.

نقدم لكم في هذه النسخة من زيارة استوديو الفنان الفنانة البصرية الفلسطينية المقيمة في دبي منى عياش التي شاركت في دورة 2024 من برنامج 421 للتطوير الفني.
تتناول منى مواضيع التكرار والاستذكار والتثاقل والضجر من خلال معرضها الفردي "الزمن لا يُبالي" المقام في الفترة من 16 مايو حتى 25 أغسطس 2024، ويتضمن ستة مقاطع فيديو تعاونية لمجموعة من الممثلين والراقصين وفناني الأداء يركزون على حركات الجسد الدقيقة.
لا يعتمد المعرض على سردية واضحة تسترعي انتباه المشاهد، بل يمثل استقصاءً مرحاً يستطلع الطبيعة الموضوعية للزمن، في حين يعبر عنوانه "الزمن لا يبالي" عن استمرار الوقت في حركته الحتمية إلى الأمام دون اكتراث أو إكراه.
جاء المشروع نتيجة لمشاركة الفنانة في برنامج الإقامة الفنية المنزلية في عام 2020، حيث أنتجت فيديو بعنوان "بطون مطوية" بالتعاون مع خمسة مشاركين من مجتمع الفنون في دولة الإمارات.
منى حاصلة على ماجستير الفنون الجميلة في فنون الاستوديو من جامعة كونكورديا في مونتريال الكندية. عُرضت أعمالها ضمن مشروع نيكا عام 2023، ومركز جميل للفنون عام 2021، ومركز مرايا للفنون كجزء من برنامج “أ.ع.م. اللامحدودة” عام 2019، كما شاركت في برنامج إقامة السركال بدبي ضمن برنامج الخريف 2017.
