I totally agree. Nolan doesn't explain too much, he explain only the things he have to... there's a lot of unexplained things in Interstellar and a lot of hard-understandable scientific things that Nolan cut off (the method used to discover the wormhole using LIGO for example. He cut off the red shift and doppler effect from Gargantua etc...). But some things need to be explained, the spheric wormhole need to be explained, no one imagine a spheric wormhole, so he have to explain to us that "no, a wormhole is not a hole, is a sphere", the tesseract need to be explained, the human evolution in a 5-dimensional specie need to be explained etc... And all of this explainaition are well placed in the script, are interactions between characters, for this reason the main character is an ingeneer, because he don't understand anything of real science, so the real scientists have to explain to him. They could have choosen a geologist, but he would never understand even the explaination, but only licked his rocks (*sarcasm*). Intestellar is not a sci-fi movie, Interstellar is a scientific/speculative movie, the scientific things in the movie are part of the narration. The science showed in the movie is a lot of far than common people knowledge (some things is understandable in total only to a very little group of super physicists), some little explaination is needed. It's like the script of Big Short, when, in some points, the narration is stopped to explain some important financial things, whithout those explainations, the movie is totally incomprehensible. But, there is a problem, it's a Nolan (both Nolan, I think) defect, they aren't so good in writing dialogues. In all his filmography the only interesting dialogues are the Joker's dialogues in TDK.

I think it is underrated, too. It is an epic and dramatic conclusion to two of his most famous works. They had the daunting and unenviable task of picking back up from the legendary Dark Knight. Once again, he makes the bold decision to remove the cape and cowl for a large portion of the film and force us to watch Gotham descending into madness and going on this spiritual journey with Bruce, which leads him and us full circle back to Begins with the “why do we fall” moment. It’s got complex social and political themes while also being a personal story about getting back up again and I think it’s a real shame people just dismiss it as being not as good as TDK. And if we’re talking on a purely technical perspective, you’ve got one of his biggest set pieces in the plane hijacking, the gigantic fight scene full of extras that aren’t CGI or anything, it brings even more light to the movie, making the trilogy a nice work of visual storytelling with Gotham literally getting brighter and more hopeful despite everything Gothamites have suffered through. Cast is top notch as always as is the score. That ending shot with Blake rising up as the dark knight. Good stuff.

But as per me I really love *Dunkrik* . Because the story is not about just one person but a whole situation. No one is important but still every single man serve the urge of the story. Cross cutting form ground to the sea to the sky, and continuing this method in the whole film sets a rhythm. And the colours, ohh, just mind blowing. I think this is one of the best film with richest colour grading, I just love this color grading. Suspense of the story lineup is also great.
@StudioBinder5 жыл бұрын
The color grading, cinematography, suspense, etc. was next level in Dunkirk. But story-wise, how do you think Dunkirk compares to The Prestige?
@kundumehul5 жыл бұрын
@@StudioBinder There's no conflict about the story. "The prestige" by far have the best story and same old Nolan style, non linear story telling with lots of suspense and flash back and flash forward back and forth. No doubt it's a great story. But I really don't like the color grading at all, because it's too normal nothing to strike my mind or set an example. The only shot I liked in the whole film is funeral of Julie. And by the way there is a thing in literature, or a concept that you start a piece with subjecting one man or a one particular person but as you grow in the story you end it up with infinity, an open ending which leaves space for viewers to think. And that's a great piece. But at the end of the prestige Nolan explains too much, explaining everything isn't required at all. In that way you are not providing the opportunity to the audience to rethink about your story and discovering the ends themselves. And if you don't do that the story doesn't last in their mind for a long time, it will fade away. Because we always remember what we have done actively. (Before the story ended I had already figured out that Robert has been killing his own clones)

1. The Dark Knight 10/10 (it's a perfect crime movie with complex human interactions and philosophies at stake, great blocking, staging in small scenes as well as the action sequences, phenomenal ending, best performance in Nolan's movies by Heath Ledger) 2. Interstellar 10/10 (the dialogue to explain these complex ideas was necessary, as evident by people still not getting some of the core ideas behind the film. It's masterful filmmaking, starting with cinematography and going into amazing score and performances) 3. Memento 9/10 (a true puzzle of a movie with a fantastic and original idea on how to tell a story. It's amazing how it all fits at the end) 4. The Dark Knight Rises 9/10 (there aren't any serious plot holes in the film contrary to popular believe, and it has some of the best cinematography in Nolan films and its the most effective emotionally film in his career with Bale being the best he has been in the role and Bane being a more than solid substitute for Joker. Great Hollywood epic and romance disguised as a superhero movie) 5. The Prestige 9/10 (tremendous parallel between filmmaking and illusion) 6. Batman Begins 9/10 (the best origin story ever) 7. Inception 8/10 (I'll agree with too much exposition, unfortunately basically every dialogue in the film is exposition, great meta commentary on filmmaking and his most spectacular sequences) 8. Insomnia 7/10 (it's a solid thriller but never stands out from its competition... the characters are not as interesting) 9. Dunkirk 6/10 (technically it's good and probably Nolan's most unorthodox movie but the action and not character driven storyline becomes boring really shortly and even though it's Nolan's shortest film, it feels like the longest. Emotionally it's completely void and completely not suspenseful becomes of a lack of attachment to anyone. Interesting idea but a failed attempt) 10. Following 6/10 (technically its rubbish but the story holds up)

Hard disagree for Interstellar. Yes, I agree that the exposition was mostly necessary, but there are numerous sequences where the dialogue is just sloppily put together. And the sad part is that it happens more times than not. Inception is a better example of good exposition. It's only used when needed and always has an internal function for being there. Apart from that, the dialogue is overall a lot better, and while the film has issues it's still great. My own personal ranking: 1. The Prestige (10/10) 2. Dunkirk (10/10) 3. The Dark Knight (10/10) 4. Memento (9-10/10) 5. Inception (8.5 - 9/10) 6. Batman Begins (8.5/10) 7. Interstellar (8-8.5/10) 8. The Dark Knight Rises (8/10) 9. Insomnia (7.5/10) 10. Following (7/10) 11. Tenet (6.5/10)

Interstellar is one of my favourite all time films, and top sci fi for sure. But as much as I loved it, I agree that The Prestige is a better film. The emotional ending of Interstellar isn't enough for me to put it above Prestige. As soon as I saw the Prestige I downloaded the ebook and read it in two days avoiding everything around me. It contains even more material than the film. It worked on so many levels and left me with wanting more. Interstellar was like a great meal, satisfying, indeed. But Prestige is a medley of perfection, and the story remained tight woven around a couple of characters, unlike Interstellar that is a massive three act construction with less interesting issues connecting them.

I’ve always saw inception as what it was on the surface. Dom is given a job to incept someone’s mind, and make them have an original thought; he has to recruit a team. Then years later I went back, and realized the job was actually them incepting Dom. The job was to trick Dom to returning to reality. And the people who he “recruited” were all apart of the plan. They were all hired by Dom’s dad.

My ranking of Christopher Nolan's movies. 1. Interstellar 2. The Dark Knight 3. Inception 4. Memento 5. Batman Begins 6. Dunkirk 7. The Prestige 8. The Dark Knight Rises 9. Insomnia 10. Following Honsetly it was very tough to choose my favorite Nolan movie. The man hasn't made one bad movie yet and it seems he keeps getting better with what he does next. Inception and Interstellar are both amazing movies. Both are the best Sci-Fi movies of the century in my opinion. But I go with Interstellar because it's Nolan's most ambitious project to date in my opinion. Secondly the emotional connect between father and daughter feels so real, its gripping, from start to finish, it always brings tears in my eyes and the overall message in the movie needs to be taken seriously. I just love the science, acting, cinematography and ofcourse Nolan's directing. It's all so amazing. And it's also Nolan's most personal film as well.

It's an original film and really can't wait for more news. I keep checking Google if there's any update about the movie 😂 I'm a pure Nolan fan boy 😊

I just loved Wally Pfister's cinematography in the interrogation scene in 'The Dark Knight'. The way the camera moves, the direction it moves, the angle at which it's placed say so much about the conflict between the characters, their constantly varying state of power, their moralities and so much more. Easily one of the best examples of VISUAL storytelling, and showing us that the camera can say as much about the story as the screenplay.
