Another hint about the Annie reveal even earlier: after the first Female Titan episode when Jean, Reiner, and Armin are stranded in Titan territory with only 2 horses, they are deciding which of them should stay behind. At that time, Armin immediately volunteers himself, but says he has a message that he needs them to pass on for him, "preferably directly to Commander Erwin," before Jean cuts him off saying that someone is coming and is bringing horses (which is Christa with Jean's horse). So it was already at that moment, after their first encounter, that he was sure enough of his suspicions that he wanted to make sure Commander Erwin was notified even in the event of Armin's death.

i felt that scream!! Please watch the OVA's they explain so much about the world in general and a bit of history for the characters as well. I'm glad you guys are enjoying the show, and you're so lucky you get to binge all of it instead of having to wait days, weeks, months, years to find out what happens next. also i loved that interaction "you're not ready." "I AM READY JACK!!" that is literally every emotion at once. you're both not ready and ready. It seems like you don't need a break but you need that moment to calm down and think about everything that just happened.

(about the previous episodes) Erwin made the scout expedition, knowing there !might! be other titans like Eren trying to destroy humanity. He bet that if that was the case, those human-titans wouldn't want them to either reclaim wall Maria or get to Eren's basement to find out what everything means. So he went on an expedition to make a forward base to start with the reclamation of wall Maria/getting to Eren's basement and if there was no sign of another human-titan trying to sabotage the mission, they would just go on with the public goal of the expedition to make this forward base. If there was a human-titan sabotaging them, they'd go to the tall trees forest where Erwin had set up a trap exactly for that purpose. So he planned for both possible outcomes, a win-win. That's what makes Erwin great - he makes win-win scenarios out of everything and plans ahead like nobody else could possibly ever do.

It goes even deeper than that. Erwin knew there was Titan spy since the attack on Trost because the armoured Titan never appeared to try and break the inner gate. He correctly surmised that the spy must have been present at the Battle of Trost. He also guessed that the spy got in during the attack on Shiganshina, so everyone who joined the military prior to that was in the clear. That meant the spy had to be a member of the 104th cadet corps. In order to narrow the number of suspects, Erwin really emphasised dangers of joining the court regiment during the induction ceremony. One of his subordinates notes this, telling Erwin that he overly intimidated the cadets and that none of them will want want join the scouts. But then he reveals the info about Eren's basement and the fact that the scouts will soon launch an expedition to get there, knowing that the spy will have to join the scouts to prevent this. This means that the spy is among the few cadets who actually signed up for the scouts, which narrows the list of suspects to only a handful. And then of course, he gave different plans to each of the new recruits with different locations for Eren. When the Female Titan attacked the right flank, the list of suspects shrank to only like 3 or 4 people. Truly brilliant planning and amazing writing.

I love the way attack on titan does exposition. You can decipher who the female titan is, (Carter and Erwin were on to it early on) or you could be behind (like I was) and crack the code later on. They don't purposefully make red herrings to deceive their viewers to make “eP1c pL0t TwIstS”. If you pay attention, you will pick up clues.

Idk if y'all still read comments in month old videos, but here's a little trivia/realization: Eren being in denial that Annie's the Female Titan is probably because they were kinda close, as in sparring partners. They're not EMA trio close, and they weren't exactly friends either, but they were sparring partners. Of course trainees switch up partners from time to time, but Eren has been intrigued by Annie's fighting style (which was different from what was taught by their instructor) since the beginning, and in the manga it's been implied that he learns from her a lot for a long time. This could also be the reason why Mikasa hesitated in S2 when they first discovered the Armored and Colossal (when she didn't cut off their heads): Mikasa, Reiner and Bert all being Top 1,2,3 in the rankings could also mean they sparred together quiet often, because sparring with others (e.g. Mikasa vs Armin) would result in too much difference in skill/strength and would be counterproductive. 104th Batch all in all is very close, like a family, as it's been mentioned before. I just like pointing this out whenever I see older betrayals lol.
