Azula is a straight menace. She strolled in after beating the Kyoshi warriors, overthrew the city and took over their military, eliminated the other leaders, manipulated Zuko, didn't hesitate and let the "Protagonist powers up for several minutes" trope happen, AND she ended up on top while the heroes ended this season with a major loss. That girl knows how to manipulate people. "You were never even a player". Absolutely fantastic character.

I think Guru Patik didn't mean Aang should forget or stop loving Katara. He meant he shouldn't be dependent on anything for his personal fulfillment and happiness. He can love people, but he can't be a controlled avatar if he lost himself to emotions when these attachments break. So love is ok as a bonus, but you can't be dependent on such attachments for you to function as a person. You have to be 100% functional all on your own. For example here, saving Katara isn't a problem, but being so emotionally attached that you run to save her instead of staying calm, opening the last chakra quickly and THEN going to save her, that is a bad decision driven by emotional attachment. THAT is the kind of attachment the Guru wanted Aang to get rid of, the kind that makes you make bad decisions and become unbalanced. I mean, it literally would've just taken 10 more seconds to get it done and then save her in a much more competent and powerful state.
@lexzeyfercronus Жыл бұрын
Agreed,Korra did it yet she was still very capable of loving,Aang was just not mature enough to make the decision.
@ardynizunia9709 Жыл бұрын
@@lexzeyfercronus Also would've helped if Guru Patik was a bit more specific for Aang lol. When Aang was questioning why he should abandon Katara the Guru didn't clarify anything. But that is probably part of the chakras huh? Like, you have to do it YOURSELF and come to the correct conclusions and emotions YOURSELF. So that's probably why the Guru left it vague.

It's no surprise Zuko turned back to the Fire Nation. He's an abused child. It's very common for the abused to cling to or go back to abusive relationships. And, that short lived "new" happy Zuko was just Zuko switching from what he thought he should be for his father to what he thought he should be for his uncle. It didn't last because it was just another mask. He threw away one mask and put on another. People question whether Aang was dead or just severely injured. He was dead. There are a couple of levels of medical death. Clinical death is where your heart and/or breathing stops. You might still have time to resuscitate someone (CPR and ACLS) as your brain is still living on oxygen and nutrients already in your system. But, if nothing is done you move on to biological death. That is brain death. There is no coming back from brain death. ☠️
@happilyevernever4289 Жыл бұрын
Yup the first time I saw Zuko turn into a sweet lil Tea shop helper, it felt so fake that i thought he's just trying his best to please his uncle. Like he was trying to suppress his conflicted feelings.
@islaythejabberwokky11 ай бұрын
Even him getting severely ill after making the decision to free Appa isn't all that unrealistic; I've known abuse survivors who genuinely have extreme physical reactions to things that would have, in the past, gotten them punished. It's exaggerated for storytelling effect, but that's a real thing PTSD can do. Zuko had been conditioned from a very young age that betraying his father and his nation is the most unforgivable thing he could do; he was publicly maimed and humiliated and banished from his homeland just for disrespecting a general and questioning a military decision, imagine what would be done to him if they found out he had made a deliberate move to give the "enemy" the upper hand, especially when his direct orders and last chance at "redemption" was to bring down said enemy. I used to think it was weird that he got so sick after that moment, but it honestly makes a lot of sense as to why he relapsed as hard as he did. Things might have been different if he had more time to recover.
@kapilavastuvasinАй бұрын
Zuko is a years long addict ( drug of choice- redeeming honour) and finally - FINALLY letting the one family member who loves him (his uncle), clear his head and show him how he isnt chasing his destiny or redeeming his honour, he is just being a foolish tool of his egomaniac dad and sister, throwing his life away for nothing. He's only been sober for a few weeks, when Azula just shows up and dumps a truckload of his drug of choice at his feet. he relapsed. As he should, like 99.999% people would.

One thing the show does really well (among others) is showing the dependency that victims of abuse have on their abuser. You see this play out in real life so many times too, and many times people will just be like "well why don't they leave", but it's a lot more complicated than that.

I think it's crazy that all this wouldn't have happened if the gang stuck around to see the Kyoshi Warriors before leaving instead of just confidently waving them through. Also, I believe "happy" Zuko was a mask. He came to the realization that he would in all likelyhood never have the destiny he wanted, his life ambition was cut short and not on his terms. Instead of wallowing, he just decided to make the most of the situation, smile and pretend to be happy for Iroh and himself until it becomes genuine happiness. But Azula dangled that carrot before he had a chance to fully close that chapter in his life.

Unpopular opinion, but I think the Guru meant everything he said. If the teaching is based on Buddha's path to enlightenment he literally did abandon his wife and child, so it stands to reason that as Aang's quest to attain enlightenment/complete mastery over the Avatar state he needs to do the same(at the very least in the Guru's mind). Spoiler: The same way a certain someone lost his attachment/tether to the world when he lost his beloved and thus obtaining enlightenment and access to the ultimate form of airbending
@skull1161 Жыл бұрын
then how does it work for other avatars? we clearly see avatars that have mastered the avatar state for example, Roku, he mastered the avatar state and also has a wife and had a child spoilers for ATLA below a theme you see a lot in ATLA is that masters of their craft can have differing opinions even though their skill is exceptional a good example is the difference between Iroh and Jeong Jeong. When Jeong Jeong talks about firebending it almost sounds as if he hates it, he says that it only brings destruction, that is likely because he became a master in such an evil nation like the fire nation. His opinion of firebending is tainted because he grew up and trained under the premise of war. But Iroh does not have the same opinion of firebending, and that is because he went to see the sun warriors, when Aang and Zuko meet the sun warriors they explain that fire is life which is very different from Jeong Jeong's view of firebending. What I'm trying to say is that you can be an impressive and wise master and still be wrong about something. The Guru can be wrong in the same way Jeong Jeong is wrong. Because how can people like Kyoshi and Roku possibly have spouses if they had mastered the avatar state?
@muhammadnazrin3390 Жыл бұрын
@@skull1161 that is why I put in brackets (at least that was what guru phatik thought) I'm not saying he's right or wrong. I'm just saying he meant what he said rather than the fandom saying he explained poorly. Second of, I always thought of the Avatar state, the way the other Avatars use it is equivalent to the Hulk, a goal/targeted outcome is set, but it's an automatic reaction where the past Avatars knowledge/strength is facilitated by R(iyjyk) and the Avatar just turns it off and on rather than the Avatars having full and complete control over the state. Of course this is just my interpretation of it and is in no way canon. However, I do believe the guru said what he meant to say, (as misguided as he possibly was), rather than the fandom saying oh he meant something else and Aang just didn't get it.
@lexzeyfercronus Жыл бұрын
I think the phrasing is irrelevant,Aang dosnt want to be the avatar,thats a fact and its all that matters,so no matter how clear or suggarcoated the message is,he would rather avoid taking the final step to fullfill his role,ateast at this point,in comparison to _another_ avatar that would do *anything* to fullfill her role as an avatar.

Unpopular opinion: Buddhists can be scumbags too. "Enlightenment" at the expense of your loved ones is the ultimate betrayal. It's the peak of self-worship. Iroh was 100% correct when he said that perfection and power are overrated.

@@skull1161 Yangchen says "Many great and wise Air Nomads have detached themselves and achieved spiritual enlightenment, but the Avatar can never do it, because your sole duty is to the world. Here is my wisdom for you. Selfless duty calls you to sacrifice your own spiritual needs and do whatever it takes to protect the world." I think this is the great dilemma of the Avatar. As a SPIRIT, Raava can be detached and look down on humanity. But in merging with a human being, she no longer can be detached. The Avatar will NEVER be able to be fully impartial, because they're human. And human beings do not run on logic. But emotion. Avatar Szeto is a great showcase of this, as he only focused on the Fire Nation. Yangchen had to pick up his slack and balance the nations out, but neglected the spirits, which is ironic given that she's an Airbender. Kuruk had to pick up HER slack and battle many dark spirits, to the point of losing his wife to one, and getting himself killed in his 30s. Kyoshi's great regret was the dai li, and arguably, living as long as she did via using Earthbending to bend the molecules in bones to regenerate. If she had died sooner, or maybe even LATER, Roku wouldn't have had to deal with the dilemma of killing his best friend. Not killing Sozin, caused the Air Nomads to be wiped out. Aang had to take on the responsibility of ending a 100 year war. In perspective, Aang gave Korra a relatively peaceful world. She kind of caused a lot of her own problems, and solved those problems. However, Korra made one huge, grave error. Letting her uncle get too close, and take away her past lives. The next Avatar, will probably be focused on getting them back, as energy cannot be destroyed, only passed on. And it just doesn't make sense to get rid of all that knowledge the past lives have.

To those who are seeing Azula and the Dai Li angle a bit skeptically, think rationally about it: ...if you were the Dai Li and the choice came right down to either arresting Azula or Long Fang, as it happened in the throne room, who'd you choose to side with ? Its azula ez for me - she is the most overpowered villain in the entire show and one of the most overpowered characters ever - 1v1 except maybe the firelord himself, Azula can take down anyone - she blasts through toph's rocks like destroying toiletpaper, with her lightning, she eats ang for dinner - both 1v1 and in avatar state and at that point in time, she also eats Zuko for dinner and actually got to shoot the famed Dragon of the west, to create distraction, while being cornered by the dragon of the west himself, with the avatar, the strongest earth-bender ever, zuko, katara and another dude waving a stick around(Sokka). Long Fang himself might be a good earthbender, he certainly isnt the best, neither are the Dai Li agents, while Azula is one of the top 3 firebenders and top 3 most powerful individuals in the damn show up to this point. Not to mention, she is so powerful and so confident in her abilities, she literally leads a 3 person team to infiltrate Ba Sing Se and the Royal Palace and successfully does so after disposing of the famed Kyoshi warriors while toying with them ! Like, sorry, but seeing her nearly take down the city by herself in a drill with 2 henchmen and a maybe a few dozen soldiers inside the drill alone is enough for a Dai Li agent to heisitate to go up against Azula. If you actually KNOW who she is and what she can do and how you cant run and hide from her- not even the freaking avatar can- i'd throw Long Fang under the bus 10 times outta 10 even if its just 1 week with Azula. Sorry, even as assistant head honcho of Dai Li, i aint followig command of 'arrest the fire nation princess'. Thats a death sentence, simple.

Huh... I still think it's weird people see that as a romance. lol Okay so if, all of you crazy peoples' minds, you were to remove the romance aspect of Zuko and Katara's interaction, how should it have gone down differently given their personalities and personal journeys?
@mattiaachille23311 ай бұрын
People are idiots. I also noticed that they cut the reaction of the love and grief chakra which was honestly an incredible moment if you really, really like Aang’s character. Sure Zuko and Katara would have looked cute or whatever but they literally have jack shit in common apart from trauma and Aang and Katara have been through thick and thin together long before Zuko decided to do the right thing against the tyranny of the Fire nation. I’ll never understand why the hell people saw their first civil interaction to be romantic when Katara shows that she cares deeply about Aang constantly 🤷🏻♂️ If Zuko and Katara ever had a cave of two lovers episode none would doubt they were in love but they didn’t and they are not

To put this finale in perspective we had to wait A GOD DAMN YEAR back in the late 2000s for season 3. The wait itself would've been fine...if not for the shipping war to end all shipping wars. God I still have flashbacks.

I think it's incredibly raw for a kids show to kill of their main character (even tho it was short)

These are my top two favorite episodes of the whole show. The character arcs and action scenes coming together were absolutely beautiful This's also probably the episode that started the Zutara ship among fans

At least you guys don't have to wait over a year and a half between season 2 & 3 to finish the series like we did when it was first airing lol

Cool small detail when Ang is falling after getting struck with azula’s lightning. The bottom of his foot has a scar from it exiting his body and going into the ground below him exactly how lightning would work. The path of least resistance to a grounding source aka the ground through the foot.

Aang was to young to understand that he didn't mean y9u couldn't love her or be with her. He just ment that you have to learn to let her go if you ever need to so you can choose the safety of the world or the safety of katara. The avatar is allowed to have attachments your just not allowed to put those attachments over the needs of everyone else's.

To be fair, I think we expected a bit much. Zuko still has not only unresolved issues within himself but also some unresolved issues with Sis and Dad, plus the remnants of an understandable childish dream to be accepted into the 'family' or maybe just to FINALLY please his father, the only parent he's had since his mom was banished.

Hey btw, the show had to really fast track the chakra opening process but it is actually a real thing. Buddhists, especially hindu buddhists meditate on chakras and visualise these aspects of their lives to gain enlightenment.

its end of 2nd act and by rules of story telling its the lowest point. also color theme is so sick 1st blue water, 2nd green earth. lightning is electricity so it has to go thru to have impact and went out of the foot to the ground which was closest i guess the least resistance

The great thing about this show is that even though it’s a kids show, they’re trusting their young audience to be capable of understanding the plot. It was a giant gamble for the time, and boy did it pay off.
