I came here after stumbling on Steve Huff's review of these. And they sound right up my street. He's driving them happily with a 25w class A amp. I have a valve amp which can run at 30w class A or 60w A/B. I much prefer the A sound. I have a medium sized (16x18ft) living room and am currently listening to Buchardt S300s, which I enjoy a lot. However I'd expect these to be next level, while only losing a smidgeon on low bass extension. Am so tempted! God, I hate KZbin and rum invoked hi-fi purchases...

As a Contour 20 owner (non-i), I am curious how they sound versus the Heritage. I have compared the Contour 20 vs. 20i and heard minimal differences to my ears. I am very pleased with the original Contour 20: slightly warm emphasized mid-range, smooth but not harsh high-range, beautifully rolled-off, smooth bass. I compared 20 to the Special 40 extensively as well and have no doubts about taking home the Contour 20. Confidence 20 is out of my price range. Would love more Heritage versus Contour 20 comparisons.

Wood, if your going to make that jump to light speed, and make an upgrade I would jump "balls" in with the Confidence 20. ;) I did and never looked back.... The Heritage is a side step slightly backwards in design for me..

Sometimes I think the heritage has like a veil or a muffled sound. I use a Hegel H390 with its internal dac. I had the SP40's and remember them being livelier on the top end.

Great review! I’ve had my Contour S1.4s for a long time now, about 15 years and still love em. Had them hooked up to a Moon 340i. Would these be a big gain or would Contour 20is be enough of a gain?

Of course Heritage Special dude. HS is more than twice the price of Special 40 (3K vs 7K USD). In another video by this same host, he gives SP 40 a 7.5 points but HS 12 points. I would strongly agree as I have one myself and is in process of getting the second HS pair. Tremendous value!

Agree should play some music for comparison in future suggest Clannad Banba ,Some Led Zepplin Your choice, And Some NightWish Ghost Score from Decades Album WOW they are an Incredible Sounding Speaker I have a Vintage McIntosh Integrated Tube Amp mated to Bowers and Wilkins 805 Ds also have a totally appropriately Refurbished Kenwood 9600 Reciever with LEDS (which was done right with appropriate original blue hue on the Vellum Tuner dial) fully recapped with upgrades to capacitors mated to Infinity Column 2s Thank you for sharing Great Music Pics , You will love Clannad!!! NightWish is Special too!!!

Thanks mate really appreciate your feedback. I am using Chord Epic X (not the higher XL) in my system. Perhaps need to get some on loan to see if getting higher model cables will make enough of a difference to justify the extra money.

Hey thanks for the video. I also run the Hegel H590 and I think I just sealed the deal on a pair of these HS. I just literally unboxed some Special Forty’s but I’m gonna sell them half burnt in 😂. I also don’t know where that buddy is getting a Black Friday deal on these but I had to basically beg, like literally beg the dealer to sell me his only allocation.

One dealer was offering me $2500 for the SP 40 (one year old, hardly used) and for 500 for stand for it but with 25% commission it becomes $2250 from my purchase price of $3000. I was tempted for a day, but then I thought to myself: where can I get the SP 40 with stand for $2250? After that thought I decided to keep it lol.

@@bh2143 Yeah I kept both. Sadly the SP40 have about 60 hours on them and are just sitting beside the HS on stands. I will either find another room for them or another owner if I can’t.

@@KidCatypus I don't do HT at the moment but I have seen people using 3K speaker pair as part of their 5.1 HT set. BTW I just offload the ELAC 403 and a 1K Yamaha a-s 801 amp to my wife in the kitchen, 3.5 K off my book, lol. I could have been Special 40, but it does need better amp than the Yamaha 801 to sound good. This KZbin host confirms great value in SP 40 so I don't feel so bad/sad as I know there is always a room in my house that can use its service. Cheers!

The Heritage looks like the Contour 1.3II or 1.3SE.... Although not sure if they are worth 7K in the US, kind of steep price tag! 40 in Grey Oak is definitely better looking out of the two... If you have old school decor then the Heritage might fit the bill!

This isn’t for the miser wallet people. When you have the best tweeter and best mid woofer, the super high end components in the crossover are super dooper . There just isn’t anything wanting in this speaker. It doesn’t fit everyone’s needs, but I’ll take one pair and call myself satisfied. You can disagree and to that I say find what makes you happy. That is what this hobby is about, finding what suits us as individuals.

It was perfectly translated. It’s a KZbin video, the sounds isn’t meant to be of the same quality of the original speaker, you’d have to be a bit silly to assume it is. This video is informative, well presented to the potential client and is a display of the speaker and its potential. You said that “none would sell based on the sound of this video” yet we were among the highest seller of these speakers and rightfully so. Nobody put the effort in that we did with Heritage Special. Out of the thousand positive things you could say, you chose to complain about the sound of a video that was never intended as a studio recording, well done.
