I really enjoyed this tutorial. I've been working with pastels, but have wanted to work larger in acrylics. I really like your style and I'm thinking of joining your Patreon page. Are your tutorials in real time or are they time lapsed like many are here? Thank you for putting the time into these tutorials.

Hi, thanks for the tutorial, it all makes sense. However, when I tried it for myself, when painting the lighter layers I find that I can’t get fine hairs without adding water. But then this makes it too translucent and it doesn’t cover the darker stripes for example. If I load up my brush with lots of paint then the lines are to thick. How do I get the balance right to ensure that my lighter layers actually show up against the layers below? I have used the paint mixes that you have described, I just can’t get it to work. Can you offer any advice? Thanks
@StudioWildlife
@StudioWildlife 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jackie, what paints are you using? it might be that they aren’t pigmented enough for the lighter layers. I only dip my brush tip slightly in the water to thin out the paint. It becomes an almost syrupy texture rather than completely liquid. It’s difficult to describe its best to experiment and see what works best for you. if you are struggling getting the balance right with water you can buy acrylic flow extender mediums that will thin out the paint but they don’t make it as translucent as just using water. Also for the final layers what brush are you using? I recommend a liner brush, a rigger brush or a dagger brush because they let you load lots of paint but still have a fine line if used carefully. Hope that helps! Good luck 😁

@jackiefearn4195 2 жыл бұрын
@@StudioWildlife thanks for your reply. I have System 3 and Windsor & Newton acrylics so the pigment should be ok? I’ll get some flow improver and keep experimenting, hopefully I’ll get the mix right. 🤗
