That flange and drain set up looks so much cleaner than what was installed in my 2016 build. You wouldn’t believe how much this affects your shower pan drainage over time. Between personal hygiene and regular cleanings, an improper or lackadaisical drain install will wreck havoc over time-an no one wants the Grand Canyon to emerge from underneath their feet-especially one that may contain moldy hair and debris!… In case you hadn’t heard it as of late, thank y’all for sharing your work, tips, and tricks- and for demonstrating decency, proficiency, professionalism, and basic humanitarianism. Complacency tends to breed faster than competency and is a great disservice to craftsmanship-amongst so many other things. Thank you 🙏 Stay blessed

You're a man of my own heart taking that extra bit of time to do stuff properly and we clearly share a love of pocket hole screws! The Halo retrofit cans are great - so are the Utilitech canless. The selectable color temperature is a real game change for LED fixtures, too - softer 2700K or 3000K in bedrooms, 3500K to 4000K for baths and kitchens, and 5000K for work areas. I installed some recently in a remodel and LOVE the canless LEDs. I personally like to put two 3 or 4 inch lights in showers, depending on the size (two 3" in a smaller shower like this one), to help minimize shadows from just having one single light.

We did a bathroom remodel two years ago. After removing the two toilets I stuffed newspaper down the cast iron pipe. In the middle of the night I heard a scratching sound. Sure enough, a sewer rat was trying to gain access to the house. I put a 2 x 8 bit of scrap with a sledge hammer on top to keep the little bugger at bay. The next day I got two expansion plugs in place. The internal pipe cutter is great, thanks.

Thx Emmet. I did a bathroom remodel once and stuffed an old hand towel in the toilet drain. When we removed the towel weeks later to install the toilet it had been well chewed upon 😳

I’ve installed some led retrofit can lights from Costco but they are not completely flush with the ceiling. The old can lights seemed to be painted or siliconed to the ceiling (I had to cut around the rim of the housing to get it off cleanly). Do you recommend adding some caulk to the rim of the lights to get the lights adhered to the ceiling/flush? I’m also wondering if it’s okay to have a slight gap if these are installed in a bathroom.
@StudPack3 жыл бұрын
I’m not a fan of caulking the trim ring to the ceiling but can see where it would be beneficial in some cases. Regarding the gap, depends on how much. Anything larger than 1/16” I’d try to correct

Interesting that the new outlet you put in there fixes to the *outside* of the floor drain, that just seems so backwards, especially when the floor drain now has divots in it from the drilling. I would still be worried about that not being a great connection.

Was it a conscious decision to not make the shower handicap accessible? To make the curb lower and using a shower door with a good bottom seal would minimize that hurdle. A good friend after building a dream home broke his back and wound up starting over due to so many areas that needed extensive changes. The comprises in a design may be worth it in the long picture.
