I hope you enjoy the concepts from this book as much as I did. It's changed the way I think about reading, learning, and building knowledge over time.

I am have just retired from a very large clinic I started, FastBraiin; and I am now going on line for those with ADHD and a quick, creative brain. This type of note taking fits right in and I will use it and will refer to your video. Thanks, Dr Jim

I really like your book reviews. I'm thinking about adding some book reviews on my own KZbin channel to complement some of my other content. Do you have any recommendations on how to make a good book review video (i.e. any patterns / questions you use to make a video like this? How do you get from reading to notes to video?)? You seem to have the formula dialed in so curious what your advice would be to another creator. :)

Glad you enjoy the reviews! I don't think my approach is very efficient as far as time goes, but it works for me and I enjoy spending more time with the content. The rough process is (1) listen to audiobooks to identify interesting ones to revisit, (2) re-read the ones I want to summarize using a digital copy to make extensive highlights, (3) migrate those highlights to a Google Doc for future reference... which I do manually as a way to also review the content again, (4) read through and bold the highlights that stand out most or relate to key themes, and (5) identify 3-4 key insights that provide a solid preview of the core concepts. More recently I also started following Donald Miller's advice to begin each video with the "problem" that is being solved. So, I try to determine what it is that the book addresses and then cover that in the first minute or so.

Note: I believe your other comment (that I received via email notification) got blocked by YT due to the links that were included. Not sure why, but I can't seem to manually find and restore it. Sorry about that, but thank you for sending the links! I had seen one of the "Linking Your Thinking" videos, which is what convinced me to go with Obsidian over Roam Research.

I'm curious to see if there is any mention of mind mapping or speed reading
@RickKettner3 жыл бұрын
I think the bi-direction linking method covered here (insight #3) is likely superior to mind mapping in that it's easier to create and maintain diverse connections across all kinds of ideas and knowledge.

But how do You save Big text like a step by step Guide to sacale up
@RickKettner3 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the book, but often you can briefly map out the key steps for future reference. For example, with a book like The Start-Up J Curve, you might make a note about the process by very briefly describing each stage in a sentence or two (Create, Release, Morph, Model, Scale, and Harvest). If you choose to go further, you could create a single note on each stage, but it depends on how you plan to use your slipbox in the future. Personally, I'm trying to focus on individual insights, mental models, or other things that can be transferred to a range of scenarios. For recalling the wisdom of a comprehensive book, I think it may make more sense to just craft a summary for future reference.

Why does this book has two types of a book cover - one is that you are showing in the video and the other one is with a blue cover.
@zahrahajja99143 ай бұрын
The colorful one is the 1st addition and the blue cover is the 2nd addition which is the most updated - I hope this helps
