Great content, really informative and helpful to me in setting my expectations. Question: How heavily do/did these points effect you or stop you from enjoying you college life and going out with friends and doing dumb stuff?

First of all thanks for the deep insights into Hong Kong. It seems the pros and cons are pretty equal. I am a 12th-grade student and wanna apply for Bachelors in the next year. I've shortlisted some countries and Hong Kong is one of them. But I'm still confused about it. So, if I get good scholarships only then I am gonna fully commit to HK. Any pro tips, sir?
@thihachi2 жыл бұрын
What do you want to study? If your degree is related to finance industry, I think HK is a good destination. If you wanna do research, HK is great too. Question is, do you think you'll be staying in HK to work after graduating? If so, it's perfect if you study something finance. Will you study masters elsewhere right after your bachelors? then any major would do, HK is a great stepping stone for that.

Are there any other possibilities like student co loving or student apartments? If so, where can I find them? Thank you for your videos! :)
@thihachi3 жыл бұрын
Hey yeah! Thanks so much! Living in halls is more of an experience than a convenience. Lots of memories are made. But you can def live outside as well. You can search online for outside accommodations and you can also ask your uni. They will refer you to websites and alumnis who live outside!
@villwillview5642 жыл бұрын
I’ve been following ur content for a while and u r one of my inspirations to apply for hk unis. I now received conditional offers from cuhk and hkust business school. What are your thoughts on business in these unis? What are some pros and cons? And why you chose CUHK at that time? Looking forward to ur reply!
@thihachi2 жыл бұрын
As to my knowledge, for business hkust is the most famous here. Im at cuhk and if you ask me whether I would've gone to hkust if I had the chance, my answer is no. I got accepted to hku too but I chose cuhk cuz of the campus and the warmth I felt after talking to the students and officers here. But what business majors did you get accepted to? that also matters. if you talk about graduate job opportunities, it's the same for these unis.

honestly they are very different... are you into computers softwares and money? go for fintech. Or are you into reporting, frameworks, ethics and corporate governance? go for accounting. Do more research!

How hard is the study in Hong Kong ? Exams, projects.
@thihachi3 жыл бұрын
Hey... I should make a vid about this. It actually depends from one course to another. But I'd say the they're challenging a lot of the times. And the competition makes it harder. Especially with math-based courses, you are competing with Chinese students who are known to be great at maths and works super hard. So even if the course is very easy, the competition makes it hard when the grades are curved, i.e. relative grades.

Hey how is the Bsc in economics program in CUHK in terms of employment opportunities and future prospects?
@thihachi2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I think economics is nice. First ask yourself why you want to study that though? Cuz of a particular job prospect? or just because you like the subject? Economics is good if you want to do research and all. You can do academic research or even research at consulting firms. But then again, you are goin to be in hong kong so a lot of opportunities will be within banking and finance. Econ students are generally sought after by big firms in finance too. You can also choose a specialisation when studying econ, and your job prospects might change depending on that as well. When compared with finance students, you might have an edge in doing market research, especially when it comes to market behaviour and policies. There are so many moving parts to your question. Ask yourself first, why you want to study economics. One thing for sure is, no matter how much you like the subject now, you are going to face difficulties and stress when majoring in that subject!

Great video, congrats! I might go to CUHK next year as an exchange student and this information is really helpful to me. The main drawback that I find is the language, as I would like to land an internship and many employers require proficiency in Mandarin/Cantonese... Have you learnt Chinese?
@thihachi3 жыл бұрын
It's hard for me to give my time for Chinese so I haven't picked up yet, even though I hope I did. It's a hard reality that it'll be inconvenient for you to communicate with the colleagues, most of whom are local. But if you got the skills, can bond in with the culture well, and can give your unique insights, it won't be a problem!

which university is the best for accounting in hk???
@SW-fy8pq Жыл бұрын
i think the students from north America have great advantage to get accepted by uni in HK because north American high school education is way way way easier than the GCE A level, HK DSE, IBDP, China Gaokao, etc. Say if A level result is not top notch, can student use SAT to apply?
@SW-fy8pq Жыл бұрын
The answer is a big fat 100% yes. The only thing you can't do is mix n match your qualifications, for example, AL + AP Calculus BC is not equal to AL + AL further maths. If your AL grades are not so great, you should do SAT + APs.

If your aim is to get into big tech, HK isn’t the best though it’s gonna help u a lot. But if u wanna work in startups like FinTech or just traditional banks, HK is great! Bare in mind that in HK, you will find most opportunities in finance industry… most of my CS friends are in finance too! Hope this helps! :)

uhh 4th year CUHK CS major here, so ill talk about my side It really depends. In terms of employment, I don't think not knowing cantonese is a huge problem if you're trynna find good jobs here. I wouldn't say graduates in general are very technically competent, so getting a job isn't too difficult. Most of my classmates ended up joining HFT/Hedge Funds/ Investment Banks as Technology analysts after they graduated, commanding salaries well over 30k a month. But I will say that when it comes to academics, don't expect your university to give a shit about you, or make any arrangements if you're an international student. The courses are usually kind of shit (some profs are great, god bless Chuck Jee and Anthony So), but most of the time it really is just profs reading off of slides. I've taken most of the courses I need to graduate and I still don't know some things like design patterns, which are pretty important to know if you plan on heading into software engineering. Of course if you want to get into research, and plan on digging your head under the books and study 24/7, HKs a great place for you, especially because all profs take in research assistants. But just understand that it is pretty difficult to compete for higher GPAs in CUHK/HKU/HKUST. If I'm being honest, diligence only gets you so far, most people end up taking courses to graduate with good GPAs, because like I said, he competitions horrible here
