Thank you Esther. I passed gd 5 violin after 20 months of lessons as an adult beginner. It was a tough call: about 2000 hours of practising, and setting impossible targets. The next grade will be more relaxed! My point is, if you are motivated you can do a lot, and I also spent a lot of time watching video tutorials, and watching pros playing - very helpful!

Esther, I wanted to let you know what an inspiration you & this video have been to me! I am a 46-year-old classically-trained violin teacher who has mostly been pursuing fiddle & folk music since becoming an adult. One of my students has gotten so advanced I had to review some of my old pieces for teaching, & I realized my classical chops had diminished, plus I rarely practised anymore unless I was working on something new for performance. So I've been watching your videos for inspiration! Seeing how you practise has lit a fire under me, & I've been practising daily in a focused way since then. It's like I've fallen in love with my violin & the music I was raised on! I also am excited to try the leatherwood rosin you recommend. I'd love to see more practise videos (they are amazing) & to see you play the Summer Vivaldi. Also, I found the music stand you are using, which I'd love to purchase myself. If you ever read this, I am curious what is the wood & stain on it. In any case, many blessings to you on all you do & become! ~ Kristalyn Pac

One thing I like to do with technique is take phrases from certain pieces that I have trouble clarifying, so that way I improve both on that phrase and on my fingers’ long-term nimbleness and strength. The Bach Double Concerto has a bunch in the 3rd Movement.

Very good that you show your practice! Your violin sounds awesome! One advice on the Schradieck exercises: Keep the fingers close to the string. It makes it much more effective and an good warmup for quickness and a good handframe. Lifting the fingers should be quick and agile, but not too big of an movement. Especially the third and fourth finger always go very high if we don't keep an close eye on them!
@federicoemirricci8142
@federicoemirricci8142 6 жыл бұрын
Simon Streuff Violin-Education going higher with fingers will allow the player to strike the note clearer and with more security, and it is really useful for pieces which tempo is not really fast
@estherabrami
@estherabrami 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment, will definitely keep it in mind! The way I practise Schradieck is with 3 different 'touch' in the left hand: 1. as you said close to the string, with a lot of spring in the fingers 2. very slow and sensitive articulation 3. Exaggerated articulation, with a bouncy feel as each finger lifts up. I was practising the 3d one in that video :)

You make me think of myself when I was not working a long long time ago practicing for several hours, it really paid off for I got to enter one of the best orchestra in my country, but I left a long time ago and I was in Suzuki 4 almost reaching for book 5 then for some reasons I stopped but I REALLY regret it ! I see you have a Mac - do you still have that same Mac or do you also have a Windows laptop? Or maybe you have a virtual machine on it to run Windows 10 or 11 ? Or have it configured in dual boot with Windows as one option ? I would like to offer you a Windows laptop so you can run dogwaffle and add PD Howler to your repertoire of skills. A visual getaway is at times a welcome addition to the musical explorations.

I love your sound, very clean and pleasant to hear, but when you practice with a metronome you should strike the note more accurately and better divide the tempo. An advice: change the beats of the metronome as fast as the quavers or the semi quavers (basically the fastests notes on the score) and play does with the metronome. You know you achieved accuracy when you can't hear the metronome, the two sounds are so precise that you can't distinguish them. And if you think I'm just trying to bother you please hear your video when you are playing with the metronome (with lower speed, 0.5x).
