The second point about inconsistency is actually studied in animals and people building on Pavlov. Intermittent reinforcement. I trained dogs before realizing these patterns from my childhood so when I heard that I was shocked and sick. So.. Originally studied in rats. Rats+trained to press a lever+food pellet If the rats pressed a lever and received a food pellet everytime, they would eat for a while and stop. If they pressed and never received a pellet, they would press it a few times and stop. If there was a predictable interval (pellet every 5 lever pushes), they would eat for a while and stop. However, If there was no discernable/predictable pattern, the rats would become obsessed with pressing the lever and begin neglecting their other needs like hygiene and mating. EVEN when the pellets completely stopped coming. This is how gambling addictions work. This is absolutely the easiest and quickest way to train a dog. .. or child or partner or customer...

"A lot of people really only kind of exist on this surface level with themselves and their own thoughts and their own desires" -- the level of thinking, "The things that I want bring me pleasure, bring me comfort, so if I crave them, if I want them, they must be good for me because I want them, so I am going to pursue them" -- that is true, and it's true that it makes people vulnerable, especially when they are unwilling to think critically about their goals and values. That is one of the things you said earlier in the video that stood out for me (existing on a surface level of unthinking craving), and also what you said about people who were not conditioned in a certain way, being shocked by the things in abusive relationships that others are having conditioned positive reactions to.

Well articulated and insightful. Hopefully those who are in that position will start to understand that the other person’s need to control by any means and essentially steal your joy whilst selflessly making everything about them; is indicative of how shallow and small of individual these people actually are The Pavlovian analogy is a brilliant example of how these dynamics work. Your kind heart is their weapon they use against you. It’ll never be reciprocated, for the simple fact and reason that…They don’t actually give a shit about you. Their main priority is themselves and you are just a means to an end that they desire. Keep those thoughts and contemplations flowing my dear…These things are valuable epiphanies.

Please keep them coming (in your pace of course). I honestly don't care about them being concise. I literally spend most of my listening time nodding my head at your theories. I was familiar with classical conditioning due to my university studies and this connection you explained in this video makes total sense. The concepts on your KZbin have been in the last weeks a solid aid to my process. One the most interesting thing is the topics you pick. Never the "usual stuff", that's what I like: you do a very unique research. Thank you.

Thank you for the very interesting video. I suppose going against one's conditioning is a bit like breaking a very strongly engrained habit that has a strong emotional element. I was surprised to read that bulimics find it very difficult to stop their thinking and their behavior with regard to their bulimia, and that they actually feel very good right after vomiting up their food, which is a very dangerous habit that could have lethal consequences, due to the effect it has on the esophagus: esophageal stricture, loss of elasticity, the danger of a tear ("rupture"), and the danger of cancer. Feeling so good after doing something so unpleasant, and fear of what would happen if they don't do it is of course part of the reason why they find it so difficult to stop. They're afraid they won't be valued, loved and safe, and in the process of trying to avoid that, they risk destroying themselves. They feel they have to do something about their appearance to deserve being as valued, loved and secure as they could possibly be. PS. In case someone might be interested in the aspect of bulimia, I add this: In people who have Type A blood the danger of esophageal stricture, loss of elasticity due to scar tissue and the danger of a tear and the development of cancer are heightened, because their bodies are over-sensitive to Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF), which makes them more prone to cancer and also results in an exaggerated wound healing reaction and the excessive formation of scar tissue. Abdominal surgery could for example cause worse adhesions than those in people of other blood groups. Testosterone exacerbates this tendency (it boosts the overgrowth), so bulimic Type A men would develop esophageal stricture (which is very difficult to treat), much more quickly, and they would also be at much higher risk of getting esophageal cancer. In my layperson's view it's not such a good idea for Type A men to get a vasectomy, since they are probably at higher risk of developing erectile dysfunction due to the inflammation and epididymitis that often occur after a vasectomy. I would encourage people to do a lot of research on the Internet before undergoing such a procedure, especially of what is written in the professional literature on complications of vasectomy. Type A men are also at higher risk of becoming impotent due to damage caused by venereal disease. This kind of thing should be common knowledge. I found out about Type As' over-sensitivity to EGF in naturopath Dr. Peter d'Adamo's book *Live right for your type* . PPS. The same kind of thing happens in the case of atherosclerosis and deterioration of heart function due to irreversible stiffening and hardening of heart tissue, caused by inflammation from repeated use of cocaine -- it will be worse and happen faster in Type A men, especially when they also smoke tobacco (irritation caused by toxic chemicals in the blood stream) and eat a lot of pro-inflammatory foods.

Hi Ehren, I've just found your channel and I've binged a few videos in a row now. Yours is a very eye-opening perspective to me. It's like there's a missing link here for me. My abuse 'signals' were installed since I was a toddler. Can we be thrown back into child states that we can't access from any rational, adult cognitive state? Are we, in fact triggered into being the helpless child? Is this the whole point why abusers do it? You are very self aware about this whole dynamic. Can we ever get a clear awareness if the trigger puts us in a 'toddler' state. So many questions. Thank you for stirring these questions.
