As always richer sections of the society remain unaffected and poors as well as those middle class people's who have never been a part of money laundering and other such corruption's had to pay heavy costs we cannot always expect such drastic measures to be successful in fact such a drastic measures always hit the economy and society badly. The Targetted group's remain unaffected However it's true that demonetization encouraged digital payment which inturn contributed to the digitalization of the economy but it has a lot of loop holes and according to me lack of serious implementation is the main reason behind its failure.

For all saying, it was successful bcs of digital economy. The main purpose of demonetisation was to curb black money which didn't happen. Also, even if demonetisation has not been happen, UPI would have been successfull. For example, Ola, Zomato and Amazon were successful bcs of technological advancements not bcs of demonetisation.

You have missed the point though... Since most people now are connected with bank accounts using digital means of pay , the cost of printing currency is well contained if you compare that too 10 years back cost to today's cost, considering inflation as well

It is a failure because the mental and physical health that people suffers just to exchange their own money not any politician suffers, many bank and post office employees lost their lives due to months of sleepless nights. After exchanging money, many people I know have their health deteriorate, so many businesses collapsed due to money shortage.

My father just yesterday told me about demonetisation which happened 4 decades ago in 1978. How at that time banks were not available nearer to all towns, they had to travel 100km+ to Ahmedabad and stand in line for few days to change the notes. People didn’t had car those time. My uncle drove bullet (bike) 6 times, each time having 3 more people, travelling 100km one way mostly on unpaved roads to drop family members and friends there so people can exchange money. Talk about hardship which happened in 2016 vs 1978.
