In Tripura, I have seen BSF patrolling Bangladesh border many days. It's really pathetic. Locals told me that BSF staff themselves carry smuggling goods if "suitable" amount is given.

Facts to be noted:- 1) Highest Voluntary Retirement Service among CAPFs is BSF:- Biggest reason; tough, challenging and over stressed duty hour. 2) Too many Vacancies not filling up timely (10k approx Vacancies in BSF). 3) Diverting BSF from primary role and task of guarding border to duty such as Election Duty and Law and Order Security duty, etc 4) Aging fencing and Culvert infrastructure at rainy and difficult terrain. Still many more points that can be put to improve security of border
