Sir, what was puritanism basically? What was their beliefs?

Puritans wanted to take Christianity back to its true roots. They were against the corrupting figures like Pop, church, and the kings. In thr 15th and 16th century, church was the hotbed of corruption and decadence of morality, it is evident in tales of friar, monk, pardoner, prioress in Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales. They rejected the authority of Church of England and said that man doesn't need a king in order to be closer to god. John Wycliff started the first Puritan Movement or Reformation Movement known as Lollard's Movement, because of this he is remembered as the Morning Star of Reformation.
