Well, the novel is not incomplete. Sai and Gyan never reconcile. Gyan decided he would meet Sai after finding her lost dog. But the dog was never found. so there is no chance of reconciliation. Biju came back to India. But the situation in the state was very hostile to the Gorkhas. so he didn't get any job. but Biju was able to meet his after 10 years that is more than enough. And about the new state. No Gorkhas are not granted Gorkhaland yet. The Novel was to depict the situation of Gorkhas in the 1980s. and it did it very well. Neither the Gorkhas who live in India nor those who left the country lived peacefully. The Bangalis and Lepchas who lived in conflict areas (here Kalimpong) suffered a lot too.
