You are a most fortunate man to live on a beautiful lake in Maine and be serenaded by the haunting cry of the loons. Great information and video Bob😊👍

Wowza! I get to see an occasional Loon at Wilson Lake Kansas! Absolutely love the Loons! I would gladly live where I could listen to these beautiful majestic birds day and night! This is an incredible and informative video! Much love and peace to you on your beautiful lake 💞

They get so used to people and boats. Sometimes, we just talk to each other by the dock. But they DO call all night!

I once was camping at Richter Pond in Groton State Park (VT); my campsite had its own put-in for my kayak. While I was out paddling on the pond, two young lions came flying over the gap between the pond and the larger Groton Lake; I presumed they were new to flying, because they were as boisterous as kids on a roller coaster! They flew around the shore of the pond until a long wait called them back. What a rare treat!

Fantastic video! The common loon is my absolute favorite bird and I'm so happy for anyone that gets to regularly see/hear them! I've lived in WA my entire life minus the last couple years and the week before moving from WA I decided to visit one of our mountain lakes for the last time. I've never seen a loon in-person before that day and God blessed me with a few loons on the lake that I've NEVER seen there - what an awesome parting memory of WA! I hope to live someplace with loons like this, thank you for the video 🤍

I’ve often wondered about the complex relationship between the eagle and loon. I once witnessed an adult eagle (on Little Pushaw) land amongst a group of loons, and then let himself drift back to the piece of land where his nest was. Bathing? Surprisingly, all of this occurred without the loons saying one word. On that day, there was a truce. That was such a great video!

I visit from Colorado to relatives in MN - where I have the pleasure of seeing and hearing loons. I'm addicted. Thanks so much for the info. I have a loon whistle and needed to be reminded of the distinctions in their calls.

Great video. I was surprised to see a juvenile Common Loon diving the surf off of Monterey in Central coastal of California. I thought they were more of a Northeast bird, but no they winter along the Pacific coast as well

Nice story! For me, it is annually great to see (usually hear one first) the arrival of that first loon sometime between Halloween and Thanksgiving along the MS Gulf Coast. They serenade late fall & all winter into early spring on quiet days as I kayak by at a distance.

Please trade your lead lures for non-lead to protect the loons. Loons are twice as big as an adult Mallard with an up to 46" wing span. That's my little 2 cents. :) I love loons. Thank you for the entertaining and informative video!

LOL. I chaired the Maine legislature's Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee when small lead sinkers were phased out. I'm not in the legislature now, and you're right, there is still more to be done.

I recently saw a juvenile Common Loon diving in and out of the surf off the coast of Monterey, California. That’s surprised me as I always assumed they were a northeast bird. But according to Audubon and Sibley, they are also found on the Pacific Coast.

The fun part is, they know who you are and they do communicate. They'll tell you what they want and don't want. They're lots of fun once you get to know them.

On our lake, on the Ontario-Québec limits, the battles of male loons usually take place at night and sound like a terrifying raucous cry of murderers that can last for hours. In the morning, it's all like nothing happened.
